Metal Gear Solid V announced (PS360, open world)

Oh, really, then..
Different people?
0h2op58.png

Nope.

Could be.
Though Im not sure why he would refer to a nurse as "the woman"...

There has to be a gap of time between him waking up from the coma and him waking up with Ishmael. We dont know how long it is but Im assuming that "the woman" makes an appearance somewhere in there.
Woman is most likely the Raiden looking person on fire in the VGA trailer, the burning petals are in both scenes.

They look the same to me, just different lighting.

Well, yeah, but don't they look effectively different? Now imagine it with a 9 year difference, a new character model, glasses, and lipstick.

Ocelot wears lipstick? :p

Regarding your nurses from a few posts ago, I think theyre two completely different people. One is pre coma random nurse trying to save Big Boss life.
The other is post coma (9 years later) random nurse who is just doing her rounds when she stumbles onto a freshly awakened Big Boss.
At least thats how Im taking it.

Im not entirely sure how her being the same/different nurse makes a difference either...other than determining whether or not there is a time skip.

Regarding Ocelot, those 2 images of him are the same guy. Same character model, different lighting. Everything about them that I can see (right down to the jacket and scarf) are the same.
Ocelot only appears in the post-coma scenes from what we can tell so that character model already has the "9 years later" stuff applied to him.

Thank God. I LOVED the base building, and micromanagement of your soldiers and gear in PW. I hope they go further with it this time around. I'd love the weapon crafting to be much deeper, and outer-ops to be much deeper. I'd be ever better if you could take part in them as well.

I seem to remember hearing that Kojima said that this game will have a mobile component.

How cool would it be if when you're at work you can do the research and base building stuff and maybe even an Outer Ops Advance Wars type game on your phone or Vita and that would all sync with your console game?

That sounds awesome. In addition to smartphones and stuff, you could also do this on your Vita. So people with almost any kind of recent handheld device could do this stuff. Really great.

We saw how the lighting worked in the trailer making Boss look so much older in the dark.

that's what lighting does IRL.

It's like people can't forget that this is a videogame and try to analyze it using ancient videogames code.

He's wearing a scarf of a different color ? Not the same character !
The jacket looks the same ? Same character !
Hair looks white in harsh lighting ? He's old !

It's like some of you haven't been watching enough reality.

I think this is the woman Big Boss asks about. Ishmael says "We gave her a light.. she took the short way down" (I think so at least) which implies that she jumped out of a window due to being on fire.

I thought he said "life."

But wait...if he says "I- (pause) we gave her a light, she took the short way down."

Who is "we" and why did he mistakenly say I at first?

That hallucination theory, man. Or maybe Ishmael has an alter ego...?

Heard about that. Is it any good?

More inconsistent with some peoples version of the story
the data base isn't up to date anyway
back to the Solid theory, its my understanding that Solid Snake has always been physically older even before MGS4
Gray Fox comments on his appearance in MGS1, as does Liquid Ocelot in MGS2
I am kinda interested in what his physical appearance would be in the 80's, especially when he had such a large military background before joining Fox Hound, he was green berets in the late 80's which would mean he was very young, but was he physically?
btw I ain't thinking he is in TPP, just curious.

He would have been aging appropriately during the 80's. It's only during the tail end where his origin as a clone of old Big Boss would begin to show itself as rapid aging. As there hasn't been a real study on human subjects, it's probably important to mention that Kojima and co. are attempting to extrapolate a small sample size of non-human cloning to the human aging process. The key thing to remember is that human DNA changes as part of the aging process; so that if you were to compare a blood sample of an infant to a sample of the same person after a century of life, you would find changes (when people use DNA for identification/parental reasons they only test a small selection of markers not the entirety of the profile.) The problem that Solid Snake suffers from is that they DNA they used from Big Boss (his father [Naked Snake » Protagonist of MGS3 and upcoming MGSGZ/TTP]) was from when Big Boss was already getting old. So while Solid Snake was born as a 'young child' unlike normal children, he had from his earliest days, the DNA of a 30-40 year old man not a young child. That's the reason whey in MGS4, Solid Snake had prematurely aged into an old man. If instead, Solid Snake was cloned from a sample of Big Boss as an infant; Solid Snake would have a more normalized aging process and his own aging timeline would be in sync with the aging timeline of his DNA.

In terms of the three Snake brothers. Solid and Liquid are not identical twins. Have you ever seen the movie Twins with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Devito? Solid is Schwarzenegger's character, that is the 'perfect' version of Big Boss and Liquid is Devito's ' the byproducts' of creating the 'perfect' copy. Solidus (the antagonist of MGS2) is the elder brother and the only perfect clone of Naked Snake (Big Boss). This is why Solidus was able to act as a perfect donor for the organs and other body parts to help rebuild Big Boss.

I wonder what the chances are that Kojima uses the Dualshock 4 speakers for codec conversations, I think that would be cool.

No I think it would be retarded. I want voice coming out of my center speaker with full clarity so I can understand what is being said, instead of some dumb radio gimmick thing with sound coming out of the controller I'm holding in my hands which is usually positioned near my balls instead of my head while I'm playing. :P

When interrogating a held soldier, lift the DS4 to your face to hear his tips. Slide your finger across the touch pad to slit his throat. The DS4's light indicator then blinks from blue to red indicating you've killed the soldier.

Inexplicably holding the controller up to my head doesn't sound very promising. I'll feel like Raiden in Revengeance (i.e. 'shouldn't I have bluetooth or something by now?').

They should totally use the controller speaker for the codec beeper.

well we don't know how good the controller speaker is, we probably could get full clarity from it. and i'm talking about short codec messages, probably not long cutscene type ones. maybe just the short and optional ones.

I went to see the band Garbage in concert tonight, and I totally didn't realize that was them who did the song in the GDC trailer for MGS5 til I heard them perform that song live tonight, haha. Made me think of MGS5 right away, and watch that trailer when I got home again.

Sigh.

They say explicitly in MGS4 that Snake's accelerated aging was
intentionally engineered as a safeguard of some sort--similar to how all the Sons of Big Boss were engineered to be sterile. It's not a by-product of the cloning process--according to Naomi in MGS4, Snake was created to age quickly
.

Regarding your spoilered out comment...

Solid is not the 'perfect' version of Big Boss--Liquid is. Solid is the genetic leftovers. Ocelot says this explicitly during the MGS1 post credits phone call.

Come on now, man.

I really who the "over 100 years old" guy is (the head from the keynote). They didn't want to show the final look. Normally I would have guessed Zero in MGS4, but maybe it's another one. How old would Zero be in 1980-something?

I'm playing MGS3 right now and it says Zero was born in 1909. So, 70-80.

Also, what would be the point in making the clones sterile? How is that a fail safe? Wouldn't the Patriots want his genes to keep being passed on, giving them generation after generation of soldiers to work with? Or were they worried the clones would turn on them to begin with, and if they had kids, those kids would do the same? Aren't the Genome soldiers partly clones of Big Boss? Were they all sterile as well?

You want to be able to control super-solders, not have them reproduce and proliferate to enemy armies or go without a price.

I think there are real world GM crops that aren't able to reproduce for the same reason.

I think that's more because Monsanto likes to show off how comically evil they are. They also sue if wind/rain/animals get one of their seeds anywhere they didn't approve of. So say a rabbit eats some crops on one farm, shits it out on another farm, and that farm then grows one of those plants, Monsanto will do whatever they can to ruin that farmer's life. Terminator crops are just so Monsanto can put a patent on things like corn. And charge each year.

That is totally true. Shinra and Umbrella ain't got nothin on Monsanto.

I'm just dying for more insight into the lives of Dirty Duck and Machinegun Kid

Kojima has done far sillier before ;)

When Kojima revealed that "The Phantom Pain" was the subtitle for MGSV and that The Phantom Pain was the main part of the game, I started to wonder why he would call it that since this would suggest that the story might revolve around Big Boss' arm but that didn't make much sense so I thought that the meaning behind The Phantom Pain could serve as a theme to the game; a theme like "illusion", "hallucination", "deception" or as the lyrics in the song suggests it to be a "lie" would all be candidates to the theme of MGSV.

Paz deceived Big Boss, so did Chico and Kaz and God knows who is going to be next but most importantly deception can come from non-human factors, our own minds can deceive us, our thoughts can control us and make us believe things that are simply not real(read my signature). Phantom Pain sensations are described as perceptions that an individual experiences relating to a limb or an organ that is not physically part of the body. Our own minds deceived us here too, the mind is telling us that there exist a limb when in reality it is not there and the fact that the phantom limb is behaving like a normal limb(weight, volume, posture) is all part of the deception our minds are playing on us. Psycho Mantis deceived us in the past and can do it again even when he was still young, a person who has psychokinetic abilities will have them since birth and develop them as he gets older. Hallucination is a form of deception that our minds play on us and knowing Psycho Mantis can control a person's mind by making them see and feel something that is not real, he is thus contributing to that deception. A dream whether it was good or bad(nightmare) is deceiving us too. Picturing ourselves having sex with the woman we fantasized about the most and our body is reacting to that thought(erection) but then waking up knowing it was nothing but a wet dream that our mind chose to deceive us with that night. So yes, deception might end up being the theme of MGSV which justified the title being "The Phantom Pain".

"the game has thus far been announced for X360, PS3 and PS4"

?

I think it's a typo, because the rest of the paragraph talks about the limitations of old consoles compared to new PC's.

Hence we don't know how the console versions compare, and what compromises, if any, will have to be made for them. The deferred rendering solution suggests the gap between the PC footage and the consoles won't be cavernous, but the gap between PC and current consoles has been growing and it is only going to widen further.
