I'm guessing a lot of you guys also think that Microsoft is going to make Gold more akin to PS+, right? I bet that the two meet in the middle; multiplayer requires a pass (PS+) on PS4 and Nextbox incorporates some of PS+'s benefits like free games.
lmao are you joking ?

junior,
there is fierce competition this time. PS4 is virtually like a PC and if MS hasnt really changed x720's HW then the disparity between the 2 would be visible at launch, which will influence consumer's purchase decisions

Hardware, which I'm sure will be adequate, is not what I'm looking forward to (well, I am, but I'm sure it'll be fine).
I'm really excited to see the software side. UI, features, that's where the magic is. That's what you look at every day. MS is bringing all their worlds together, and I get the feeling that the next Xbox is the final piece of that puzzle.
16 days!

This is what I've been looking forward to the whole time.
Games shames. All consoles have more than enough great games over their life cycle to warrant a backlog for most. It's the OS that snares it for me. Microsoft won me over with their OS and Live integration. I really really really hope the new Xbox has Air Play like functionality with Windows Phone 8.

I think the 360 does already through Smart Glass, if I'm not mistaken.

Nope. Given their history, what I think they'll do is make one XBL license work for everyone on one Xbox (ie. the reason they killed off the current family pack). If they add any value to it, it will be in the form of media content from the new studio they opened. They'll continue to offer nice discounts to XBL members, but I don't see them using it as a game rental service ala PSN+. I also don't see PSN+ continuing in its same for next gen.
If I was Microsoft, I'd let Silver members play online, and nothing else. Keep the rest as is. Except maybe IE and YouTube.
Then I'd take a cue from PS Plus and put up a rotation of 3 arcade games every month that Gold members can pick from to keep for free. Not rent, but actually keep even if your gold lapses.
Then once every 6 months, do the same for a full retail digital game. Then of course whatever new stuff they come up with keep behind gold. I fully expect Sony to charge for multiplayer this time around. I know most refuse to believe it will happen, but the signs point to it happening. Sony's silence on the matter being the most telling one.

When has MS ever offered nice discounts to XBL members?
Are you being serious?
Do you own a 360?

wut? seriously? they have offer recently great deals. the skyrim DLC was cheaper then it has ever been on steam. When has MS ever offered nice discounts to XBL members?
I'm serious. Spring sales? Or forcing you to buy all 4 summer of arcade games to get the 4th one free even if 2 of them could be pants? Hardly discounts more like making you spend more like buy 2 get 3rd free at supermarket. You do not need a sub for that either anyway. Are you being serious?

Well, in Boco's defense, without Xbox Live you basically can't do ANYTHING network related. To even be able to use most of Xbox 360's capabilities you need Xbox Live. If I'm not mistaken, you can't make purchases of any kind without being connected to the service, so its not like you get an added "benefit" of discounts, since non-Live members can't even purchase the items whether they're full price or discounted.
No no, I mean like Air Play. I want it to mirror my Lumias screen. Like the Apple TV does with the iPhone and iPad. Smart glass is a companion app. Bit different.

Bacon, welcome back. and be good.
Nice to see Baconsammy back!
You can have a Silver account and still be able to download XBLA games, demos etc...

Is this sarcasm too?
No need to be a jackass. That's why I said "if I'm not mistaken" since I wasn't 100% certain.
Couple months ago I have bought Max Payne 3,Batman Arkham Asylum,Dirt 2,Grid,MGS Collection,L4D2,Resident Evil Code Veronica and Resident Evil 6 for about $50.Pretty good deal if you ask me.
There are some really good weekly sales too.Biggest problem is that sometimes they are not advertised properly and it's easy to miss it.
The latest one (that you apparently missed) had some great GoD on sale. I picked up El Shaddai for $3 and Dead Island for $10. Some other stuff too. Lots of great deals, sorry you missed it.
I wasn't being a jackass, honestly. I can't tell if you're serious. You can't do anything on PSN, Steam, or XBL if you're not connected to it. A silver member is still connected to XBL, and are free to buy anything they want to. They just cant get the discounts that Gold members are offered. They're also free to make XBL purchases via the web interface. The reason I thought you were possibly joking is that obviously you can't buy something from a service you're not connected to.
Really? They are having big AAA games for $5 each and they aren't advertising this anywhere and nobody talks about it?
What. I don't buy that...

To be fair this sale was pretty big and sales that big aren't common but that doesn't change the fact that it was real and took place on XBL.
Gotcha. I never really considered Xbox Live Silver to be a "service", which was why I always figured users without Live Gold were shut out from practically all purchase-related services.

Oh, AirPlay Mirroring. I thought you just meant AirPlay.
Do you have to be a gold member for these sales though? Also although cool, I don't really pay attention to sales as I just buy games on release if I want to play them.To be fair this sale was pretty big and sales that big aren't common but that doesn't change the fact that it was real and took place on XBL.
Hmmm ok. I still have a hard time believing all those games were $5 a piece... but, if you say so!
EDIT: Ahw I found it; http://majornelson.com/2013/03/03/xbox-live-ultimate-game-sale-day-6/
Not as good as you said, but still pretty good. Is this a usual occurrence or a one-time thing?
