that's because kobe bryant by himself is more culturally significant than the nhl has ever been in its entire history
Hockey fans are an odd bunch.

I'm not even a basketball fan, but goddamn you're annoying in this thread.
I don't know if you remember, but there was a time when not every single discussion was relegated to a single, often (unintentionally) insular megathread.
Some topics have a more general appeal. I'm sorry that more people care about Kobe than about the NHL.
Who did you see come back from one in the NBA? The most recent tears all resulted in retirement in the NBA--Barkley, Shaq, and Billups, who is basically retired.I'm sorry Milchjon, I don't mean to hamper your experience intentionally. And frankly I couldn't care less how anything compares to the NHL. I live in a country where nobody even knows it exists, and specifically a city where AFL is religion.
My original point is that an achilles tendon injury, pending permanent damage (rare cases), is recovered from with 4-6 months of surgery and rehab and that I'd seen it enough in various leagues of different sports to know that it isn't worth the melodrama of what's being displayed. Everything else was a tangent, and I apologise for it hampering your internet forum experience.
Your original point was calling NBA players, and in this case, Kobe Bryant, a pussy because they take an excessive amount of time to recover. This was proved false, as Kobe almost always plays through his injuries. Any NBA fan can tell you that, regardless of they how they feel about him personally.I'm sorry Milchjon, I don't mean to hamper your experience intentionally. Elton Brand came back from his tear in 2007. He was younger than those guys though.
You've never skated before, have you? You skate hard, "make cuts" and "stop on a dime" and "change direction" on the ice too. Except you've got this lovely thing called velocity working against you. We're done before you even started.
Not really. Brand was never the same afterwards
Nique came back, but he wasn't at the end of his career. He only had like 9 seasons under his belt. Kobe has like 17 now.Didn't Dominique Wilkins make a successful comeback?
It's who it happened to that's causing the melodrama you fuckwhit.
Now lets continue into you fellating the big strong hockey players...
He was a lot more functional than the other guys who had the injury though. Going from being in the MVP discussion to being just a random big man was a pretty gigantic fall though.
He's probably the only exception. You are talking about it like its not a big deal when most players never recovered, Elton Brand included. Even Laron Profit tore it at a young age and never returned to the NBA.Didn't Dominique Wilkins make a successful comeback?
Who?Memo Okur gets forgotten even in injury discussion![]()
I'd like to see him come back as a PG.
NHL lol
hope kobe is able to recover from this. would be terrible way for him to out.
Err?Ease up champ, no need for that.
Kobe is very important to your specific part of the globe. It makes it very hard for the rest of the world to understand when on the outside all we see is "marquee player of a major sport" and compare it to the same example happening to marquee players of other sports (in this case, I'm mentally personally comparing to rugby/AFL, hockey and even cricket superstars who have gotten achilles tendon injuries and come back successfully).
Grow up, mate.
]This needs it's own topic in OT?[/b]
lol, thinking the same thing. Fucking pussies. It's a shame he doesn't have an upset tummy or a sore pinkie. Otherwise everyone would know for sure that he'd be out for exactly 6 weeks.
For those not in the know...
OH GOD CAREER ENDING INJUR- oh wait...
And this isn't some scrub either. This is a guy who won the Norris trophy last year for best defenceman.
For someone who came in here with his chest out, it's shocking how quick you retreated to the high ground.
This is an Achilles, not an ACL.A 35 year old with a torn ACL is almost always "done" in most sports. I'm sure he'll run off somewhere and get as much deer antler spray, HGH, or whatever it takes to get back to the game but it would take a medical miracle for him to come back 100% for a sustained amount of time.
Nobody is going to ask for or expect 100% Kobe.A 35 year old with a torn ACL is almost always "done" in most sports. i tore mine at age 22, was about a year until i was active again.
Ease up champ, no need for that.

Well I'm just gonna call a spade a spade in such a domain, and you're just gonna have to ignore me or just see it for what it is.There's a bit of difference between slinging some salt at professional athletes and acting vulgar to people directly on the internet.

Could be the end. Very sad.

So in some ways, it's still worth noting that it's likely the end of an era.
Just makes the fact that Duncan at 36 being the best big in the NBA averaging almost 20/10 even more amazing
Saved us from those racist Spaniards in 2008, so yes, he does.Kobe Bryant is a true american hero, and deserves a purple heart.

Mate, champ lol.
You came in here calling NBA players pussies and don't even understand the context of the OP. Kobe will go down as one of the greatest of all time and that era is coming to an end. Pull your head out of your ass and quit a ting like a jerkoff.

Saying you're the "toughest guy in the league" in NBA is like saying you're the strongest weightlifter in the chemotherapy clinic.
Personal? I'm throwing salt at someone who came in here on some ignorant shit an started crying when it got thrown back at him.Hopefully one day you'll go traveling the world, and you'll notice this thing where people outside of your country have different lingo to yours. Best prepare yourself for it now before you receive a rude shock, lest you go to the UK and get personally offended if somebody asks you for "a fag".
I must be the first person on NeoGAF to enter a topic, see the context and call it as they see it. Imagine that, a world where people are able to discuss perspectives, opinions and ideas on a global scale on the internet.
You've got a world of hardship ahead of you if you take this sort of thing personal.
Since there's no further relevant discussion, I'll leave it as this.
