I'm feeling pretty good about myself right now - at least one of my votes made it through each round, and Eliza ended up winning the vote. I didn't even like Eliza all that much in the beginning, but the posts that her supporters made in this thread were very, very convincing
It's a real slog going through all the upset posts on other sites, though. It's like walking through Salar de Uyuni -
That would be an excellent technique for any combatant to use
I believe that Lab Zero has a lot of leeway with Beowulf's design, actually. Think of it this way; if Cerebella is a traditional grappler, then Beowulf can act as the embodiment of the more eclectic throw mechanics that have appeared in other fighting games. When I think of the moves that could be given to Beowulf, I envision that he would have a style that's similar to characters like Blue Mary (specifically, from Real Bout 2), Orochi Yashiro, or Rainbow Mika (the latter half of this video is just V-ism shenannigans, so feel free to ignore that); hit throws, catch throws, counters and other special moves that have less emphasis on dealing out big damage, and more emphasis on placing the opponent at certain parts of the screen in a disadvantageous state. Heck, R. Mika's even in his list of character inspirations, so I feel like they're on the same wavelength that I am.
He wouldn't need to have command throws, either. His moves could place the opponent in different hit states, pick them up from the ground, etc., and their stats and effects could change based on whether he has The Hurting in hand, set up on the screen or laying flat on the ground, and whether or not he's throwing them into The Hurting himself.
And even if the dev team used other ideas or decided to downplay his wrassin' side, there's still other styles that they could use for him. After all, he's an older gentleman, and his body's got to be worn after a long career in the ring. He could be the type of character that fights with their head first and their muscles second - one that's based on making good reads against your opponent and capitalizing on it. Granted, that sort of style could be given to other characters that didn't make the cut in the first vote, but I think that there's only a few other characters that could gel with said style.
I know that this post is a bit on the long side, but Lab Zero won a lot of faith from me after they made Cerebella, and I feel like they could do wonders with Beowulf as well. I mean, look at what they did with Cerebella - instead of just giving her two good command grabs and a bunch of terrible normal moves to balance it out, they gave her a solid, unique moveset that actually takes advantage of the game's fundamental mechanics, one which makes her just as viable as the other characters on the roster. She's actually fun to play with, and every match feels like it starts on even footing instead of an uphill climb. Lab Zero understands grapplers, and I would absolutely love to see them try to make an unorthodox grappler as well.
Them listing 'not Kanji' as one of the inspirations for his gameplay gives me pause, because I thought he was terrible - but they could ignore that! (please ignore that)

- salt as far as the eye can see, and anger that burns hotter than the sun.
Everything seems to indicate him being a grappler, so copies of characters seems boring. At least, if we're going to make sense of him being a wrestler.
Unless he's this kind of wrestler: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyEveyeXRaU
