GAF Wii Homebrew thread: Homebrew, emulators, USB disc installs! Easy tutorial!

Wait, now you can put GC games into an external HD?

Please tutorial link.

I've been away from the Wii scene for quite a while, this would me a great reason to dust it off.

I'm on my cell, so can't search on my own.

Appreciate it.

Well my whole things are now on my Wii U (sans Sim City :( ) but I noticed something even before I did the whole process, none of my VC games will start on my Wii, I guess it's even more messed up than I thought. I would just try upgrading to 4.3E but the whole thing about losing BootMii scares me...

You can rip your GC and Wii discs with either CFG or USB loader GX. I now use the latter. I start the loader and then i insert my GC or Wii game disc in the Wii drive. Then i get an oprion from the loader to boot or rip the disc, and where to (SDHC or USB). That's it.

Other than that, you can use Clean Rip 1.05 homebrew app for GC rips.

Guys, I finally got around to the latest instructions etc, but my system is still too sketchy.

Ripped Wii Sports, never boots. Ripped WW Smooth Moves, it worked a couple of times, but mostly it just hangs, like Wii Sports.

This screen just freezes:

I'm thinking of re-formatting the HDD, but part of me believes that maybe OSX isn't best suited for that. Any thoughts?

It sounds like either an IOS issue, or a bad rip. You can use WBFS or FAT32 filesystem. The latter is ofcourse much more prefferable.

IS there an easy way to convert a wfms drive to fat32 without reripping all my games?

wbfs2fat-py is all you need

Are there any potential problems with installing and using homebrew on a Korean Wii? There's one being sold near me and I'm considering getting it a replacement. It supposedly already has homebrew, too.

I got to the bottom of it (btw I use FAT32).

The thing works, which is great. Thanks GAF. I was under the wrong impression that some games worked, some didn't. False.

The real problem is... it doesn't work all the time.

Real weird and random. There's no clear pattern. I can get lucky or not. Turn on Wii -> CFG USB loader -> choose game -> If text starts coming down in 1 second, the game will boot. And it will play perfectly.

If not, then the system will hang, I gotta manually reset the console and try again. Much like the old cartridge shit, except I can't blow the HDD.

Dunno what to do. It can work 2, 3 times, then it won't for other 2 or 3 times, maybe 5, then it works, then it doesn't. Chaos theory at its best.

wtf

Did you try using a different loader like WiiFlow? Until my Wi-Fi module got toast, I got some weird errors in CFG error too with my Super Mario Galaxy backup, but it worked every time in WiiFlow.

I haven't yet but I can. However does it work with the same IOS thingamajig? I know how to install shit but I still can't comprehend the first thing about IOSes, so I would rather not mess with that, as my current setup works... sometimes.

Did your HDD use to work flawlessly before? There are harddisks and USB enclosures which don't work reliable with specific IOSes. Had an issue like that and had to use the alternative IOSes (Hermes instead d2x) as the ones suggested would randomly hang and cause other oddities with my specific HDD.

No, this is the first time I'm using this HDD for USB loading.

I'll check out Hermes when I get home. Not sure if I installed it or not.

Now I'm pretty sure I haven't.

I will follow these steps, but, having the thing up and running already, can I do it without having to install CFG again? Do I have to follow the IOS224 step even though I already did something to the XML file?

Check the cable between the usb port and the hard drive. Bad cables are my number one issue.

The tutorial actually has a full page dedicated to WBFS to FAT transfers...

And as for the other questions about switching to Hermes' loader, you don't need to install anything again. Just edit the xml (it you want all your games to use it) and go.

However, the primary cause of drives only sometimes working is spindown. If you can find a way to disable power saving options on your drive, that might solve all issues.

I'm trying to install IOS 236 http://gwht.wikidot.com/ios236 and as soon as it boots, the remote shuts off and won't turn back on. Thus, I cannot press "1" so it won't install. Any workarounds? It's a newer NSMB Wii bundle w/ MP.

found a recompiled version that worked.

I am having trouble getting CFG Loader to rip any GCN game. Whenever I try to rip it to my hard drive it leads to what looks like a black command screen and tells me it will reboot in 60 seconds. Is there any way to fix this problem?

Does anyone know if it is possible to play Virtual Console backups? I transfered the licenses to my Wii U before softmodding the Wii (incase I screwed it up somehow, as well as to take advantage of the gamepad for some titles I want to play off screen) but there are some games I wouldn't mind still playing on the old console (which is hooked up to a CRT).

Googling around has not returned anything yet, didn't know if someone here knows.

It is, but you probably aren't going to find the methods to do so from this thread as it's the exact same method used to pirate said games.

Thanks very much for the reply, I know this kind of thing is a bit of a grey area on this board. I will continue with my search.

Spent almost 2 nights (till 1AM and the next day have to get up at 6:30 to go to work) to find the thing regarding MIOS DIOS, but I can finally play the GC games from my usb harddisk (I have to transfered the ripped iso from sd to the harddisk though)

I hope some one from GAF can help me out with my problem:
I used USB Loader GX 3.0, and I wanted to rip my GC game to my USB harddisk (Formatted as FAT32 with 32k size). The loader recognizes my harddisk.
The loader ripped the game to my SD card instead of my USB harddisk, and I have checked the settings but not able to find something.
Question what did I do wrong?

I've been trying to download the Wii U Transfer Tool on my launch Wii for months now but everytime I try to do it I get the 204058 error code. Can anyone here help me fix this, please?

So, I'm having problems getting GCN games to run with CFG. I'm on version 70r51 of CFG and I have 2.2+ Dios Mios installed (version 2.8 to be exact, installed on both IOS248 and IOS236). I went through and installed d2x on IOS248 and IOS247 and properly edited the Meta.XML file to use 248 for CFG. I used the little tool in the Dios Mios folder to properly package the GCN games and put them on my USB drive which is FAT32 with 32KB cluster size, and it's the only partition on the drive. Whenever I try booting up a game, CFG immediately goes to a black screen.

Edit: Nevermind, I figured it out. Updating to DiosMios 2.9 got things working

Have you tried 2.10? I'm trying to play luigi's mansion and it just stays black after booting the game. When it says any disk in the drive, does that include a wii disk?

I've been trying and trying and trying to get the Classic Controller mod for DKCR to work for over an hour now. Downloaded it from Pixlbit and followed Stump's instructions here, activated Ocarina within the game's separate options menu, and attempted to boot it up. I keep getting a black screen and I have to hard reset it every time. Anybody got a clue? My Google-fu fails me on this.

EDIT: Never mind, I was using the wrong version. I own a v1 copy apparently.

I ordered replacements for both my bluetooth and wi-fi modules just in case. It's just 15 dollars with free shipping from Hong Kong, hopefully it arrives here in reasonable time. After that, we'll see if I'm able to fix my Wii.

Retroarch 0.9.9.1 Wii is out for a few days now. Two important additions:

1. In addition to existing cores (FBA, Neo Geo, CPS1, CPS2, Doom, SNES, NES, Sega Genesis /CD/MS/GG/SG1000, PCE/PCE CD, GBA/GB/GBC, NGP/NGPC, WonderSwan/WSC) there is also a new core TyrQuake for Quake 1 and a core for Cave Story (NX Engine).

2. SNES core allows for FX chip overclocking up to 100Mhz. What does this mean? It means that games like Starfox should be really playable now. Example (not from RA but you get the point):

So I'm trying to do the Wii -> WiiU transfer with zero results. Right away, when trying to do the system update, the first error code I received was the 32007. Looking around, I saw that if you go into priiloader, disable the, if I remember correctly, internet updates and something that has to do with the disc, can't remember. Anyway, it worked.

However, once I tried doing the system update again, I see the status screen with a tiny sliver of it being downloaded, then it stops and I get error code 32004. Now I've tried Nintendo's advice on what they had on their website. Tried with setting my router to channel 1 and 11 and still get the same results. It can connect to the internet, but just can't do the system update. Is there something else I need to do with Priiloader or in Homebrew settings?

Hello everyone,

I am trying to finally do my wii to wii u transfer. My wii is currently homebrewed, on 4.2. It was installed using instructions from the gaf brew wiki. I can't access the shop. I don't have ios 62 installed. I have dop-shop, but I suspect that without 62 it will not work.

Unfortunately, hackmii.com / bootmi.org seems down.

I am tempted to just update to 4.3 (is this going to brick the wii?), transfer, and wait for hackmii to come back online to re-jailbreak the wii (is this possible?)

I just got back into the Wii homebrew scene a bit and notice there are some custom mods for New Super Mario Bros such as Summer Sun and Newer Super Mario Bros. I think there was another about 20 days till the end or something.

Are there a lot of these? Is there a website that lists some? Would love to collect them.

Any help much appreciated!

I just saw the newer super Mario announcement on Twitter, it looks really cool. I'd love to see some more these anybody has link or two!

I got tired of hackmii being down (is jailbreaking your wii impossible with the site down?) so i decided to simply update 4.2 to 4.3 my jailbroken wii. I nearly only use the HBC to load my wii games from usb, but I have the disks, so in the worst case it's just a loss of convenience.

So I update to 4.3 using the nintendo channel, restart, and lo and behold, the HBC still works. I tried configurable USB loader, and it loads my games without any hiccups.

Is that even normal? I realize that updating stopped bricking wiis, but the point of leaving HBC alone, I was very pleasantly surprised.

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but I've been out of the loop for a while.

Does DiosMios support streaming audio yet?

Have there been any notable developments in Wii Homebrew and CFG USB Loader in the last year?

I think it's now possible to run USBloader on the WiiU. Will the homebrew guide be updated for this? I'd rather go through a trusted guide (like gafs) than some shady sites to get this up and running...
