Paranorman? Nice. If you haven't already watched it, now is the time. Great movie.

Anyway, noticed that Cabin in the Woods is up on the UK 'flix. I know what I'll be watching tonight.

Anyone watch Hemlock Grove yet? Is it good?

From the Hemlock thread:

Staying for the gore. Definitely. Tokubetsu is all in. Some of the acting and cinematography is spotty though. Acting feels like it could be better if they had some better director/dp though. At least in this first ep.

Absolutely nothing about this show makes sense. Imagine if Twin Peaks was just batshit crazy constantly. 80% of the dialog barely even makes sense with context. I am loving it. Direction seems to have improved slightly outside of the first ep.

It's a bit tame for Roth. Some spotty CGI usage but they're not afraid to go full practical for corpses etc. I'm only on ep four but so far they haven't delivered a lot of violence or action. Just corpses after the fact mainly but the first death had pretty good shock value. Not a lot was shown but what was, had good effect sfx and visual fx in consideration.

Right now it's definitely trying to build some kinda Twin Peaks atmosphere but with more of a physicla pay off (tits, corpses etc). Props for having the werewolf eat it's shed human skin after changing.

Good to hear about MI2. I heard MI4 was really good, but haven't seen any of them. Wanted to do a catch-up on Netflix, but 2 was the only one not there.

it's kinda strange, but the MI moves actually got better as the sequels went along. Though 3>4 by just a bit. The first two are the weakest, with MI2 being terrible, IMO

The Cruise missile just gets better with age apparently

Let me know how Dark Matters is if anyone watches it. It has negative reviews from the Netflix reviewers, but I'm curious since it's an anthology series.

This is so wrong.

1 is the only legitimately good mission impossible film. 2 has badass moments. 3 is mediocre. 4 i forgot almost everything except the dubai climb minutes after i left the theater.

just watch the first two and maybe 3 if you really like ethan hunt.

the cruise missile peaked with collateral and his spielberg films. now his movies are all the same thing.

Nah, I sorta agree with the Wabbit. 1 is good, 2 is meh, 3 and 4 are good entertainment. In fact I've always been surprised how much I enjoyed the whole series for the most part.

Silly question, but is a ~6mb connection fast enough to stream Netflix in HD? :(

I was watching 24 last night and it just wouldn't switch into HD

Tai Chi Zero any good?

Saw it at the Toronto film festival. Thought it was pretty great. My expectations were really low though, since I was kind of picking movies at random. I think this would qualify as an entertraining movie even without the "festival" stipulation. The elevator pitch: heavily anime and videogame influenced steampunk kung-fu.

Does Netflix kill anybody's internet connection?

Everytime I watch something on Netflix, after about half an hour, my internet connection dies. It isn't a router problem, as I still get WiFi on all of my other devices. Just my laptop.

Hemlock Grove, it can be kinda meh at times but there is enough interesting stuff to keep me watching.....interesting and intriguing.

Add Detropia to the documentaries to check out list. Talks about the Detroit and follows several current residents including a video blogger, a president a local uaw union , a blues bar owner a couple blocks away from one the big factories that was/is abandoned

hrm...the thread for it was overwhelmingly negative. i went from "oh shit i've never heard of this, gonna marathon a new show!" to "pass." in the span of about 5 minutes, after reading some of the impressions.

6.2 on IMDB.

I've watched this film probably 3 or 4 times on Netflix now. It's Freaky Friday, except it's a boy and a girl that switch places. It's good for a few laughs, makes ya think a bit, and is a cute romantic comedy if you're into that sort of thing.

The first couple of episodes move kinda slowly, but the end of the second episode provides that first holy shit moment. There are enough interesting elements to keep me watching.

Awake was pretty darn good. The lead actor has a future.

I knew he looked familiar but didn't realize he played Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies until I IMDBed.

Second this. Comparable to stuff like She's All That and those other teen rom coms from 90s, early 2000s.

I think Netflix was acting up last night. I couldn't get HD either.

Thanks, I'll give it a try later :) It could be my connection though I guess (which would suck, because I've just locked myself into my 6m/b connection for 12 months!)

After scouring the Netflix website, I spoke with Steve Swasey, Vice President of Communications for Netflix.

As a guideline, Swasey suggested the following minimum internet speeds for Netflix:

1 Mb/s for viewing on a laptop computer

2 Mb/s for viewing standard definition video on a TV

4 Mb/s for viewing High Definition video

5 Mb/s or more for the best audio and video experience
My internet connection is 5mb/s and when I've watched 24 season 1 on both the PS3 and Xbox 360 it won't switch into HD. Any ideas please? My HTPC (Acer Revo 3610) isn't fast enough to run it in 720p :(

@ Mr Luchador do you think that'd be the case for the UK as well as the US?

Oh wow-Paranorman is up? That's a fantastic movie!!

ParaNorman is the most beautiful animated movie I've ever seen.

Thank you all for the recommendation. It was al excellent movie. And it was beautifully shot. Charming movie to boot.

Has anyone watched Awake (cancelled NBC show)?

I have watched about mid-way through the season, and I enjoyed it. Really well done show, that was, of course, canceled.

GAF, would like a few recommendations for a movie to watch tonight.. I like comedy, action and dramas. Nothing too complicated or anything. I liked Shooter, Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, any high rated comedy, etc.
