New GTA V Trailers "MICHAEL. FRANKLIN. TREVOR."

I feel Micheal's story is going to be similar to married with children. "Miiiichael, lets have seeex", "eeeh not tonight".
While I love me some Al Bundy, Michael and his wife despise each other by the time GTA V starts, so I don't think Michael is getting much at home.

The sales and massive following suggest otherwise. No other open world game is better at such parody.

Kind of cool how they took on 3 different aspects of crime
-High Risk bank robberies in rich areas
-Gangbanging in Inner City
-Meth slinging in the backwoods

Mafia makes for much better storytelling than gangbanging. Take The Godfather vs Boyz in the Hood. Not exactly in the same league. Or Goodfellas vs Menace 2 Society. Or the Sopranos. Or Boardwalk Empire. There's just more depth to explore in organized crime. Note "gangbanging" does not mean "black". You could make an excellent story about black organized crime as well. Maybe American Gangster (haven't seen that yet)?

That said, gangbanging seems to lend itself better to videogames. San Andreas is the best GTA as far as I'm concerned. So although Franklin himself might not be an interesting character, his story might be extremely fun to play.

Prominent gangs are large criminal organizations though. The only difference between the mafia and gangbangers is that the term "gangbanger" is more commonly associated with racial minorities, and that the mafia has been effectively romanticized by movies like The Godfather. That said, there is nothing about the mafia that lends itself to "better storytelling" than gangbanging. That doesn't even make sense.

Some people don't enjoy the gangbanger thing, OMG RACIST!!!

They enjoy the old school mafia thing, OMG MAKES NO SENSE!!!

Just opinions, people are just trying to push that racist shit out of the way. Has nothing to do with that.

I guess, like always, I'm really anticipating the small details. The different outfits, variety of safe houses, and the weather.

September can't come soon enough.

You talk about Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire, yet conveniently leave out The Wire which is considered by many to be one of the best television shows of all time?

And under your definition, City of God would be a Hood film (and it is), and it stands toe to toe with the best of cinema. And Menace 2 Society, Boyz in the Hood, Fresh, Training Day, Sin Nombre, La Haine, Clockers, etc. are all wonderful Hood films. I honestly don't understand your position. You're suggesting that the Italian Mafia subject matter deserves credence for The Godfather and Goodfellas being GREAT films, and not the fact that two of the best directors of all time happened to direct them?

I don't think the satire was quite as clever in GTAIV, but in some of the earlier games it was absolutely dead on. You shouldn't judge the whole franchise by IV.

Crazy is it sounds, it's the bolded I'm really excited about. Weather in RDR made that game shine like no other game. Just standing there, hearing the distant thunder and the grey clouds slowly moving in and next, you had the most atmospheric thunderstorm I've ever seen in a game. If they can capture that in a GTA game ... I might cry.

my usual GTA Cycle begins. The trailers look awesome the game seems like so much fun in my head, you can do everything man. Then it comes out, i buy it, steal a car, shoot a guy and get bored.

I have no reason to take you seriously unless you can come up with an open world game that does parodies better.

GTA even parodies the internet, and it does a pretty good job of it.

Also I have the America's Next Top Hooker ringtone so screw you lol.

Franklin's friend seems more like the cliche gang banger. Franklin basically wants to avoid exactly that and I'd assume will do so once the main storyline kicks off and he joins up with Michael and Trevor.

All three look pretty great, Rockstar knows how to do trailers.

On the surface of it Franklin's story almost seems like a rehash of Carl's, except in San Andreas it was Carl getting back into it and getting respect. It seems like everybody is telling Franklin in that trailer that he isn't doing it the way they want him to, so I think they are going in a different direction. Damn at the nostalgia vibes creeping in with some of those shots though.

I could see how you could be suspicious of the game matching up to what the trailer presented, but I don't see how this can't be good.

Didn't even think of the different threads we see in the trailer. Multiple outfits in there for all three characters.

Like every GTA game, my guys will be decked out in the dopest expensive suits.

I also wonder if all three will start out with their own safe house. Like the mansion for Michael. Hopefully with some sweet vehicle spawns in his driveway.

Just because they do it better than the rest of their genre doesn't mean they do it well. Grand Theft Auto is to Saints Row as Scary Movie 1 and 2 are to Epic Movie.

Their shit might be better, but it's not saying a whole lot for the genre as a whole.

I'm happy with GTA V ending the current round of consoles.

Now I need Mafia III to bring in the next round of consoles.

I don't know what to tell you. Since the the 1970's through this very day mafia stories have been far and away better than gangbanger stories. So either it lends itself better to storytelling or no one has been able to create a truly great gangbanger story in the past 40 years. It's not like there haven't been a ton of gangbanger stories made.

Point me to one if it exists and I will glady watch/read it. I have watched The Wire but that is at least as much a police show as it is a gangbanger show.

People buy GTA to walk around a city causing chaos and have fun. I know when I discuss GTA with my friends we don't mention how great of a parody/satire it is of U.S. life.

This post makes too much sense.
