Capcom killed the Vita and I will never forgive them for it.
It's not like Capcom released much on Vita with only Monster Hunter being the only noticeable franchise missing. They released practically nothing on the platform with Monster Hunter being the biggest omission. The joke of a response that Capcom issued to those wondering why Revelations HD wasn't on Vita really did define their feelings towards the platform.
I've realized that ~70% of my Vita frustration right now is because of Capcom. The
coke arcade whore in me would do anything for more
good action titles beyond what we have access to already.
"Vita-drenaline" status for me right now:
Fighting Games ★★★☆
We have a few franchises worth playing, but there are still too many omissions. The Vita is capable of representing so much more, even many older titles that the PSP could run flawlessly. Capcom, Sega, Namco Bandai, and SNK Playmore need to wake the fuck up.
2D Action/Platformers ★★☆☆
The PSP catalog is pretty much the only thing actually carrying this category barring a few other releases that either feel disposable or have only just been announced. I'd love for Muramasa to be some be-all, end-all, but I don't think it's possible for anyone's standards to be that low. Where is my MMX Collection, Capcom? My Zero Collection? Strider? And where has Konami locked IGA away?
Bullet Heaven/Danmaku Shmups ☆☆☆☆
Where is CAVE? That Akai Katana thing turned out to be a unicorn, and their 360/XBLA/iOS support (or lack thereof overseas) shows no sign of Vita. You can have your Velocities, Sine Moras, Super Stardusts; just give me anything from CAVE or 8ing or some other developer who actually took the time to tune their shit properly. To tie it back to Capcom, Giga Wing, anyone? Mars Matrix? No?
Rhythm Games ★☆☆☆
There are literally only like two genuinely good ones on the system right now. The rest are merely passable (or worse), but the biggest tragedy is that it's slim pickings coming off the PSP which did an admirable job representing this genre. You could go to any
dying arcade and still play more there than what the Vita has access to right now.
Arcade-Style Puzzle Games ☆☆☆☆
We don't even have a real Puyo Puyo game for goodness' sake. The Vita is a desert for flashy, loud, score-based tile-matching. So many PSN/XBLA releases that already exist could easily fill this void, including Puzzle Fighter.
Beat 'Em Ups ☆☆☆☆
Dragon's Crown will change this depending on how good it is, but why aren't the D&D games coming to Vita, too, Capcom? And, Treasure, will Guardian Heroes ever even come to PSN? Why are you guys letting indies screw up this genre you perfected so many years ago?
Racers ★☆☆☆
All we have are 30fps installments of mediocre to average racing franchises or poorly-handled incarnations/ports of better ones. The same story applies to any PSP racers that came out, too (Crazy Taxi), but it's even worse because some of them are either totally gone (OutRun) or unavailable on the US PSN (RR2). And, really, how hard is it to port the Xbox version of Burnout 3: Takedown with integrated custom soundtrack support?
Most (though not all) 3D "action" games on Vita right now are also either imaginary, underwhelming, or come from the PSP catalog. What about RE4 HD, Capcom? That DMC collection? Hm? Hmm??? When an audience is begging you to
at least be lazy and port stuff, something's up.
I'm getting tired of all this potential without actualization. Gurrrl, Monster Hunter is just the
tip of the iceberg for me, though it'd still be pretty important for sales.
edit:
@branny you forgot about first person shooters. The Vita's analog sticks would've been a blessing to FPS on the go, but so far we've only had 3 games, and they've all turned out to be shit. Maybe that Killzone will turn out good, but personally I think Killzone is crap to begin with so I'm not holding my breath.
I wish id Software would release classic Doom on the Vita, it would be the only FPS I ever need. But I'm pretty sure the Vita is not even on their radar, they're too busy with iOS games with shitty touch controls.
Ohh, FPS, sure! I practically grew up in arcades, though, so I never became particularly attached to that genre unless it's you count light gun stuff like House of the Dead or Time Crisis, lol. We could use more everything on Vita, honestly.
