Iwata to become Nintendo of America CEO, NoA CEO promoted to NCL Managing Director

I don't even know what to say. I have hopes this can only mean good things for Nintendo, though. Iwata just has a lot more experience and gravitas in the games industry and hopefully we'll see better output from NOA. Nintendo International is pretty horrid but NOA is just awful at this point.

I feel like NOA is getting better. This year, short of Band Bros and Tomodachi Collection everything seems to be coming out in the US within a month of Japan, if not earlier, as with DKCR3D & Zelda.
 
Many of his current responsibilities, including the CEO title, will be assumed by Global President Satoru Iwata. The move will support the company’s unified global strategy, allow streamlined decision making and enhance Nintendo's organizational agility in the current competitive environment.

I wish they would unify the whole European market under NoE. I want Club Nintendo to hit Scandinavia. :(
 
Less middle management between North America and Iwata seems like a good thing. Hopefully this means NoA employees will actually have some influence over Iwata's decision-making.

Indeed. I can't believe this sort of country-specific limitations keep happening in a global world, and especially within EU where customers are supposedly as equal as possible.
 
I figured his heralding of the Wii/DS years would safeguard him from early retirement for at least another year, but I honestly wasn't expecting him to add to his title.

This addition is unexpected, but him staying as prez is not. They were able to resell a refurbished GameCube with a new controller for a higher asking price than the GCN itself. And have nearly hit 100 million units with it. Eclipsing their last market leading home console by around 30 million units.

I mean some years there they were making 8-9 times what they lost last year. That loss had to hurt his standing, but it was completely overstated.

Now the WiiU situation? That could bite him in the ass if it doesn't play out right.

You're throwing middle management under the bus when a lot of them are implementing policies from the bottom up that are helping Nintendo's business interests. Lets not forget Zach Fountain, who is overseeing Nintendo's strategic entertainment partnerships as well (Nintendo TVii, Youtube). Marketing does not equal the rest of the company.
 
By the way, something to keep in mind.

When Cammie Dunaway resigned, Reggie himself oversaw Marketing while doing his COO duties until Scott Moffitt was hired. This could be a similar situation where Iwata assumes this role until a new CEO is brought in.

In my opinion, this changes things completely if Iwata himself relocates to Redmond.
 
To be honest if this leads to simultaneous releases for titles like X, then that's definitely great news.
 
So Iwata has an out, and Nintendo can train his replacement now already once Iwata is relieved of his duties as CEO in the future?

I'm not expecting this, but this would mean HUGE changes in Nintendo corporate philosophy. I really think they try to be more balanced between Japan and West, they know this is a big problem they have nowadays. But They're so deeply rooted in Japan that they can't even conceive to rule the company from outside the country.
The move Sony did to present the PS4 in New York ashamed somehow SCEJ.
 
I didn't even know NoA had someone above Reggie so I assume that Iwata taking over the worst handled Nintendo region can only be a good thing.

Iwata says he'll resign if shit doesn't get better.

Nintendo announces quite the loss at 18.7 billion Yen and the Wii U is still selling like bottom barrel shit.

Iwata gets promoted.

Because there are no westerners that could possibly be talented or smart enough to do this job. The mighty Iwata will instead do it himself.

So when the WiiU fails to improve, especially outside of Japan, things are going to be doubly on his hands.
