I expect Ubisoft to have all their games always-online with U-Play, at least to start.
Not sure why Paul Thurrott is getting so much flak here as some kind of untrustworthy source. Over the past few years, he has been spot on almost everytime when it came to Windows/Microsoft products. He is also dedicated to covering all things Microsoft as a journalist.
Sure he might not have wanted to commit to what always online meant, but he said himself he was basing that off documentation.
You realize he's one of the most respected tech journos around right?

lol
Some people will still insist that it needs to be online, don't worry.
Ubi has already dropped always online and I can't see EA trying it again. I'm sure that there will be network features through Uplay and Origin but I doubt they'll do DRM.
Ah, yeah, thanks Microsoft.
Wait, no. They don't deserve credit for this. Bullshit.
This is only because literally every bit of information we have seen says this lol.
The very specific language of this email is odd. I mean why not just come out and say there is no always online Sony did this right away. Why all the obfuscation by Microsoft?
Oh cool, can you show me the press release
Or even any evidence
I don't know what to believe anymore. We all should just wait and hope this shit gets cleared up on the 21st
oh come on, I WANT to be upset. Just let me be upsetyou are aware that nothing was officially announced either way? They did not add or remove anything

Personally Im skeptical of any site but articles do warrant discussion.

Excellent news.
Now bring on the games.![]()
The thread growing speed is slow as I expected.
There is a reason more specific leaks haven't come from Microsoft yet, they're controlling information very tightly.
Also, you can accuse Microsoft of many things, but being ahead of damaging rumors they have never.
Of course, the existence of such a mass e-mail implies that this is a recent change in policy. My work never sends an e-mail to everyone to say, "Just FYI, the policy we've had this whole time is still the policy. Keep doing what you've been doing."
Why need a press release to counteract a rumor made or interpreted incorrectly / intentionally by some insiders ?
Good news.
Although rumor probably should be put in the title
How can a console be "Always online" if it isn't really required to be "always online".
The machine works, but who said the games will.
I guess it's more of them staying resilient against anti-consumer yet successful practices, namely on he PC. I'm not sure if it was an imminent threat but there was a scare considering gamers at large proved they didn't give a fuck if something was always online; if they wanted the game, they'd get it.Exactly. Them continuing with the status quo isn't worth praising.
I'm curious. Why are you thanking Microsoft and for what bullshit is credit being established?Ah, yeah, thanks Microsoft.
Wait, no. They don't deserve credit for this. Bullshit.
Same thing with the 'internal memos' during the whole Sim City mess. That email really is written like a press release.
Yay for us, though!
