Does GOG have any major announcements on the horizon? I wonder, because with Disney letting Capcom remake DuckTales, you would think that they now own LucasArts, they wouldn't have much of an issue of letting the backlog debut this year. You would think at least.

I doubt it given that a corporate report from a few weeks ago didn't mention anything and just emphasized some R&D projects. Previously when they've signed new partners they've telegraphed it a bit.

I think if they could fix the 16-bit executable / early Win95 content donut hole they'd be able to bring a lot of good content. But that's a pretty huge project and given that GOG mostly uses DOSBox rather than doing their own development I doubt they have the capacity.

Well that sucks. Is there anything preventing them from just including ScummVM to run some of these games?

Hrm. What games would qualify under this donut hole?

Releases:

Krush Kill 'n' Destroy 2. RTS.

The other one's particularly exciting, though:

Strike Commander

Looking forward to playing this again! Looks like there's a better agreement in place with expansions now, too; this does have the speech pack and the mission pack. I guess this means it's time to start rooting for Privateer 2.

Even if you're not too enthusiastic for it, I will be! :p I loved that game back at release, trading between various space ports for profit, and all the cheesy live action clips mixed in. Each planet with it's own little video and even if the game wasn't what fans wanted, the trick to enjoying it I guess is just not having those expectations, because I had a ton of fun with it. Sure there were some bugs / a bunch of cheap things left in iirc, but the space fighting was still great with a nice market / upgrade system, and for the time it looked incredible.

Shit, I remember being hyped as fuck for KKND 2 back in the day, thanks to the success of the first one.

First game was horrible. I still remember that annoying bright nuclear flash that occurred every time you destroyed a building. I guess the game wasn't all bad since I played it through with both armies. Some of the levels were almost impossible to beat. Never played the second game.

I think I buy Jagged Alliance 2 today. I have bad history with it but hopefully this time I can finally finish the dam game. Was the wildfire add on any good? My old class mate loved it and raved about it 24/7 but I never had a chance to play it.

I *am* enthusiastic about it! I've no idea where my original copy is these days. One thing I recall is that there was a slip of paper in the box saying something like "threaten this guy in the game, please!", which *now* I suspect was actually a last-minute panic when they realised a bug exists.

FUCKING YES. One of the best games i have ever played.
Game has ton of glitches and translation is simply bad but there is no other game like this. One of the most oppressing atmospheres ever in gaming.

Who Would want to play that game ?

People who love Choices&Consequences, good story, good climate.

Anything 16 bit or that uses unsupported 32bit functions I guess.

Take Metal Marines (which you may remember from the snes). There was a windows 3.1 version of this game released.

vBda9Wl.jpg

It created three windows, status, your base and your enemies base. When you fired a missile or began a mech attack, the missile/jet would actually fly between your screen and the enemy screen, through the desktop - which was super cool back when I first played it. This worked all the way to Windows XP, which had something called WOW(windows on windows emulation) which emulated some 16 bit sys calls and so forth. This was removed when vista came out and replaced with WOW64, which emulates 32bit.

Which means games developed with 16 bit in mind pretty much don't work at all, while 32 bit(95-XP basically) have some support but it isn't perfect. So this would be a pretty big endeavour for GOG.

Strike Commander is really really good, GOG has been killing it so far this year.

I can't wait to pick this one up. Despite playing almost all of Origin's output during that era including all the WC games, I was never able to play Strike Commander. I seem to recall that it didn't linger on shelves long and it was notorious for being a pain to configure your computer to run it properly. I was working at a Software Etc. at the time and I don't even think we carried the game. If we had, I would have played it.

FYI, to celebrate hitting 11,111 subscribers for the YouTube channel, another giveaway!

tl;dw edition: 111 games to be won to people who subscribe to their YouTube channel before the 8th. Three commenters will also have the opportunity to get their PR guy to say something insulting about his hat.

Cool about the giveaway, can't believe I didn't subscribe before.

Oh and Strike Commander!! I always wanted to play this game but by the time I had a decent PC I was playing newer sims.

GOG.com has been doing an amazing job lately!

I'm kind of dreading Master of Orion II.
Don't - it's still a great game when all is said and done.
You're right it's less elegant overall than MOO1 - but it does have a better/deeper combat system, actual politics (in MOO1 it's really just an excuse for AI to backstab you), and some new interesting replay options due to race-customization and galaxy age options.
And AI is still as brutal as ever on hardest difficulty.

Sim Tower is perhaps the most well-known example of a game that falls into this category.

However, I recently got it running flawlessly on a 64 bit system using WINE. The code is all there for GOG to adapt - they just need to package it up nicely.

SimTower is a masterpiece. Modern adaptations fall so far short it's not even funny.

Signal Ops looks promising but no mentions here, anyone played it? The graphics remind of almost PS1 era 3D, likely intentionally, but there's potential in the game if it's done well. Not many tactical FPS these days.

According to the reviews, the game is promising, but dragged down buy unmodifiable controls and bugs aplenty.
What reviews? User reviews? There's just one. The other is a guy discussing that one review. And yes, I had read the page I linked to...

No need to get so defensive; I'd just assumed it'd been put up since you asked (although looking at it, that'd be a pretty narrow timeframe).

The Cat Lady was also released and is only $7.49 for the first week. Afterwards it will be $9.99.

Release: The Cat Lady

Meowing. Meowing. Meowing! Meowing in your head.

The Cat Lady, a visually bewildering point-and-click adventure game with dark and violent theme and a mad, genuinely unnerving story, is available 25% off on GOG.com. That's only $7.49 for the first week!

People are imperfect. That's a fact. But just knowing it, and seeing the extent of their imperfection, makes a colossal difference. So filled with fear, and aggression we are, us humans. Always threading so close to the edge of sanity, keeping the madness at bay only by means of everyday habits and social contract. But on the inside? What kind of insane thoughts fester the mind of the people you randomly pass by on the streets? What sick ideas would you find, if you had the ability to look into the minds of your close ones? Your neighbors? Your co-workers? You'll never know. But admit it, deep inside you're terrified of what might be going on in other people's heads. The true human nature might be the greatest horror in existence. This is a game playing on those fears.

The Cat Lady uses the classic point and click mechanics to tell a story that will put your mind way outside your comfort zone. It depicts violence, fear, and psychosis in a way that's both surreal and unsettlingly realistic. Its original art style adds even further to the depressive and unhinging mood. If you like an occasional trip to the other side of sanity and you're not afraid of some explicit imagery on the way, The Cat Lady will be an experience you won't soon forget.

Sometimes, we like to challenge you to stare deep into the void. Today is one of these days. Go on, get The Cat Lady for only $7.49 on GOG.com. Play it. Stay sane. Come back for more.

Bought Pathologic from Direct2Drive a while back but I like Ice-Pick Lodge and GOG so I wouldn't mind supporting them both.

My question though is if the gog version comes with the wide screen mod? Easy fix but they often include custom installs for some games so I was just wondering.

Edit: Is The Cat Lady worth purchasing? Art style seems interesting although I'm unfamiliar with it or the creator.

The Cat Lady is really good so far, I suggest you download the demo and try it out yourself.

I was just going through my gog wallpapers and I realized most of them suck. The only one I really like is the Wing Commander III wallpaper. Gog needs to hire some of the people that make wallpapers for the PS3, those are almost always good.

Damn it, the game just glitched and had electricity go out after I already spent the money on filling the meter the previous night(it even told me to get the money from my purse, which I had already done). Had to revert back 30 minutes, I need to save more often :/

Really enjoying the title though, despite some glitchiness.
