So is UFC/MMA more popular than WWE/Professional Wrestling in America these days?
I know they are completely different, but which one would you rank higher in popularity after NBA, NFL and MLB?

The Diaz/St-Pierre card did 900k domestic buys in America last month, Wrestlemania won't touch that. As a weekly T.V. show, WWE is more popular. As a big event fight/event PPV, UFC is bigger

Uhm...

WrestleMania X-Seven - 1,040,000
WrestleMania X8 - 880,000
WrestleMania XIX - 560,000
WrestleMania XX - 1,007,000
WrestleMania 21 - 1,085,000
WrestleMania 22 - 975,000
WrestleMania 23 - 1,250,000 (Former Highest Buyrate Record)
WrestleMania XXIV - 1,041,000
WrestleMania XXV - 960,000
WrestleMania XXVI - 885,000
WrestleMania XXVII - 1,042,000
WrestleMania XXVIII - 1,217,000

That should be over 900k domestic for sure for a few of those.

Yeah but he's talking North America only.

North America, yo.

All I'd say is, since we're operating on Meltzer numbers for UFC domestic buy rates, we should probably operate off the numbers from the same source for WWE.

Nope

We reported earlier last week that WrestleMania 28 finished with 1,217,000 buys, and according to The Wrestling Observer, here is how the show breaks down:

The PPV drew 713,000 domestic buys and 503,000 international buys. This makes WM28 the second highest drawing PPV WWE history in terms of domestic buys, with WrestleMania 23 still holding the number one spot with 825,000 buys.

I would like the Rock as champion more if he was still in his "People's Champion" persona. Expensive clothes, raising the eyebrow, calling people jabronis, asking Jillian Garcia if she wanted the People's strudel, etc.

Are you not enjoying Story Time with Dwayne Johnson?

Haven't been following much since last Mania, so what has the Rock's persona been like as champion? Has he gone baby face or something?

Rock doesnt know how to be a face. Last year he had to write on his arm to remember what to say.

Cena wont go heel, because of the reasons I said but everyone ignoring the main reason, he doesn't have it in him. He's so much of a good guy that its ruined him. Remember when he tried to get "real" on a promo and all it was was him saying del rio rents cars as he's not actually rich.

Bret Hart was right, cena is the ultimate good guy and to be a bad guy it would come off as goofy. It would also break his never give up attitude. He wants to win everyone over as a face. Him going heel might happen one day, but I personally don't ever see it happening.

unless he magically comes out as the shields ring leader, but that moment passed once they showed the hidden camera footage from maddox. Shield could have been so great. Ball dropped wwe.

This is why he needs to amp up the super cena to sarcastic levels. It's PERFECT

Pretty much. "I am the champion, this is the people's era! John Cena and Fruity Pebbles". They should of brought back a few Attitude Era writers for him.

Got a video?

In Latin America, UFC PPVs are broadcasted on cable tv, whereas WWE PPVs are still PPV

And WWE PPV buyrates are going down thanks to next day DVD piracy and improving internet conditions for watching illegal streams

Not to mention in most countries the PPV's in North America are completely free.

Either way, I don't see why people are comparing the two. One is a sport, the other is entertainment. It's dumb to compare them.

You also can't just go by PPV numbers. Some boxing matches will get way higher PPV numbers than UFC events. However as a whole MMA is arguably more popular at this point. Boxing gyms around the world are closing, while MMA and Martial Arts gyms are opening at a rate never seen before. At this point, of all the major boxing countries in the world, the only place not producing more top MMA fighters than Boxers is Mexico.

Whoa, what went wrong with WM19?

So my predictions: Winners in bold.

Miz vs. Barrett
(Will only take 3 minutes followed by 57 minutes of commercials)

Tons of Funkadactyls vs. Team Bella Rhodes Scholars
(Dancing afterwards)

Chris Jericho vs. Fandingo
(Dancing afterwards)

Team Hell No vs. Zig-E
(Ziggler selling to be the real winner here.)

Ryberg vs. Mizark
(Ryback will SHOCK the world and Mark Henry)

Team Hoss vs. The Shield
(No #HEEL turns here.)

Del Rio vs. Swagger
(No Cash in)

HHH vs. Bork Laser
(Paul E to be superkicked by HBK)

Taker vs. Punk vs. Living Colour
(With 3 Tombstones. Punk will attempt one but Taker will counter with one of his own and end it. 21-0.)

The Rock vs. John Cena
(No #HEEL turn. Massive Boos that will be edited out the next night on Raw.)

Gonna be watching this at Buffalo Wild Wings with my friend in a few hours. First WM I won't be following on WrassleGAF in about 4 years. :( Have fun everyone.

Yup what WWE should be doing is making it super easy to buy the PPV stream worldwide. They should be going balls-deep in legal streaming and charging $10 or something to lure away pirate streamers.

Charging $60 and not having legal streams in a lot of countries is a recipe for piracy, unfortunately. Baffles me how WWE don't get this.

So Cena goes ballistic and breaks the rocks leg and then beats him like mad with a chair ...and chokes him out with the steps and turns heel tonight right?

Apart from the fact that their online streams suck
