Netflix |OT| Where Binge Watching is Encouraged

So I finally pulled the trigger and got Netflix. My wife and I like documentaries about anything or anyone. Can the good minds of GAF help us out with a good starting place? A nice massive list of must-see documentaries would be great.

Just assume I've seen none ever and whatever I have seen I can just skip over.

Thanks!

I gets some negative reviews, but I enjoyed Craigslist Joe when I watched it.

Most of the docs I wind up watching are the nature docs or Ken Burns docs and they usually go on for something in the background.

You guys are already awesome.

Craiglist Joe was actually the first documentary we randomly watched and I've heard things about Jiro before I got Netflix so it was on my list already. Can't wait to check out all these other recommendations!

If Mystery of the Toynbee Tiles and Senna are still up I recommend those.

Whoa, I didn't know Hoop Dreams is on there. Definitely gonna check that out. Thanks for posting.

Something on Netflix that I just saw and rather enjoyed is Jim Jarmusch's Dead Man.

Makes no sense.

Why Netflix? Why?

The worst move will be when they block proxies. When that happens I'll consider cancelling.

In other news, Fringe is a lot darker than I was expecting...

Most likely pressure from studios. Lot of this stuff s for sale or on pay per view at the time that it leaks that the content is coming to streaming. The studios probably afraid that this deters ppl from spending money as they wait for the streams.

Somebody give me a random anime on instant to watch.

I've seen or am watching:

Soul Eater
D. Gray-Man
Darker Than Black
Full Metal Alchemist
Blood+
Elfin Lied
Samurai Champloo
Witchblade
Trinity Blood
Afro Samurai (both series)
Trigun

I think that is it.

This also explains why Instant Watcher took out their 'Coming Soon' section.

Everyone in this thread should email Netflix. This wouldn't be a big deal, if Netflix itself, provided users with what is coming to their service soon. Or even provided users with a section that actually reflected, what was being added to its service.

The biggest concern I have, is Netflix making another change down the line, rendering 'expiring', and 'just added' sections of other websites useless.

Edit- Just to clarify, the changes were announced a month ago, they have only recently taken into effect.

Well this fucking sucks.

-Religulous
-The Making of South Park: 6 Days to Air
-How Beer Saved the World
-The Invisible War
-Conan O'Brien Can't Stop
-Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price
-Bomb It

Netflix is blessed with a shit ton of amazing documentaries.

Yeah. What people don't understand is that they'll probably be able to bring in better content and strike better deals with studios after doing some of the things they're doing. Same with proxies, will hurt sales of movies that aren't available in EU if someone from EU can use a proxy to stream from the US.

Not saying its right, its just bigger than "man, netflix sucks, they're stupid and don't know what they're doing"

While I think you may be correct, after Qwikster it's hard for me to give them the benefit of that doubt.

Edit- So I know the majority of these will probably already have been up for quite some time, or known by the users in those country, but I wanted to show the US users what sort of content is out there. Just in case you were ever on the fence on using Un-block US or a similar service.

When does the Fringe (spoiler-ish)
alternate timeline
stuff kick in? Just a rough season/episode number would be nice.

Looking forward to see how they do it.

Are you wondering about
alternate timeline
or the
alternate universe
?

If it is the first spoiler, that comes in
at the beginning of season 4
. If it is the second, that is
end of season 1

And if you didn't see it, I made a lttp thread for it since it got added.

The Visioneers is a good movie. Zach Galifanakis is in it but, he's not in his usual role of Alan.

Finished Season 3 of Fringe and don't really want to continue after what I've read about Season 4. Good choice?

I've tried to start season four 3 times now and I still can't make it through the first episode. I'm not sure what that says about the quality of it but, I thought it should have ended at season three so I have a hard time getting into it.

While I think they made a mistake with where they went with the mythology of season 4, there are some really great standalone episodes in there. The criminal profiler one and the time bubble one in particular stand with the best the series has.

It's like the Netflix Spring lineup.

Those are the main three I'm going to focus on during the spring/summer days.

I'm actually still going through my re-watch How I Met Your Mother. I got through the Stella storyline so I think I'm through the worst of Ted.

At least as far as I can remember.
