Star Trek into Darkness |OT| Not very tired at all

Generations didn't work because of other reasons; weak villain and lack of action. Honestly, it's bloody boring !

Man, that film. The poor Enterprise-D, after all of TNG it deserved to go out better than getting bitch slapped by one Klingon Bird-of-Prey, and the same for Kirk, taken out by a falling bridge.

Just got back from seeing this.

Awesome fucking film, loved it from start to finish. Best Star Trek movie they've made to date, IMO.

Tickets bought for the 9pm show tonight. The true imax was sold out so we are settling on one of those chain specific imax-like theaters because I am far too impatient to wait. Will probably go to the real imax memorial day weekend. I am just watching the time go by so slowly at work!

89% fresh at RT after like 115 reviews. Not bad. Can't wait to see it Friday!

just watched the movie

it's fun and it's dumb (like the previous Star Trek) so I'm going to assume the next Star Wars movies will be fun and dumb as well. Cumberbatch was amazing, as expected, he's carrying the movie by more or less reprising his role of Sherlock - he's pretty much his evil version but with superhuman strength, and I'm absolutely okay with that

Since CBS owns the rights to both the Trek TV series and Showtime what does everyone think the odds are of them ever green lighting a big budget Star Trek drama on Showtime?

Slim and none.
You would see it far sooner on one of the other channels and it would not be CBS either.

Voyage Home had a weak villain and lack of action, too, and it is beloved by most fans. ;)

I will always be tickled by the knowledge that Kirk died on a bridge. It was awkward as hell what they did, but on a metaphorical level it almost fits pristinely from that perspective. It's like the ultimate example of "looks great on paper, translates poorly in practice".

For that matter, to hell with Ashes of Eden and its kin. That was actually a pretty good book, as I recall from the depths of my mind, but by then we'd had far more of the "some guy we like is dead, let's hit the undo button" thing than we needed.

Agreed.

Oh, and I'm OK with fun and dumb for the new Star Wars movies after the 3 piles of shit Lucas hoisted on us with the new trilogy.

Edit: It was nice that's been out for a week here in Europe where I'm travelworking, the theater wasn't crowded at all.

Just got back from seeing it in IMAX.

HOLY FUCK THIS WAS AWESOME.

Rivals the first film, may even be better. Sweet Jesus.

No post credits scene, but the poster we got glows in the dark!

Just got back. I'll probably write a bit more later but for now just wanted to say that I loved the fuck out of this movie. Not a big Trekkie (I've seen some of TOS and the even TOS movies) but I liked the 09 film a lot and enjoyed this even more.

Also, JJ Abrams is going to make a pretty good Star Wars movie.

God those numbers and quotes make me sad. I wish people had more interest in a cohesive plot these days. Explosions are cool, but damn people get distracted by the pretty lights easily.

Or maybe you're just being unreasonably critical and/or have poor taste? Because if pretty lights and explosions are all it takes for critical acclaim, Transformers, along with the billion other critically lambasted high octane blockbuster action films out there, want words.

Soooo I kind of feel like people are overselling this film. I didn't think it was "amazing" by any definition of the word.

It dragged a bit in spots, and could have used a few more locations. It's also very predictable, and most of the dialogue is average at best.

Still, it was pretty engaging and entertaining enough. Effects were good, and I'm keen to see Abrams take on Star Wars.

Also, guy needs to tone down on the bloody lens flares.

Episode VII will be better than the Abrams Star Trek movies just because of the fact that Orci and Kurtzman aren't writing them.

Just got back. It took a massive shit on the first one if you ask me and I loved the first. Better in every way, and it surprised me after the ohhh its too fast and too much action comments that it had a focus on character. I was incredibly engaged and thankful that nothing was spoiled for me.

My anticipation for Episode VII is... alarming.

Just got back. It was VERY good. I loved not knowing anything about the plot. My poor wife now needs to watch one of the older movies, which she refused to do previously.

I have zero concern that the next Star Wars movie won't be one of the best in the series.

I loved it. I've only seen the remake and none of the originals, but I really enjoyed this one. Probably more so than the remake. No post credits scene FYI.

On a side note, I'm still a junior and can't post new topics,

Why would someone wait in line to see the 11/midnight showing when they could've gone to the 8/9 showing instead? And for some I know it's not because they could make the earlier one or they've been sold out, because they were there before the earlier movie started and the theater wasn't full. I've seen this with both Iron Man and Star Trek.

Man, these impressions are getting me ecited. Tomorrow is my only final exam this semester, so I get to close the final night of school out with this movie

I gotta say, going in not knowing any details was such a blessing for this film. I had my theories, and some were right, some were wrong, but that was part of the adventure.

I'm glad I kept the mystery to be experienced first hand. I'd suggest seeing it ASAP, because after tonight it's going to be very hard not to get spoiled unintentionally.

Midnight is the earliest showing where I live

Less annoying children at later showings?

Loved the first film.. not sure how I'll place this one. My gut feeling is that Cumberbatch gives this one the edge. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Cool but not worth the extra $$, the IMAX is always worth it however. The sad part is you can't get IMAX without 3D.

Oh, so it's actually not complete shit and ruins the movie especially the action scene? =O!!!

Reserve seating theatre only does 3D, so if that's true, I don't have to wait in line.

Just got back. Really enjoyed it.

I think it's hard to make a judgement on how good or bad the next Star Wars will be based on viewing this film, since Abrams will almost certainly change his style up in a few ways, but I was entertained. I'm confident JJ will do a good job with Star Wars.
