i dont know much but i heard stuff in pm's especially back then. a good source told me durango dev kits were always unremarkable and in line with 1.2tf although he didnt know the specific model.

anyway it's on it's face stupid for a million reasons. nuumber 1 being it just doesn't even make sense for your dev kit to vastly outpower your planned retail.

thugway specifically said Durango kits were way overpowered and Sony started out with very weak kits.

I think both were targeting 7970 or GTX 680 in terms of performance. This is probably true since all the "next gen" games shown at e3 last year were running on GTX 680 .

I know people would dislike this but I sort of dug it when I first saw it.

And it would totally make sense :o
Just compare the video to that widget. They even have a loading animation for the single tweets. We have our first official leak here, guys.

It makes no sense to target a 680 at a console level IMO.

This is true

@Reiko : Targetting real-life gaming performance - not raw power.

not unless ms and sony had no idea what they were planning.

weak kits is believable, 360 kits were weak compared to final. but then again 360 had cutting edge hardware so there was no choice. there is no such excuse this time.

Sorry for going OT, but I'm really bothered every time you refer to Thuway as "thugway"

Is it intentional?

seems suspect logic also. if you're reffering to console optyimization first of all many argue it doesnt exist (eg 8800GTX from 2006 runs 720P games better than consoles!). Second when you'e deving on a console dev kit, console optimization should be self evident regardless of specs (since you are only deving on ONE hardware). but oh well guess i should drop this.

You shouldn't spin this too much. Last year Luminous was running on GTX 680, this year it was running well on PS4 according the Square's technical director. There will be issues like 30 FPS, weaker shadows, less draw distance but most games will look fine IMO.

thugway was way too negative though, he said MS will show mind blowing games at e3 and they will be downgraded by launch....I don't know what to say

Well, some guys said that is because first kits must to emulate all the hardware (not only GPU and CPU), like the sound chip.

Oh yeah. It was said that one of early dev kit CPU was a 16 core cause 8 of the cores were needed to emulate the sound chip...

Heard nothing like that about the GPU though.

There's a lot of custom stuff that you can do on a final console chip, especially in an APU, that would need to be brute forced in dev kits, hence the higher end cards. Stuff like advanced compute calculations and the DX11.x equivalent functions both consoles have. No lower end cards are available that can do stuff as well as next gen GPUs will be able to so they need to use something higher until those are ready. Devs know the target hardware and can plan accordingly, the different GPUs are essentially an emulator.

Did the devkits really have a 7970 in them at any point? Unless they scrapped that design all together there is no way they would downgrade to the vg leaks gpu. One of those rumors has to be completely wrong or maybe both. Was thuway making that up?
