Giant Bomb Thread #4: A thread of perceived slights

Eesh, Patrick really flubbed up almost every puzzle moment in the Yoshi's Island video.

Ironically he isn't wrong about the game following a similar convention as Bust A Move for its egg-throwing in the video, but when pitted against a moment that required using that wall bouncing egg opportunity to snag a collectible, he convinced himself to try some of the most ill-conceived and audacious methods to do so(risk life and limb to kill the enemy that is actually part of the solution).

One on hand its fascinating to watch him completely miss the obvious solution(and barely succeed once when doing it wrong), but mostly it created some serious face-palming moments. More evidence as to why developers really do try to spell out solutions more obviously these days. Some people really do need the extra help.

But hey, at least he still got a kick out of playing the game despite.

Yeah, watching the YI Bombastica was fairly frustrating. Patrick really should have played the game a bit more before trying to show it in a good light, he missed a lot of the cool segments and solved most puzzles with brute force instead of using the games rules. At least this was a better showing than he did for Majora's Mask.

Im ready for Jeff's take now.

I would never want to play video games with you in the same room.

While it is odd that Patrick didn't even attempt to use the tongue to rescue the baby (what a crazy sentence that is), the only thing that really bugged me was that he couldn't defend the boss fights because of how early in the game he is when he made the video.

I'll just say it. Yoshi's Island has the best and most creative boss fights of ANY proper Mario game and possibly even any platformer ever.

Jumping on a boss's head to defeat it, or pressing a conveniently placed button, is a very low bar to set.

Damn you all for your Sandwich Making conversation yesterday. I brought out the Panini Maker today and made myself a small Panini Sammy: Italian Bread, Mozzarella and Ham slices.

twas good

Quick look is up for Kairo.

For whatever reason, watching any video that is less than like an hour old on the site just results in constant freezing of the player for me. Literally if I wait an hour or two after upload it plays fine, not sure why that would matter.

Server propagation? Maybe it takes an hour or two for the video to propagate to a server in which you can connect to and stream the video without any issues?

I got a big problem with getting on the Giantbomb site on Chrome. When I click the shortcut to Giantbomb in the "most recent sites used" my whole computer hangs besides the cursor. This happens on the main page. Can't switch focus, can't bring up task manager, can't do anything except wait. Maybe it has something to do with me logging in automatically?

This is a problem I have only on my work PC, where I never log in to Giant Bomb. Don't know what's causing it, but it doesn't affect me at home when I use Chrome, only at work (and only in Chrome on that computer).

I mean, I never visit Giant Bomb at work all the time and have therefore not experienced this problem.

It's not just GiantBomb for me it's a lot of websites

Does the status bar constantly say "Waiting for cache"

Every so often I have to nuke everything. History, cache, cookies, stored passwords, all of it.

hey, not sure if this is old news, but does the Giant Bomb/GS video player run like shit for everyone else? Buffers like no other website on chrome. It's gotten to the point where I basically avoid premium content because it's so frustrating to watch.

Yeah the player has been complete shit for me since they re-released the site last year. It is especially bad today tho...like worst than normal.

It's absolutely horrendous. I'm not sure how they have an entire engineering team there while the most important part of the site stumbles and stutters like crazy.

Watching the YI Bombastica reminds me how much I disliked Yoshi Island...I never had a snes so I guess I never had a nostalgic feeling for it either.

Isn't Rorie now in charge of the customer support kind of stuff? Has he gone mad with power and just started banning people left and right!? Did an animal shelter burn down and now he has to take it out on Giant Bomb users!

I think Brad's confessional about Dota 2 has official turned me off to the game. I don't think I have the drive to dig that deep and devote that kind of time to a single game anymore.

Yeah, its really intimidating when he puts it that way. I think learning the skill sets for different fighters in something like Street Fighter is nuts. You can forgot about me learning like over 50 heros.

It doesn't seem like that kind of game though, Brad just got caught into a hole. If anything, the discrete nature of the matches would make it easier to pick up and drop if you wanted.

edit: Oh you mean the insane amount of characters.

It's the research time, the long game time, the one-more-game-syndrome, I could see myself getting sucked into it but I have so many other games I want to play, I fear even testing the waters.

I'm a sort of a casual gamer that isn't too hardcore like you guys and I still found DOTA 2 to be incredible. It's a game that requires a lot of time so I get why some of you would be hesitant. DOTA 2 is still an easier game to get into than Starcraft 2 for example. It certainly isn't for everyone.

Just watched the Sanctum 2 Quick Look.

A Giant Bomb video sells me on another game. I had no idea Sanctum 2 even existed, but god damn it looks right up my alley.
