End of this please?

daaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwww

The funny thing was it was posted on another forum regarding Bulbagarden vs. Serebii. Apparently BMG and SPP are acronyms for both sites, respectively. Not sure what it stands for.
Bulbasaur's Mysterious Garden and Serebii's Pokemon Page, respectively.

In any case, seeing as this is probably the most appropriate thread for outlandish speculation....

Some people may have noticed that Masuda has changed his Twitter avatar this week. I'm not sure when he first put his last one up exactly, but I do know that he did that at the very least prior to the announcement of X & Y in the Pokémon Direct. That last avatar showed him in front of the Eiffel Tower, which we'd then see Pikachu on top of in the Pokémon Direct. So, does his new one, showing him in front of a soundboard, have any potential meaning? Is he hinting something to fans, like he may or may not have been last time? Or is it just that he felt time for a change, and thought this would be a cool pic?

sound type confirmed.

Sound Type? I remembered there are rumors about sound type or something.

sound type confirmed.

First thing that came to my mind is this:

Whismur and Loudred are getting a type change.

Live orchestra soundtrack?

Overhauled cries? PLEASE GOD THIS!!! :'(

8-bit music mode? PLEASE GOD THIS AS WELL!!!

Orchestrated, YISS. Gameboy Player again, YISS.

Pokemon saying their names as a shout is a stupid relic of the anime and should remain that way. Have the cries be realistic by all means, but when was the last time you walked into a forest and heard "PIGEON PIGEON. PIIIIIIGEON."?

I've been speculating about the possibility of Sound and Love types being added to the game this gen. I'll admit I'm still not all that hopeful though, despite a fair amount of circumstantial evidence. This gen is really the crunch time for new types. It just keeps getting harder and more unlikely the longer they leave it.

I've gone into a forest and heard "I'M A SQUIRREL. I'M A SQUIRRELLLL!!" before

Igglybuff, Jigglypuff, Wigglytuff, Whismur, Loudred, Exploud, Chingling, Chimecho, Chatot, Tympole, Palpitoad, Seismitoad, and Meloetta.

There are enough existing Pokemon to make it work, but I wouldn't hold my breathe.

No, Stadium-esc.

lol forgot about Exploud.

But yea, a Sound type doesn't sound unreasonable with many Pokemon being able to be changed to that type.

What would Sound be effective and not very effective against if it were to exist?

Not to mention Kricketot/Kricketune, Audino, Maractus...

Don't forget the fact that Soundproof exists either. There are a number of abilities which give Pokémon immunity to damage taken from a specific type of attack. Flash Fire, Levitate, Lightning Rod, Sap Sipper, Storm Drain, Volt Absorb, Water Absorb. And then...there's Soundproof and Oblivious. The only two not associated with an existing type, but both being associated with classes of moves which could plausibly be folded out of Normal and made into brand new types.

Personally, I would rather to see Love and Wind/Aero. I would like to see Flying type being changed/improved.

Super effective against Ear type. Also there is Ear type.

One of the stronger arguments for Love+Sound is the idea that Xerneas & Yveltal could be inspired by the sibling deities Artemis & Apollo. I think a "Wind" type would struggle to be differentiated from Flying, particularly since Flying already includes wind based attacks.

Perhaps Jynx and Altaria as well? Dang, now I'm hoping that your theory is correct. :P
When I put together my arguments for a Sound type, I focused specifically on existing Pokémon with only 1 type, or where one of those types was Normal. For something that has two types, I think it's less likely they'd be willing to outright change it's typing.

That's true. Just that I felt that Flying type are often geared to birds type rather than wind/aero typed.

Artemis and Apollo? wheres the connection?

Probably easiest if I just copy/paste what I've said elsewhere...

3. Initial speculation about Xerneas and Yveltal suggested they were inspired by Greco-Roman mythology. I believe this to be correct. Specifically, I believe that Xerneas is inspired by Artemis/Diana, and that Yveltal is inspired by Apollo.
In Greek mythology, Artemis (or Diana, as she was known to the Romans) is described as the twin sister of Apollo. She was considered the goddess of the hunt, wild animals, and the wilderness, and her sacred animal was the Deer. She was also considered the protector of young girls, and the goddess of childbirth and virginity, linking her directly to both the genetic theme of X/Y, and to a possible Love type.
It's a similar story for Apollo. Animals sacred to him included Hawk, Ravens and the mythological Griffon. He was considered the patron god of arts, music, and poetry, giving us a link to a possible Sound type. He was also considered the God of Manly Beauty and of Medicine, giving us a link to the X/Y theme as well.

4. Continuing on the Greco-Roman mythology theme, it must also be noted that Artemis's handmaidens were Nymphs. The Male counterparts of Nymphs were known as Satyr's, and they are well known for their association with music (as well as their debauchery). Though more associated with Pan and Dionysus than with Apollo, there is at least one important tale about Apollo and a Satyr called Marsyas, where they competed with their music.

How would they balance the hypothetical Sound-type?

I'm thinking...

Strong against: Dragon, Fighting, Psychic, Water
Weak against: Rock, Steel, Ice

I'd hate to give Steel even MORE resistances, but come on, it makes sense.

I think Ice would be weak against it in the sense that glass breaks with high-pitched noises/voices.

I feel as though there are two overlapping groups of Pokemon types
- "Natural" types: Fire, Water, Grass, Rock, Ground, Electric, Ice, Flying
- "Bridge" types: Fighting, Steel, Bug, Poison, Normal, Dragon (in both groups)
- "Ethereal" types: Dark, Ghost, Psychic

The ones that bridge the gap between the two of them lean much more towards the natural side anyway, so I feel as though we could do with some more of what I've called "Ethereal" types here.

The problem with Ice type is that it is absolutely atrocious defensively yet Ice type moves are very good. Part of the reason Kyurem-B is in OU (apart from the bad movepool) is because Ice offers very little (since Kyu-B can just brute force things down with Outrage) yet is a huge handicap defensively.

Ice resisting Dragon would be nice.

Psychic needs a major buff? I don't think so. :p

Though I agree, Steel should be weak against Sound.
Well, hyperbole aside, Psychic has been a terrible defensive type for the past few generations. Now that I think about it, Poison needs a buff even more than Psychic does; the irony being that I forgot Poison even existed.

Rock type is fine. There just needs to be better Rock type Pokemon.
Nope, Pokemon like Golem and Gigalith would be usable if they weren't weak against the most common attacks in the game.
