Gaming with your S/O

How many of you guys do it and how good is your S/O at gaming? I just got my girlfriend into FPS when I picked up Black Ops 2 and me and her have played probably 5 days worth of MP game play together. The sad thing is that she does better than me a lot of the time. Came back from a .34 K/D in Team Death Match to a 1.01. The only other games she played before was The Sims games and Plants vs Zombies which in PvZ she had sunk 200 hours into it I think it was..

I watched my girlfriend play Resident Evil 4 yesterday. It hurt. I then took the controller and breezed through the section immediately after meeting the merchant. For some reason this turned her on.

Easter redeemed.

I only date good looking girls unfortunately, which means they aren't interested in games. I try not to play games when they are around in order to keep their perception of me as godly as possible.

The student has surpassed the master!

I had the same thing with Puzzle Quest, we shared the PSP and I dumped quite a few hours into it and she was better. We did pretty even with DQIX, she's a grinder at heart, loves RPG's and just collecting things.

Right now we both have 3DS XL's with Monster Hunter 3U. It's been a blast playing side by side with her (fiance, been together 5 years as of 3 days ago).

I really wish she would have gotten into WoW as it would have been a lot of fun for 'adventuring' which she loves to do in games, but maybe it's a good thing.

I will say, watching her slam the 3DS closed and yelling "Fuck that fucking peco piece of shit!" was pretty amusing. I didn't mean to laugh but I let out a giggle and she's like "You do the same thing, damnit!". She's such a proper thing it was just funny. Never cusses, drives the speed limit, nothing really angers her.

Monster Hunter, it's bliss at one moment and infuriating the next.

But going on MP quests is awesome. We hoped DQIX had a better MP than it did but I think MH is what we were looking for (this is our first outing). The problem is that the difficulty really ramps up.

There's not enough good co-op games out there that she can really get into with me. She's not into the overly violent stuff (games or otherwise) so that knocks out about 90% of co-op games.

Ha, nice try.

You must be such a nice person to be around with!

My girlfriend likes to watch me play Mario galaxy and Zelda. She loves to solve puzzles with me. She doesn't like playing but will sit with me for 3 hours at times just watching. I love it. She's my co-gamer that looks up walk troughs for me when things get tough haha.

Quite the generalization you've made....though admittedly there might be a little truth in it.

LOL. You must be kidding.
Why is it sad if she does better than you?
Because I have been playing FPS a lot longer and she did absolutely horrible when she started playing. If you're trying to turn this sexist, you're foolish.

Mine enjoys the puzzle games aswell. I don't think she'd be into Zelda but I know she loves playing Mario. She bought 3d Mario for my 3DS and loved it.

Pretty much the same for me. We never play anything together, she plays on the DS most of the time (Starfy, Princess Peach and New Super Mario Bros are her favourites), but she enjoys watching me play God of War, Lollipop Chainsaw or Dark Souls.

Oh my god, can we have a easy going thread without the "omg it's sexist" theme? :( She was new to the game and ended up better as him, it's no different as he had taught his father, mother or anyone else.

My wife will go to the occasional gaming event but she isn't a big fan of games except things like the sims.

Best player in our airsoft group though!

We play Mario games, Plants vs Zombies, board-game video games, even Call of Duty (well... I play.. she fumbles around and gets killed). On her own she plays turn-based RPGs like Dragon Quest VIII, Blue Dragon, Lunar etc and lots of cartoony action games like Sly Cooper. And yeah... I won't get into her insane Animal Crossing addiction.

My fiancée and I share a Steam account. She likes to play strategy games (turn-based and real time), simulations, adventure games, and RPGs. Those are all intersecting interests for us. I also like more action-oriented games that she can't get into.

Sometimes she watches me play games like The Walking Dead.

I got her into the SMT games also.

my fiancee and I played Diablo III together all the way up until inferno when we quit. We've both also put over 100 hours into Guild Wars 2 together, as well as a bit of Borderlands.

And how is that a bad thing?

Again how is that sad? Shouldn't that be awesome?
You're trying too hard. He's saying it's sad for him. If I was trying to pass a level in super mario bros and a kid who has never played the game before finished it with no problem, I would say the same thing.

My girlfriend couldn't beat the last boss of Metroid Prime. I never had played it before, but I did after a few tries.

Got a reward for it.

Totally not the reason I think Metroid Prime has one of the best final boss fights ever.

My gf wasnt interested in games at all until some months (except some iOS gaming maybe). But recently she finished The Walking Dead on PC and I really liked watching her play. Feels good! She started playing some SNES classics again (Super Mario etc). Furthermore she even asked to play some FIFA. All in all, I think it's nice that she got some more interests in games.

My boyfriend and I don't get along when we play games together.

Tales games together? He free-runs all the time and doesn't help out with combos. It also doesn't help that I generally play on a higher difficulty than he would like.
Fighting games? We're both super-competitive. He button-mashes in games he's not familiar with (and combos when he does know the game) I try to combo and sometimes it's successful and sometimes it isn't.
Platformers? Depends. We had a rough hilarious ride with NSMB Wii with us throwing each other into pits. Actually, we're alright with Mario games. Platformers are alright.
I can't play first-person shooters with him because they make me nauseous.
Dumbass trivia / minigame / nonsense games? We get a laugh out of the absurdity even though the games may not be that great.

We're better off watching each other play games, to be honest. Or taking time to ourselves and playing on our own (ex: he does it with God of War, hockey games/WWE stuff, shooters, and RPGs; I do it with RPGs, platformers, and action/adventure games).

Edit: I just can't fathom playing SP games with him and switching off after every mission/dungeon/level, though (outside of SMB3, which did that sort of thing decently). We play games far too differently from each other. He grinds in RPGs. I don't. He likes to take his sweet time in platformers. I like going fast. He likes button-mashing in fighters; I don't. He likes free-running in Tales; I can't stand the mechanic. It's just somethin' you've gotta come to grips with. And those differences, even if they're irritating at times, are what makes things exciting.

Please tell me your girlfriend has logged over 100 hours n PvZ too.. I don't think my girlfriend would be interested in RPG's although she loves shit like LOTR and The Hobbit, she just likes simple and easy.

Quite the generalization you've made....though admittedly there might be a little truth in it.

Although I was joking, I'm willing to bet if we could correlate the amount of time each GAFfer spends playing games vs. the average attractiveness of their significant others....

well, I'd put my money on p < 0.05 and not in the happy direction.

I booted up Tales of Graces with my SO like two weeks ago.

I'm not a judgmental person. Hell, I love paying games with other people, especially Tales. It's one of the main attractions of the series to me.

But she would--not--stop--dying. Damn, there's a dodge offset button for a reason! If there's anything I hate more in a Tales game it's a person who can't do crowd control. Either attack, defend or support. I don't walk around with a sign on my neck saying 'We only have a fourth person at the 10 sec. interval. Naw, don't worry, I like three person parties!'

Other than that, gaming is awesome with her.

Until we get to platformers and I die...I suck at platformers...

My GF doesn't like many games. She likes trivia games like You Dont Know Jack, Buzz, and so on. She hates any games that take a modicum of coordinator and doesn't like moving in 3-dimensional worlds. She gets frustrated easily and if she dies she won't want to play again. I set her up with Walking Dead, but she hated how tense the first scene was and she said "I don't want to play this anymore" when the zombie ate her.

My S/O thinks he's better than me in Mario Kart. I just need a rematch.

Anyways, he's more into gaming than I am but we have similar tastes.

He does like to tease me because I try to skip most cutscenes. :( Otherwise gaming with him is fun.

I suffered with my bf through RE6 and it was a great time. We're playing Reach right now, I hate FPS's and I don't see any appeal in Halo but he seems to love the series so I'm doing this for him lol
He also helped me with some Dark souls :p

maybe she was bored of watching you played and thought a little fooling around would make you stop?

most fun game to play with a gf is sonic racing transformed. great fun. she played dirty though. she would literally strip and play naked against me. id be staring at her naked body while she would smile and casually overtake me in the race. id then put the game on pause for at least 3 minutes.

We've played Uncharted 2 and 3 online. Since we work in different states, we only see each other a few times every other week. Playing games together online fills those gaps. She's pretty good at it, and there are a few games she's into that we'll watch one another play, though most of the time we visit, we try to actually go out to the theater, to the park, Etc.

My gf claims she was at one time the highest rated druid on her server. I doubt this, but sadly we just don't have time to MMO anymore like we did before we met eachother

My g/f and I have two TVs in our living room so we can game together. We were playing crazy amounts of Borderlands 2 Co-Op (she is a mean Zer0) but have lately changed to Bioshock Infinite. One of us wears the headphone and the other uses the TV speakers so we don't bother each other too much.

I really enjoy it because we can talk about our theories about the games and keeping the TVs that close makes Co-Op infinitely more fun.

I bought that game for her and she loves it but we've only played it once due to my ignorance. Maybe I should pop it in and see what happens.

How does the two tvs look? Got a pic? I figure it'd be a bit distracting if beside each other.

I don't even... like this story is... I just don't know where to... oh well. I guess that's cool?

My wife and I play games pretty often. She loves Skylanders, Plants vs. Zombies, the Lego games, stuff like that.

She's a golden goddess at rock band / guitar hero. Definitely better than me, she got most of the 100% on expert songs that I couldn't. She's also amazing at Critter Cruch, she at one point was the #29 score on the PSN leader board, and this was a year or so after the game came out, so there were plenty of scores to beat. She also is at the last level of Dead Nation on undead. So she's pretty fucking good at games, but she hates games where she has to control the camera so FPS, third person shooters, stuff like that is mostly out.
