Kobe Bryant likely has a torn achilles tendon

Worst fucking news to hear after getting out of a movie. :( At least the Lakers will have someone wearing a suit on the sidelines that knows wtf he is doing.

Everyone from NBA-GAF will know that most Lakers fans and myself (hell, everyone even) have constantly criticized Pringles for over-playing Kobe. We all knew an injury would be inevitable.

I blame D'Antoni's stupid ass and I hope he gets fired from his job after this disastrous season He has completely solidified the fact that he's a useless hack of a coach. he failed in Phoenix, New York, and is failing in LA; except in LA he's decided to go out with an unprecedented bang by killing Kobe Bryant, and possibly the entire Lakers franchise. We should seriously consider crucifying this guy in LA, because he could eventually be the reason for the end of Kobe--and Kobe has plenty of die-hard fans here.

This could pretty much cripple the entire Lakers organization depending on the severity and implications of Kobe's injury all, everyone expected Kobe to re-sign after the end of his contract (after next season). But what if he has to retire? What if he misses all of next season?

If he misses next season, we still have to pay him, try and re-sign Dwight, pay the luxury tax, and what do we end up having? A Kobe-less team similar to this year's injury laden,
broke-ass Yankees. I expect no playoffs next year if Kobe's injury is serious. I'm trying not to panic, but as a Lakers fan it's very hard not to.

Watching his post-game interview was heart-breaking. The guy has carried the team over his shoulders all year more than any other team leader I know, and he's played while being injured, had to acclimate to a new offense after Pringles was hired, dealt with team drama, humiliation and criticism for the lakers underperforming, the team owner passed away, and of course: never-ending team injuries which have occurred like clockwork.

After all of that, and when they've finally almost reached the playoffs (a pathetic 8th seed) he injures himself in the worst possible way. That's why it was so hard seeing this man cry on TV.

Is an achilles injury really that bad? Obviously he can't play for a while, but he can come back and play right?

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. And you can't blame D'Antoni. Do you really believe that ownership and the fans wouldn't have crucified him if he did force Kobe to sit during a run for the eighth seed? Now maybe the rest of that team can live up to its potential.

Paying my respects.

Kobe will return, but he won't be at the same level. None of the other current superstars have anything close to the fiery competitiveness of Kobe. End of an NBA era.

It varies with age. At the very least, he'll be out for half a year. And that's if he goes hardcore with trying to recover. Pro wrestler Edge legit got the same injury at 36, and he came back in about 6 months when the early diagnosis was that he'd be out a year.

This was bound to happen. He's been pushed way too much for way too long. Thank D'Antoni and Buss the lesser for compiling this mess of a team. I really hate to see him go out like this, but at least he will likely play again.

As a Warriors fan, this game made me sick. Some of the calls...losing by two...Curry not making any highlights despite draining 9 threes. Feels bad man.

But I hope Kobe comes back from this. Not a Lakers fan by any means, but he's an all-time great and I love watching him play. Dude is tough as nails too, sad to see him go down trying to carry his team into the playoffs. It was eerie watching the game because I had a feeling he was going to injure something. You could almost see him breaking down physically as the game wore on.

Just what I was thinking. I can't deny the incredible talent and athleticism of players today, but none of them are very interesting to me. That competitiveness and that need to win just isn't as apparent in the younger stars in the league as it is in guys like Kobe.

last time people were crying about a Kobe injury, dude came back and played the next game. No disrespect, but it's Hollywood. The witch ain't ever really dead, dead. Always expect a twist.

great competitor. i'm not a fan of the guy because despite his prodigious offensive talent he never was a team player. this year he was forced to be and it was great to watch. hope for a recovery that allows him to leave the game on his terms.

Kobe to me last link to the cutthroat NBA competitors like a Jordan, Bird, Magic who played to win and wasn't interested in being your buddy like today's players. Hopefully this is not the end

I love the Celtics, and as such hate the Lakers with a passion.

However seeing the NBA's 2 greatest franchises get old and seeing its best players get injured over and over again sucks, and I got nothing but respect for Kobe. I was actually looking forward to seeing them flip a switch in the playoffs and kick some ass as the 8th seed.

Hope he gets back sooner than later.

Garnett'll hold that banner until Kobe gets back. KG actually prefers when people hate him, I think.

Taking a time away to completely heal might extend his career imo

The guy never stops playing ball between the NBA, overseas, and promotional stuff. Yeah, his Achilles is torn but his knees are going to be damned grateful for the rest. So are his ankles, shoulders, wrist, broken fingers, and every other hit he's taken without addressing completely.

I just hope he doesn't try to come back too soon. He's going to want to.

I didn't think about the Celtics aging also. Times are a-changin'.

Though maybe when Dwyane Wade's body breaks down in a few months Lebron will leave Miami and have another superstar powwow in Boston or LA. He can recruit Kevin Love since he hates Minnesota and Chris Paul from the Clippers since Vinny Del Negro is a bad coach.

kidding, Lebron is going to Cleveland to try and win back his home state with Kyrie

It must be hard on him, he probably wants to keep playing and he is probably confident that he could come back from it, but you just know there's that shadow of doubt forming in the back of his own mind, and uncertainty is probably his worst enemy right now

Man...

Watched this game tonight with the wifey, so fucking sad.

I was yelling at the screen to take him out by the first knee bump, but by the second one hit it was just getting ridiculous, screaming: get him outta the Coach! something gonna give. you can clearly tell his body wasn't responding after the intial hyper extension, then the Achilles goes out.

damn! so preventable.

Coach, Stubbornness and Kobe's will in the end brought him down, 47+ minutes on a 34+ year old = dumb

Kobe though went out like a warrior.

GSW are a jump shooting team, you don't get many ft's off jumpers. They also purposefully fouled dwight a ton of the time to prevent him from getting easy pts.

You obviously didn't watch the game or don't understand basketball to think 50 FT is a normal thing, Kobe was getting fouled when the warriors just looked at him

I hate what ESPN has done to me. My first, immediate thought after hearing this was "wow maybe he's done for good....now I don't have to hear them jizz over him passing MJ in points!"

Even though they were going to be done in the 1st round if they got lucky enough to get in, this does kind of suck. I respect his work ethic and he deserves to go out on his own.

Off Kobe's Facebook page

This is such BS! All the training and sacrifice just flew out the window with one step that I've done millions of times! The frustration is unbearable. The anger is rage. Why the hell did this happen ?!? Makes no damn sense. Now I'm supposed to come back from this and be the same player Or better at 35?!? How in the world am I supposed to do that??
I have NO CLUE. Do I have the consistent will to overcome this thing? Maybe I should break out the rocking chair and reminisce on the career that
was. Maybe this is how my book
ends. Maybe Father Time has defeated me...Then again maybe not! It's 3:30am, my foot feels like dead weight, my head is spinning from the pain meds and I'm wide awake. Forgive my Venting but what's the purpose of social media if I won't bring it to you Real No Image?? Feels good to vent, let it out. To feel as if THIS is the WORST thing EVER! Because After ALL the venting, a real perspective sets in. There are far greater issues/challenges in the world then a torn achilles. Stop feeling sorry for yourself, find the silver lining and get to work with the same belief, same drive and same conviction as ever.
One day, the beginning of a new career journey will commence. Today is NOT that day.
"If you see me in a fight with a bear, prey for the bear". Ive always loved that quote. Thats "mamba mentality" we don't quit, we don't cower, we don't run. We endure and conquer.
I know it's a long post but I'm Facebook Venting LOL. Maybe now I can actually get some sleep and be excited for surgery tomorrow. First step of a new challenge.
Guess I will be Coach Vino the rest of this season. I have faith in my teammates. They will come thru.
Thank you for all your prayers and support. Much Love Always.
