I wish our taxpayer alliance in Australia had some clout.

make it stop, Lord
Sorry, I stand corrected. They ran straight to the EU, bent over and gave our rebate away. That they did change.
Our one doesn't have any clout either, it's an entirely independent, organisation representative of the UK population. They must be being censored by the media, they can't all be Conservative supporters.
Daily Record said:The £6million property Thatcher lived in for more than 20 years is owned by Bakeland Property Company, based in the Caribbean territory. Their official address is a PO Box in Liechtenstein and they had their original roots in St Helier, Jersey.
Ha. I see what you did there. At least you guys know that there is an organisation that exists for the advocacy of taxpayers interests, however ridiculous you might think they are. Politics in the UK is endlessly interesting. Meanwhile in Australia, we have an election coming in September and it looks like the self-destruction of the Labor party has basically just handed the next election to the Liberals. Great stuff guys.
For what it's worth, our previous PM took a lot of inspiration from Thatcherism, but a little more moderate I suppose and our country is a lot better off for it.
This just gets better and better :-

Basically a tax dodge to avoid paying 2.4 million in inheritance tax. I am now of the view there are skivers and scroungers in this country but it isn't poor people on benefits.
He gave some of it away, to help fund EU expansion into former eastern block countries.

Typical of Thatcher, taking away Big Ben's right to strike.....
That has to be the "best" joke so far on my Twitter timeline.
The funeral is becoming a farce, even some MP's are beginning to question why Big Ben is being silenced and why the whole funeral is costing £10 million, although allegedly Maude is not including the wages of the 3000 armed forces personnel and police officers who will be part of the funeral and security in the final cost.

There are better farces costing £10m than this.
...four NHS homeopathic hospitals.
Seriously? Is this Ayurvedic / traditional Chinese healing therapies or watery molecular nonsense?
Ah, that makes it alright then....

£10m is about 18 months food-and-alcohol subsidy to the House of Commons. Or two years costs of the four NHS homeopathic hospitals.
Both actually. I think they started off with the watery molecule stuff but have been branching out into other things that don't work too.
Why can't all of them be stopped?
Most of all the homeopathy.
On our nursing course you can't criticise these therapies, Service users get what they want. I understand being respectful on the wards, but in uni we should be a little more real.
That Big Ben thing is taking it too far again. Cameron is such an idiot, how can he not see that this is rather inappropriate for a non-state funeral of a PM?
What's Big Ben got to do with Cameron?

When I started working in theatre in England, I would meet people, and they would say Oh, I voted for Margaret Thatcher.
The first time I heard someone saying that, I honestly thought they were joking. Id be thinking, I have never met anyone from your world.
Whats it like? Do you roast children over open fires?
The US is sending Baker and Kissinger. The American's do love their irony. Very pleased she has been ignored by every major developed nation.
Today is a black day for British Broadcasting.
Huh, who has ignored her? They announced representatives from almost all major countries.
Just back from the dentist. They were showing the funeral preparations in the waiting room and some old lady shouted "turn that evil cunt off!", to which they duly obliged.
Jeremy Kyle went on instead. This is in Ireland though.
Who was the last ex PM to die? Just curious as to whether we usually see heads of state at these occasions, I honestly can't remember the last one.No heads of state. It is a snub diplomatically.

The inability of so many on this forum to admit market orientated policies can accomplish anything at all, whilst reaping all the rewards of capitalism and its excesses continues to baffle me. She was necessary, whether kind heart hearted or not. Before her time unions were crushing national productivity and spooking international investors, the Government before her was begging the IMF for debt servicing and the British economy was in a ditch.
Her privatisation efforts when she was in office turned the entire country around, at absolute minimal cost whilst she was doing it. Over the long term her efforts do indeed look significantly worse, but it was her responsibility to govern in her time, there were Governments past hers that bare far more of the blame on the economic crash 20 years after the fact. She also recognised climate change about as early as any leader could.
She also nailed the problem of the EU with her understanding of monetarism, whilst none of the other Governments singing on to that nightmare did. As far as feminism goes, she is still the most remarkable female leader of modern times, she struck a real balance between her femininity and her ability to wipe the floor with the entire opposition party again and again and again.
All the newspapers were reporting on how much of a joke she was when she arrived as the leader of the opposition, met real male supremacy, and she turned out to be the most powerful PM since Churchill. Its an admirable feat no matter where on the isle you stand.
