One of the sickest smackdowns I have ever seen in an online comment section...

Then that's completely my mistake. Did not know it would be difficult to see given that I said her ignorance was combated with his sexism, but now I can see why.

I know, but it didn't help his argument very much.

"So be quiet." So damn sexist.

You're just making yourself look silly now.

Yeah, and this verse is being taken out of context in this thread, which is really hilarious, considering the comments of "lol she doesn't know the bible".

I came across this and whether they author of that blog post agrees with the intent or not, it is something that is still enforced with varying degrees in some churches still.

Also, whoever said that about r/atheism. I am no atheist. Never been over there.

I was under the impression that verse does prohibit teaching by women in the Church, hence part of the reason why there is opposition to female bishops.
This verse has prohibited teaching by women in many churches.

Edit: A blog post on christianfeminism hasn't had much impact on that belief. Yes it is an alternate interpretation. That is about it.

Haha yea, it's ironic that they didn't know this was referring to the rules of preaching in the church. You know, that extremely sexist rule that a number of christian based faiths have basically concluded is bullshit.

And "Vicki" wasn't preaching. Nosiree.

I would like to point another major flaw in the original posters' argument -
While it's true that leviticus prohibit buttsex and it's true that it uses word that is usually translated to abomination, it's hardly the strongest words used in the bible.
In fact, pork is also called an abomination in leviticus.

For comparison, nothing in the ten commandments is an abomination (not even murder).

YES! BRB.

I got some bad news for you, murder is one of 3 sins (the other two being idolatry and incest) that you must sacrifice your life rather than commit.
But if someone put a gun to your head and demand you eat pork/fuck a dude - you're in the clear.

Really, while abomination is technically decent translation of the hebrew word, it misses a lot of its nuance.

What's that line about hating Shellfish?

I'm too lazy to find the house Bible right now.

Antyhow, long story short, if I quote it, does that mean I love to kill people for liking Shellfish?

There was another one with a girl saying homosexuality is a sin and some other girl telling her something akin to "premarital sex is also a sin yet you slept with all the football team" or something, it was pretty good.

Sigh...Ya I know. It was just a joke.

K that made me chuckle.

It's the interpretation that is taught in my church, I'm not sure what the split would be on churches in America and their stances on this verse though.
