Jesus fucking christ, a BBC News Special at 4:00 spouting a ton of bullshit about how fucking amazing she was. Nice work being balanced, BBC

Odd, the bbc naturally leans to the left. Is the royal charter up for renewal or are they just being respectful for once?

Why was she voted in twice after the first time if she was despised so much?

I guess she had a lot of love by southerners?

North - South divide.

Unfortunately there always has been and always will be just about enough people to vote for the Tories to counteract those who still to this day will never vote Conservative.

This is why Britain needs Scotland and why Alex Salmond should not be allowed to claim independence. Without Scotland the rest of us are doomed to Tory government forever. I mean we didn't even vote the current lot in technically but we're still stuck with them. Be even worse without our friends North of the border.

The beeb is scared of the tories. If they do anything but praise they'll be called biased.

They just had a 1 hour 1;00 news talking about how amazing she was, obviously that's not enough.

Again: I don't expect them to tear her apart for being a piece of shit, but some balance would be nice.

Sorry dude. I want my social democratic government and I'm not getting it attached to the UK. Good luck with permanent tory govt!

BBC staff naturally lean to the left, but they called out on it so much, their output leans ever so slightly to the right. At any rate, we have tory government who seem to want nothing more to do away with the organization as a whole, and they're under pressure after Savile, so attracting more trouble be being critical is unwise for them, so this doesn't surprise me at all.

The BBC hasn't leant left since Gordon Brown. They've felt noticeably right for quite a while now. During the election it was fucking palpable.

Just reading things like "best PM ever!!!!" is mind boggling to me.

Churchill during the war, then Clement Richard Attlee and co bringing in the NHS? Meaningless. The woman who sought to punish the working class with a veracity only a sociopath could sleep at night after, thats who did the best for her people!!

I've never really got what the whole Milk snatching thing was about. She was a bit before my time

Don't know too uch about old Maggie but the Iron Lady was an interesting film. Certainly seemed a better class of politician than those we get today

RIP

She reversed the economic decline in Britain caused by rampant strikes and arrogant unions. Then almost everything else she did was a disaster.

Still, RIP to a real giant in British politics.

My mom met her during an event at a college my mom works at. Spoke to her for over thirty minutes alone and apologized to my mom about the Potato famine of all things. My mom then invited her over for hot dogs and hamburgers after work at our house.

She never showed up.

=(

... then educate yourself before giving her a eulogy?

Iron lady was the closest thing I've ever seen to propaganda in this country.

Indeed.

Thatcher dead eh ? Hm I will show Margaret Thatcher the same amount of respect in death as she showed the millions of poor and working class in life. This woman is responsible for untold amounts of misery, destitution and despair. There is not one single thing about Margaret Thatcher worth celebrating or remembering.

Oh Christ, what the fuck is this post. :(

I wonder if Elvis Costello's gonna keep his promise.

Two faced champagne socialist.

Whines about social inequality being caused by Thatcher, so what does he do..fucks off to live in America, the very definition and home of social inequality.

No time for these celebrity cunts.

For some reason I've got "Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead" stuck in my head, can't think why.

Also the sudden and unexpected urge to throw a huge party.

Unrelatedly, Thatcher was a massive force for evil as UK PM, and the legacy of Thatcherism is a continuing malevolent force on the country.

The love fest that will adorn our press and TV over the next days and weeks is sickening for a woman with so many victims.

She sold out half the country to the corporate leeches for scraps. If someone has financial problems and sells his house, car and everything he owns we don't exactly say that he saved himself financially, we say he's got nothing anymore.

This is a great day for humanity.

It was the removal of free milk in public schools for us younger kids at the time. Also i wouldnt base you feelings on her on that movie.

for all those who seem to think she 'fixed' the country in the 80s no she didnt, the north sea oil money did, if it wasnt for her squandering vast portions of it and selling off everything we owned on the cheap britain would be very very rich now

ding dong the witch is dead

Do you genuinely believe she sought to "punish the working class"?

Sure, why not. If she could work hard enough to become prime minister then so could all of them.

I'm joking, but I know a number of people who really hate "lower class" people after they've managed to drag themselves out of the mire.

... then educate yourself before giving her a eulogy?

Didn't realise saying she seemed a better politician than the lies of Cameron and Clegg counted as a eulogy these days.
Her policies weren't great but at least she had some form of a backbone which can at least be respected

An entirely public health monopoly the likes of which doesn't exist in any other Western country? Great stuff.

The lady who brought down the power of the corrupt unions who almost brought the once great empire to an almost standstill? Incredible.

I really hope this isn't some trend, judging historical figures based on movies, a bit too much 1984 for my tastes.

Not to construct strawmen, but plenty of awful politicians who have been a blight to both their country and their people have had what you would call a "backbone".

What the hell?

Pretty much going to be a national holiday in Belfast.

Neither happy or sad personally, but I know plenty who are ecstatic.

Hahaha.

That's different to seeking to punish the working classes. You haven't justified why you think her motivation (not the result) was to punish them.

She didn't exactly chase the tails of the rich throughout her career? Instead she plucked and pinched and pried and pilfered from the working class and the poorest to such a point it actually all managed to boil over into untold fury.

We're a much more subservient people today of course, the goggle box saw well enough to that, so I imagine Thatcher's Ghost could get away with just outright murder nowadays really.

Oh wow, we've got a live one here folks. Good lord. While you must be deeply mourning today's loss, I'm sure you were dancing in the streets the day the death warrant was signed on that "public health monopoly". Fuck me.

Whether you agree with what she did or not, she was the last PM to drastically change this country. Which is much more than what you can say about any PM we have had since.

the number of people I've seen celebrating the death of an 82 year old woman with dementia. it just makes me sad to live in the same country as these people :/
