Dolphin - Emulating Wii and Gamecube Games

That's a shame. The difficult part for Nvidia is that as far as I know, windowed 3D support has to work via profiles and it's probably quite hard for them to keep up with the constant update cycle of an open project like Dolphin. The reason that the DX9 3D Vision hack works is that it forces Dolphin to run in "exclusive" full screen mode, which allows the Nvidia driver to more easily detect Dolphin. Honestly, I could probably make a similar hack for DX11 if the Nvidia driver works the same for DX11 applications...

The ideal solution would be for Nvidia to allow non-Nvidia developers to create these profiles but it doesn't seem like that's likely to happen. I've asked on the forums but they only seemed interested in implementing it themselves, which is surprisingly nice of them, but it means that it'll break quite often.
If you really want to feel less guilty you could always attempt recreating that custom Z-sorting algorithm Factor 5 used in all their games :P

This shot is awesome! So meta.

Billy Hatcher looks great with widescreen hacks. Emulation is very great.

Playing or leaving it running for more than about 3 hours causes audio glitches, though, which requires a restart to fix.

Is it easy/feasible to play Project M with this? Always had an interest in it, because I want to see if it actually feels more like Melee, but not sure if I want to mod my Wii just to play it.

Hmm, but does anyone know if it does work with Dolphin? 4k resolutions make it hard for me to go back to my Wii.

Yes it does. The instructions might look a bit too verbose, but it basically falls down to making a Virtual SD Card, importing the Project M files into it, make sure the WAD is updated on Dolphin (Check "Insert SD Card" too), and opening the boot.elf file that comes with Project M.

I'm having some issues with my Wii remote connecting. Every time I want to connect, I have to remove the wiimote as a device from my list, then add it again. Then I have to try adding it over and over until it actually connects. I have a rocketfish mini bluetooth which is supposed to be compatible.

Any ideas?

Anybody? Please?

Side note: does anyone know how to make it so that mario doesn't have that weird reflective glow like the last image?

It happens whenever I'm using free look to see him from an angle that the camera wouldn't typically be able to see

What Wii/GCN games look/run best in Nvidia 3D?

Most games I've tried have worked pretty much perfectly.

Resident Evil 4 is exceptional in 3D. Luigi's Mansion is really cool to see the game how the developers wished we would be able. F-zero in 3D/First person is nauseatingly awesome.

Don't wanna start a flame war with anyone but can anyone help me with AMD vs Intel? About to retire my old rig and in most PC games its give and take on who is faster so its mute. I do remember intel being faster in Dolphin (and PCSX2) but this was gosh 3 years ago.

So if i'm upgrading to I go AM3+ (steamroller is gonna be AM3+ right? so easy upgrade) or Haswel (Who knows about upgrades) if emulation the last concern

Intel is better for PCSX2 and Dolphin, that said, my FX-6300 at 4.4ghz has worked really well... any game that doesn't work on it, generally doesn't work on any hardware out there (ZoE2 on PCSX2 for example kills even 5ghz i7's)

So I may have been working on a WW texture mod. Though before I get anyones hopes up; it's not finished and I don't know if I will finish it because I was only actually planning to do Outset Island.

But I ended up doing pretty much every texture from the start up until the first time you leave the Forsaken Fortress anyway...

I also got bored and did some optional Link and shield textures based on other games in the series and a pixel HUD based on LTTP.

Anywho you can download what I've done so far here.

Hopefully you'll read this. Supossedly the game was ment to be 3D, is there any truth to that? In the sense that for some reason is the game more 3D friendly than other GC games you have played.

If you're referring to Luigi's Mansion, yeah I knew that - but generally just about any game I've tried works pretty fantastically with 3D.

One notable exception is NSMB:Wii, which only does 3D in the overworld, and in the actual levels is in 2D.

If you're curious to see what the 3D looks like, I've got 2 examples that are GIF, if you are capable of doing the cross eyed 3D.

Is there any particular settings to get games to work in 3d? I selected nvidia 3d under enhancements and reduced the resolution (passive 3d), but when I launch a game (I tried Viewtiful Joe and New Super Mario Bros Wii) it doesn't look like it is in 3d and I can't select anything.

If you can't just use the Ctrl+T toggle to enable 3D in game, then you'll have to use the 3D option under graphics settings like you've said.

In order to use a controller with 3D mode, you have to go into the controller settings and tick "Background Input".

The way 3D works, is it doesn't get detected unless it's in exclusive fullscreen mode, so once it is, you can't interact with the emulator anymore. As soon as you leave the emulation window, the game crashes, so no alt tabbing out.

Basically, just load it up in 3D, play the game, save, then tab out and let it crash.

It's not a perfect set up (toggling it on with Ctrl+T used to work beautifully, but it never seems to catch anymore for me) but the results when it's working are usually fantastic.

Also, I only have active 3D (BenQ XL2420TX) so I'm not sure what the difference would be with passive.

Having trouble getting this to work on Dolphin 3.5 x64 with D3D9 (custom textures enabled)
Followed all the instructions... is there anything else I should be doing, such as deleting some of the files in the GZLE01 folder before I place it in User/Load/Textures?

I assume I should be seeing Wind Waker HD in the title screen...

Ah, sorry about that! Turns out you need "Texture Cache" in the "Hacks" tab set to Safe otherwise most of the textures don't load. And yeah if it's working you'll see it say "Wind Waker HD" on the title screen.

I also noticed that when installed the hero's shield is one of the alternate shields instead of a high res version of the original.
So you'd have to go to GZLE01/Characters/Link/Shields and either delete all the extra shields or rename 'Original Shield' to '01 Original Shield' to get it to load first.

Also, more pics!

Works now, thanks!
I added a line about it in the readme, wouldn't hurt to mention it in the original readme either.

I have to say, you've done some phenomenal work upgrading the textures while preserving the exact detail of the originals!
It's almost as if you traced every single texture with a vector program or something!
Is that how you did it?

Amazing job! That's a lot of work for changes that are at times quite subtle!
Also, are the button icons just missing due to a problem on my end?

OH duuuude! How did you find all of the item icons textures!

I saw the telescope had like 50 textures you were able to change.

How tough would it be to find all of the items textures in the game?

I want to make them all transparent so that I can take HUDless screenshots.

A few months ago there was a complete texture dump of Wind Waker going around the web.. I remember downloading it at the time but must have erased it.
A simpler option would be to enable free look in order to take hudless screenshots.

I use Free Look, it doesn't disable the HUD though.

would you prefer going through the original texture dump?

Hmm so I did some searching around and was able to find an old Disable HUD AR code that didn't work in Dolphin, BUT I was able to convert it in a way that made it work.

The only things it doesnt hide are stuff like keys in the corner in dungeons, how many rupees you've got, and the "C Look" icon.

So I've found a nice little work around for the stuff that isn't as obnoxious to just texture replace out.

Thanks for the help though!

I'm using the HD textures by Hypatia, but most of these shots are areas that don't have the high res textures yet.

You still see the benefits on Link himself though!

Thank you! =D

Some of the textures were vectored, like the water textures in those first images, but the vast majority of them (like the door) were hand painted. Most were painted at 4x their original size though a couple (like the pirate ship) were done at 8x. So yeah, it took a lot of work.

Also, are the button icons just missing due to a problem on my end?

Ah no, that's actually intentional. The WW HUD has always bothered me since so much of it is pointless for anyone who's played a 3D Zelda before. Plus the text would've been a lot of work =P

I could always make high res versions though it's just theres already a high res HUD out there so it seemed kinda pointless to do it all.

Nigh on impossible? Like theres different icons depending on which map you're in, how far you are in the game, which file you're on AND which button it's assigned to. And yeah there's almost 300 telescopes so far and I've not even reached Windfall. :/

Also those screen shots of the Earth Temple make me want to texture more ¬_¬

You've done a superb job!
This is probably the best retexture job I've ever seen. If I didn't know any better I'd have thought you somehow had access to original assets at Nintendo that were made at a higher resolution.

Regarding the HUD, don't worry about it! I can always just get the high res HUD, and you've put in enough work as it is..

Are you using the wind waker texture dump from a few months ago (4,420 files) or your own dump?
Because that one doesn't seem to have nearly as many telescopes in it :P

I wish there was an easier way to get iso's. I have a copy of Skyward Sword and I would really prefer to play it with a 360 controller. I don't care about it enough to get a new DVD drive or figure out how to rip it on my Wii.

Help Please!!

Downloaded the 3.5 build. First I couldn't start the app because I was missing some DLL 'xinput1_3.dll' I have download it and got another error '' The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application.

Ideas??

Appreciate it.

Edit : I got it now. Awesome Thread :)

Any Idea how to get dolphin to recognize the xbox 360 controller? Am using a wireless controller but connected to the pc with the USB cable. The controller is installed under the device manager properly with the latest driver it said. Using windows 8 which found the driver by it self and installed the controller. The dolphin cant find it and its not on the input option either. Any Idea?

Honestly, I had always looked at Wind Wakers textures and thought "Eh, a bit low res but whatever the art style holds up." But now that I've got your pack installed, seeing screenshots side by side with areas your pack improves compared to other sections, god your pack looks fantastic.

If you were to drop a little how to, I'd be glad to help start updating textures myself in areas you haven't reached yet.

I posted about this problem on the Dolphin issues page ages ago, it seems as though they have figured out what's going on and that the textures are in fact, the same files. Unfortunately, fixing it might also break some other texture packs so... yeah, I dunno what they'll do about that.

I do hope they fix it, Wind Waker is one of the few games that I think would really benefit from a HD texture pack. I actually started working on expanding Benito's pack a while back but completely stopped when I started bumping into the annoying duplication issue, so yeah, I hope you keep going and that a Dolphin dev makes it easier for you.

I'm pretty sure you have to use a wired 360 controller or the wireless dongle/wireless controller. Connecting the usb charge cable to the pc only charges the wireless controller.

Alright, so this is really great.

Some people have been able to use the emulator that Nintendo made for the Zelda Collectors Edition and force it to emulate other games, such as Super Mario 64 and Mario Kart on the Gamecube.

But! But! But! Who cares? Well, I do! Because now you can play those games, with all the perks of Dolphin, including free look AND 3D support!

Super Mario 64 in 3D is really, really cool!

I'm sure I could count the number of people who actually care on one hand, but I think this is super awesome.

Have you had a shot at Xenoblade in 3D? Easily the best 3D experience I had, even though it's not really playable (cutscenes look all screwed).

After some moderate tweaking of the 3D vision settings, running through the foliage at the beginning of the game and seeing the depth of the world was absolutely mind blowing.
