Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | May 2013 | Lovecraftian Wasteland

Nice info. Thanks. Have you heard anything about first party stuff on Vita?

I haven't. I don't know if that's because they have so many teams working on the ps4 or if things are happening outside the realm of the folks I know (which is a pretty large realm, to be sure. I don't know anyone in management or the like).

My gut feeling is that there is atleast one other 'big' first party game coming this fall but this is completely just my opinion and not based on anything else. It just seems weird that we would know sony's entire first party lineup for the fall since, what, like february or whenever they showed Killzone?

But even if there's nothing else.... Killzone, Tearaway, a "massive" expansion to Soul Sacrifice and Sly HD collection is a decent fall considering they are launching what is arguably their most important system for the company since the first ps1.

But there are some good third party games coming to add on with Y's, Batman and Valhalla. And there will be more indies, of course, and then ps4 integration. So it's definitely shaping up to be better than last fall. Not that last fall is a high bar to cross.

Things im personally curious about and have absolutely no clue about:

CoD actually sold pretty well. Does Activision have a new team making a new one?

Ubi themselves said they made money with AC.... so why wouldn't there be another one? Though I can see them maybe going every other year on the vita since it takes 2 separate teams to make AC yearly on consoles. Though, obviously, it doesn't take as much effort or money to make a vita game...

EA is cutting all sorts of shit. Will we see another madden or fifa... or anything ever again by them?

NBA 2k. What the fuck 2k? You put out a shitty PSP version, can't you atleast make a lazy vita port? Pull an EA, I don't care!

Things I don't expect (but would be so happy to be wrong about)....

Anything from rockstar. I think GTA5 is their focus for a while especially considering they tend to make fairly meaty DLC.

Monster Hunter. Everytime Capcom says anything about anything part of me gets this faint hope that Monster Hunter is coming. So I'm trying to extinguish that hope so i stop getting disappointed. I mean I have a 3DS and wii U so I can still play whatever they make. But goddamn I want MH4 on my goddamn vita capcom.

Yeah just did the same. Saw Vita, PS3, PSP, and PSN all mentioned equally.
I did Inspect Element and only got Vita. If you do Page Source, then you get all the extraneous stuff like the website headers (that's the PS3/PSP stuff you're seeing).

Here's the non-header part, which only includes Vita.

I'm doing page source in firefox but I see that for the PS3 as well:

I think that just links to things at the bottom of the page, the one you quoted goes to this I think:

It makes perfect sense especially since the Vita is selling like shit. You want the big hitters to come early to expand and increase Vita sales. Or how else would the fan base expands if the big will be waiting for the install base to grow? It makes zero sense. You want the big hitters early to sell the damn thing, and Sony is so damn dumb for not releasing GT Vita at launch or close to launch, even if it´s a cutoff port of GT5. That would have helped to sell more Vita a lot especially in Europe, and gave a kick in sales in Japan for a couple of weeks. The wait for the Vita owners to increase a lot for big titles to come out is a very stupid notion and damages the Vita since big titles help sell it and also it helps the Vita get all kind of games, big hitters, small hitters etc... come to the Vita.

I agree that GT would move systems. The question is would it move enough systems to offset the cost?

And beyond that, like I said before, Sony doesn't tell Polyphony what to do. Sony is actually quite amazing in being hands off with their first party teams. And while it may be frustrating for us that Naughty Dog and Polyphony and Santa Monica aren't making Vita games... just look at the health of those studios versus the health of studios at places like EA and Activision which dictate to their teams what they should be making when and how many amazing developers EA in particular has bought and drove straight to the grave.

So I get the frustration. And thinking that GT will sell systems is logical. It probably would. But even if Polyphony wanted to make it I'm not sure it would make financial sense. But, again, it doesn't even matter because Polyphony didn't want to make a ps4 game or a vita game, they wanted to make another ps3 game. So that's what they did.

Well, in that case...

Making GT for vita makes sense because it makes money. GT has incredibly long legs (and previous GT sales proves it), even GT PSP sold 4.5 million copies and most of them were from Europe/US. (and remember, PSP was dead outside JP)

Sony and we all know GT VITA will sell. It will make money. Now whether PD wants to make Vita game is entirely another question. But if they do, it will sell.

It will sell. No doubt. But there's barely 4.5 million vitas in the goddamn world right now. Is it going to have a 100% attach rate? And yeah it will have legs, and they are projecting 5 million vitas in the next year, so will it have a 50% attach rate? Just to equal the PSP numbers...

The vita needs a system seller. I wouldn't expect a game that expensive to be it. Not with this low of an install base. Not with the ps4 coming out and sony in financial trouble.

on Soul Sacrifice...
hmm I kinda got enough of it.. but I haven't gone online since the demo... so maybe I should..

it's a fun game but I think it's just me.. I lose interest in things fast these days

I usually lose interest in games too after a short time. Strangely though, there have been a lot more Vita games that have captured my attention for hours on end than on any other system I own.

Do you have access to wifi again?

I'm in school now. and thus no WiFi. (well there is.. but Vita does not like the WPA2 Enterprise security used so no luck)

but yea Vita is really my go-to console/game system these days. I just wanna play everything on it.

(except DOTA2.. which I play with my schoolmates) haha

I got kinda bored of it after an hour or so. I regret buying it. Awesome lore, and I can tell it's a good game, it's just not for me. I may go back to it at some point.

Great and well informed post as usual sol. GT was never coming to the vita... and it's for the same reason it's not coming (or atleast debuting) on the PS4. Install base. The GT games would likely be system sellers (we really don't know since they never come out early in a gen) but they take a long ass time to develop and they cost a lot of money. The PS4 is going to sell PS4s. It doesn't need GT6 yet. It may in a year, but not this fall. And we also know that Polyphony likes to do two GTs per gen. They actually started development of this before even finishing 5 (five was delayed for many reasons including licensing so they were able to move part of the team over to start work on the next one).

Anyway, back to the vita, it's just doesn't make sense from a cost perspective to release it early in the vita's lifecycle. It makes more sense when there's more vitas out there so more people buy the game... justifying the time and cost it takes to make it. There's also the matter that Polyphony is given complete freedom to do what they want. They decide what system, they can delay as long as they feel is necessary... they really are like their own entitty. I would assume that's because every GT game so far has printed money.

Also if there was a vita GT coming I wouldn't have been able to stop myself from talking about it. ;)

Anyway, E3 is shaping up nicely from what i understand. There will be some major third party stuff (even in addition to whatever shahid is teasing which I honestly don't know what that is....). They will also, of course, be showing off indies and ps4 connectivity. And, on that front, I was told just this week that remote play is "flawless" with a dev kit. Dev kits, of course, are far more powerful than the systems themselves, but I don't know that remote play really needs "power" to work so I'm starting to get cautiously optimistic about that. And a price drop is expected. So I think when their conference ends people will be excited about the vita. It's not going to be 3ds levels of "we have 3d mario and mario kart" but it's going to make people feel good about the system. Which is exactly the opposite of last year's e3.

Ok so one of the most important questions i think....you say a price drop is expected, but have you heard anything about the cards? Like larger cards coming, or a price cut on them?

I have 2 32 gig cards filled with stuff so im really hoping they release a 128gb cards as that would give me more than enough space for awhile, though I dont want to pay $200 bucks for it.

Made a new thread for OlliOlli. with news sites mentioning it. Seems to focus on controls and combos so that gives me hope the mechanics will make it fun, looking forward to it.

Finally played Dokuro and I am really not feeling it although I love puzzle platformers. Thought this game would be perfect for me before trying it, played the first two stages so far. The presentation, especially the annoying looping music, is bad and because of that it isn't charming me at all. Gameplaywise it doesn't hold up as well.

Really hope it picks up. Would be the biggest disappointed besides Escape Plan so far for me.

That's what they did with Call of Duty and that bit them in the ass.

(when's e3 for Sony btw?)
Only because everything was very bad managed.

People want to know that sony cares and sony should hype everything it has to make people more optimistic, even a big esclusive at e3 wold not repair the damage of months of doom & gloom, sadly communications is more important than reality, look at vita's launch, one of the biggest ever but vita has no gaemz....
sony hire me!

I think it's related to DriveClub.

DriveClub logo:

Logo that was in the Panopticon trademark filing:

SCEE-Europe-Red-Gray-Symbol-280x320.jpg

Furthermore, Panopticon was trademarked by SCEE. Why would it have anything to do with Patapon, which is a SCEJ thing?
:O
I knew i have seen it before!
Good find!

PS:
What does patapon has to do with panopticon?

So, Panopticon countdown finished.

Definitely not a Vita game if this is real time. And parts of it do look real-time.

The parts filled with aliasing look realtime and something the Vita could
barely
handle.

Dat Death Note feel... although I'm sure it will be an hunting game :(

The music is so cheesy though. I don't think it will be high profile as they want us to think.

Look at the IQ, the particle effects, and the complex geometry - GE2 isn't even close. No Vita game actually even approaches the level of that trailer.
But the vast majority of the trailer is CG. Only the parts that look viable on the vita are realtime, imho. Those (very few) are too shallow to be PS3.

The god eater 2 is multi with psp and that trailer is ingame, the panopticon one is clearly not ingame.

I kinda think there are titles that Sony might be holding back because they tie into unannounced PS4 games. An obvious example would be an Uncharted from Bend that serves as a direct prequel to U4 from Naughty Dog.

Parts of the trailer keep making me think of augmented reality stuff.

Crossposting from the Rymdkapsel thread:

This game was my impulse buy today and I don't regret it, great game. Already spend over two hours with it. After failing my first try miserably I researched all four monoliths in my second round. Got a little bit greedy and many of my minions died on their way to the weapon stations so I only made it to round 26.

Does anybody know if there are other maps? Do I have to finish all missions first?

I recommend everybody that can buy this game to do so. PSM needs more games of this quality so support this developer.

I'm so excited to see what E3 brings. Seriously, I could live perfectly off the handhelds, so I'm probably gonna skip Wii U and the next Xbox and just go with PS4/Vita/3DS.

I really want somekind of Tekken, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts - whatever, just more retail games instead of all these indies. :D

I don't think so, the helm is the most far thing from panopticon(and there's no scej logo), it reminds me of toukinden(or monster hunter) so i bet on toukinden.

The chalkboard (in the commercial) lists:

PSO2
Soul Sacrifice
Ragnarok Odyssey Ace
Toukiden
God Eater 2
********* (that's unknown title I'm talking about).

Well in this case... :(

To be fair, I saw it one more time and the guy is actually saying "coop games for Vita".

Some are speculating it may be Dragon's Crown, or Gundam Breaker.
However if it's an already announced title then it doesn't make sense to hide it.

Anyway, the new game may be coop game but not necessary hunting game.

Lapsed Vita owner returning to the fold after a drunk ebay bargain here.
As someone who originally bailed out June 2012 what's come along since that warrants a purchase?
& is the Strangers Wrath port any good?

if you have P3P, is it worth it to get P3 FES that is $5 now?

only if you really really loved the game and wanted to see what happens after the events of 3.
the extra story in fes is interesting enough, but the actual gameplay for it is super boring as it is just the combat from persona 3, and requires a decent amount of grinding as the enemies get stronger much faster than you do. despite loving the base game I have never been able to finish Fes' extra content due to how much of a boring grind it was, and how far apart the new story content was.

Welcome back!

I'd recommend:

PS+
Persona 4 Golden
Soul sacrifice
Guacamelee,
Little big planet

Strangers Wrath is great on vita, really good port.
