BTW I thought I'd ask, did 3.33 have any differences to 3.0? The runtime was the same if I remember correctly. Also without spoiling, was the Ghibli short good?

if I'm not mistaken she said she cannot pilot Eva 01, not any Eva

If it was EVA 01 specific they could have said 01's eva plug is broken or eva 01's the
bloody wunder's core
, so if you take that out we'll all fall down to earth or hey EVA 01's kinda busted now lol sorry bro.

The point is that was never case,
they wanted Shinji off any EVAs, so they had to really neutered Shinji or they are telling a lie
, which was never really communicated in anyway in the movie. It's all up to speculation and that's bad story writing.

the ghibli short is.. just a short, it's a puppeteer short similar to those sentai shows. It's cool i guess, it talks about the giant warrior god from Nausicaa it ran for about 10minutes.

Thanks, I look forward to seeing it! Super hyped amongst the negative comments. I mean this is Eva after all, the series the prompted people to post death threats to the studio after the original ending which I actually loved! I'm betting I'm gonna love 3.33.

3.33 is identical to 3.0; no new scenes, though there may have been some animation touch ups here and there.

Expressions throughout the movies:

Eva 1.11 - :) :) :)
Eva 2.22 - :) :O :D
Eva 3.33 - :) :O :| :( >:(

Hate how useless they made Shinji be. He was sorta there for the ride, almost like a side character.

I can't wait for the next one. If there's something 3.33 does, is leave one hungry for the conclusion (and hopeful).

He went to go save Aynami in 2.22 and then ended up causing the Third Impact without his knowledge. You are adults. You have a right to be angry with how things turned out. Hell, I'd be angry too. To vent it on someone who was technically responsible but didn't mean to cause the Third Impact with all of its atrocities is another thing. I think it's easy to pin the blame and target on Shinji. I feel extremely sorry for him because he was trying to do something right and ended up getting shafted for it. Misato and Asuka as a result suck in this movie. I'm sure others will disagree and try to rationalize their behavior. I have too. I understand their point. Doesn't mean I have to like it though.

this is one of the things that bugged me the most. it's been a while since i've watched 2.22 but i specifically recall Misato even encouraging Shinji to let lose in Eva-01, despite everyone else (Ritsuko iirc) saying there would be severe consequences. they told shinji to fight for what was his rather than just listen to orders... misato is almost equally blamable.

If you're feeling mixed, I would garner to say it was more bad than good.

Didn't expect any of that at all... but I guess thats what makes Evangelion, well.. Evangelion?
Cant say I hate it though.

Also, dat intro.

Good lord, that 4.0 preview looks awful.

It's a much quicker turnaround than the last two movies were.

Yup I was very surprised. I hope that means Funi kick it into high gear! lol :(

It would have taken a lot more than a few extra minutes to fix this movie.

I was thinking that would be the case when writing that, but I haven't seen it yet so I don't know how broken the thing is lol. I really hope it's good, I'm just too hyped.

Man all this hate, I guess I'm one of the few who really enjoyed it. I watched it for the second time today and noticed certain details I didn't catch the first time around and actually enjoyed it a lot more knowing what was going to happen. I liked it more than 2.22 definitely.

I don't actually hate 3.33. I'm mostly just sad of what could have been. I have laundry list of things I wish they'd shown after I saw the film. I'll spoiler-tagged them but let me know if I should just edit it and take it to spoiler thread for better discussions:

* What happened in between Shinji saving Rei and Kaworu chucking the spear?

* 3rd impact in general. How did it look? Who were the casualties? How did those who survived managed to get away?

* How did Misato and the others formed WillE? Did they just go to Gendou and went "You ass! We quit and we're taking your equipment!" Was there any firefight? Any resistance from SEELE? It looks like WillE got a bunch of military ships and planes on the deal. How did that happened?"

* Who are those new pilot recruits? What were their background? How did they join? The older guy seems to know Kaji but how?

* What happened to Rei II? Obviously Gendou consider her a collateral because they wouldn't awaken Rei III otherwise.

* How does NERV/SEELE operate now? Who's helping them? The HQ looks empty and deserted.

* What happened to Mark 7 to 12? Are they the MP Evas we never get to see?

* What's left of humanities? Are there more people alive apart from the travelling flying group of Wunder? Or are they trying to suggest that Wunder is essentially the new Noah's Ark?

anyone else feels that aspect of ratio the movie is kinda bad? I mean it's like some/many of the scenes would look better in 16:9, in many scenes foreground object/characters that are in focus are out of frame, it's almost like it was cropped, in intro scene for example with all the fast movements and narrow view with stuff out of it quite often, it's kinda hard to follow. the other 2 movies are in 16:9 as well, it's kinda odd switching with this one.

i actually kinda liked this aspect ratio. Also, I think overall 3.33 looked better than the previous 2 movies. its just too bad that the previous two movies didnt have this animation/visual quality. I feel.

Why Evangelion 3.33 sucks

- It's not a film, it's a fan fiction circlejerk with pretty images and sound
- There is no cohesion or pacing, it's a sequence of scenes packed together to present certain vague narrative points and makes no attempt to actually tell a story or develop characters
- It feels like a 95 minute intro movie of a videogame which doesn't exist (yet?)
- It throws away everything developed by the previous two films just to try something "different", except that different thing is much worse
- It's stupid
- It's boring
- I hate Anno
- I hate Khara

:(

That sounds about right, yeah. But lets face it, it was mainly those damn chins.

I feel really strange attacking an Evangelion film after being such a big defender of the original work, the role-reversal some rather worrying things about original arguments.

Finally watched it, and I dunno, nothing really happened? I mean it just kinda trucked along. Maybe it was because I read some of the spoilers, but it just felt like it was always in the build up and it just never climaxed. I found myself always waiting for it to pick up and go.
It looked pretty in some parts, but I found the CG stuck out more than the other two movies.
Asuka and Mari were my favorite parts. Asuka was appropriately insane.

I hope 4.0 is going to be as bonkers as EoE.

Holy fuck that was amazing. If you have the setup for it I highly recommend watching it in 5.1 surround, the audio in this movie was fucking amazing. Well worth it. Had it outputting through my rMBP's HDMI port, had to fix the channel configuration though because by default VLC switches the the front left and right channels with the rears. So fucking annoying.

When I first saw the movie in theaters, I was awed by the big-screen cinema-sound spectacle of it all, and it was interesting when I didn't have much idea of what to expect. It was a big departure from the expected, and I appreciated that in itself a lot. The early parts of the film, where
Shinji and the audience are bewildered about the state of the world, ignorant and powerless
, struck me as a brave choice.

But when I look back on it, on Shinji's relationship with Kaworu, the plot and the way the characters are handled, I can't help but wonder what the point was. Sure, it's neat to surprise your audience, but that alone doesn't mean anything. I don't think I learned anything significant about the characters or their world.

As bold as it is with the setting, everything else is safe. It's surprising without being challenging. That's why it faded from my memory pretty quickly after I first saw it.

Sounds like shitty storyboarding.

If anything, the renewed interest and money printing over these movies could motivate them to redo the TV series with modern technology. Which would be wonderful.

I thought your sentence was going to end with "release the original on BD", which I'm sure is something they're planning to do once they've tidied the Rebuild franchise away and made as much money from it as possible.

I can't imagine what a literal retreading of the TV series would add. Shot for shot remakes don't really serve any purpose, except that, in the case, the mechanical animation would get far worse.

Watched it on my HDTV, I wasn't mad at the 2.35:1 aspect ratio myself.

I watched the movie a while back and this is pretty much what I thought of it. I was extremely disappointed with how this movie was presented. Ugh.
