In a spreadsheet, you have rows and columns. Imagine that you added a third dimension to the spreadsheet; what would you call the field variable of that third dimension?

"Slice".

This might be a weird question, but what would be a good starting point to get into the basics of car technology? For example I would like to know more detailed how a clutch works (other than "It's used for changing gears") or how a turbo improves the performance of a car, without going too deep into the vast details of automotive engineering and physics.

Might as well check Wikipedia, I suppose. There should be at least some useful information there.

Tier. File (though that conflicts with common usage elsewhere). I dunno. Interesting question, though!

HowStuffWorks?
How Turbochargers work
How clutches work

Break/Bend the PATA/SATA pins/slots and it you have a torx screwdriver open up the drive. You can also beat the shit out of the drive with a hammer or anything else that is heavy enough.

Thanks!

Also, another question. I work in a security gatehouse that looks after a condominium. We finally got internet in there which was installed by a third party. My supervisor said that it was monitored by the property manager of the building. They didn't give us any guidelines on what we could do on there, so I just browsed GAF on the day we got it.

My question is about the monitoring. How does that work exactly? Is it real time? As in the manager has to actively log into her computer to see what we are doing? Does it make a log of things done on the computer? Where you browsed? Can she see what I looked at in my e-mail? How does it work exactly? I work the graveyard shift (11pm-7am) so there would be no one actively monitoring me. But I am wondering.

Thanks guys.

It depends on the network and where it's being logged and with what. It my be logged on the computer you use, at the router across the room, or further away. It may be logged and logs batched and sent to someone once a day, or they may be savvy enough to SSH in and check them in realtime. There's no set answer to your question.

Ok, but what would it show? That I went to gmail? Or would it show the contents that I was looking at in my gmail? Nothing sinister in there. Just that I don't want anyone looking.

But lets say absolute basic when they say monitoring. Whats the least amount of "monitoring"? That it will just record the website www.neogaf.com/forum/blahblahblah ?

Can they see that I went to Neogaf and wrote a reply to someone? Would they be able to read the reply?

Okay, still job hunting, and everyone is seriously telling me to network, network, network. Question is: how the hell do I do that? I really don't know many people.

I'm hearing conflicting things about LinkedIn, should I go for a premium account so I can talk to recruiters?

Any help here? I got rejected by one recruiter who thinks I don't have enough experience, and I'm in need of some direction here before I just give up.

Is this threadworthy?

By networking they mean that you should meet and talk to more people in your field or just people in general. Look it goes like this, if you meet someone and befriend them there's a possibility that they know someone who may have a job position available for you and tell you about it. For instance say that i am a Computer Technician. I meet some dude and he's pretty cool so i befriend him. I tell him that i'm a computer technician and maybe when another of his friends needs their computers repaired they will say "oh shit, i know a computer technician let me give you his info"

TL;DR: Make friends with random people.

So, would a LinkedIn premium membership be a good investment?

This has been bugging me for a bit: In 8th grade, I read these books in class. But now I can't remember what they were called. I'm a bit fuzzy on the details, but it was a sort of trilogy. I remember in one of the books, the big plot was a kid had shot himself with a shotgun, in another it was about another kid (one of the friends of the suicide kid) but was about his childhood growing up in a broken home, and the third book, I think, was basically the new coach or whatever had raped and murdered several girls in another town and was gonna start doing it in this town and the main character of this story got involved with him but I think actually killed him.

I ordered a book from Amazon recently and when I got it it was a bit damaged. I decided to return it, and I just got an email that my refund had been processed, and that all the credit I used to purchase it had been added to my account. But I just mailed it out today. Is that how Amazon does things now? It's been a while since I returned something, but I don't remember ever getting a refund before they had actually received the item before.

It's the same in Germany. If you chose to get a replacement they also often send it immediately out. One of the reasons Amazon has a comparatively low income as opposed to their big revenue.

I've seen a few seasons of 24 on DVD, now I want to pick up where I left off on Netflix, but I can't remember which season I finished with. So which season was it that ended with Jack Bauer
being held prisoner on a cargo ship headed for China?

That is the end of Season 5.

This is kind of bugging me: I remember reading something a few years ago about the soil in Washington State being the cause of some disease or condition, but I can't seem to find anything about it now. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

If MLG and competitive gaming in general is officially considered as a sport, will EA Sports make a game out of it?

"Street Fighter the game the movie the game"

Why are Virgin Mobile's pre-paid cell phone plans much, much cheaper than anyone else's? These plans are too good to be true, there must be a catch. Like bad coverage or something.

So I'm playing and now listening to the songs from Sound Shapes, and the Beck stuff on there is awesome.

Examples:

Beck-Spiral Staircase

Beck-Cities

My question is this, does any of his more recent work sound like these two songs? I haven't bought and album by Beck or really followed his music since Odelay, so I'm pretty out of the loop. Maybe this stuff from Sound Shapes isn't really close to anything he's done?

Edit: Love the game so far by the way, very cool. Haven't even started messing with the editor or anything yet.

Is there a site that lists random air fares for locations all over the country when you don't know specifically where you want to go? Like for example, I'm thinking of going somewhere on Memorial Day weekend - it doesn't matter where. I'd just be interested in going from where I live to anywhere cheap.

Also, any recommendations for what to do in Los Angeles for someone thats never been there?

Are there any copyright laws regarding references to other movies in movie scripts? Like if a character suggests a robbery and another says "So you want to be Brad Pitt in Ocean's Eleven?".

In addition to my normal (german) curriculum vitae I have to send in an english version too. Since I haven't written one in english so far, there are a few things I'm not totally sure about.

In the german version it is not common to include something about the job objective or personal profile. Is it true that you have to mention the job you're applying to, the goals you want to achieve and what kind of skills you have (in addition to other skills like language, computer skills etc.)? They already have my german covering letter in which I have included all those things.

I really hope someone can help me :)

Edit: to be on the safe side I'm just going to add this part about the personal profile. The job I'm applying to is already mentioned on the cover, so I think I won't write about the job objective.

How come my Windows 8 desktop is super noisy? It's designed to be quiet so I can concentrate building websites and databases but even though I only have Chrome open its really loud. The case it's in is also huge so that it have more breathing inside. =/
