Steam Trading Cards : get trading cards and turn it into stuff

Money for the cards is crazy at the moment, but if you can just idle in game menus and acquire them then the prices are going to fizz out quick.

Anyone have the Willow or Wolfgang Don't Starve cards?

If so I have some Portal ones to trade for them. Finale, Intro and Mannequin. Also some Half Life 2 if you need those.

They kind of are. Everything right now says series 1.
Interesting, if the cards get any cheaper I might buy a few more.

Anyone noticed that in the Steam Market that there's now a 'Half Life 2' filter? Has that always been there? Kinda weird since there's nothing resellable in Half Life 2 (cards are all under the 'Steam' filter).

Edit: It's gone now... should've screenshoted it.
Edit 2: Portal 2 also popped up, guess it's Steam being weird.

Really sucks being 14 xp away from 10. Have to use up potential foil card drops to get the set to get the badge to get the xp. D:

I'll wait until something like Series 8 when the S1 cards are in high demand. Either this stays popular and prices go back up or it all fizzles out.

Meh you never know with Valve. They could let it die like Portal 2 items and Hats.

It's not up to Valve to let it live or die, like every economy, it's up to people.

If 10 years from now, people decide these series 1 cards are worth a hundred bucks, then that's what it is no?

Eh this is pretty different from that. The Portal 2 stuff was pretty much tacked on from TF2 and didn't work for a 2 player game. This looks heavily integrated into Steam and its a pretty decent idea. Once they can get more ways to obtain cards like through achievements or special weekend events it'll be pretty awesome. And I can see it getting supported by devs as well since they can set their cut on their cards on the market.

But damn, I didn't know that there were multiple levels to the badges. They definitely need multiple ways to obtain badges as rebuying the same cards over and over is pretty lame.

wait a second, THERE ARE FUCKING FOIL STEAM TRADING CARDS? http://steamcommunity.com/market/listings/753/SCOUT (Foil)

How does that even make sense

How about no.
I really couldn't care less about all these features. If i want money for a game i'll go and buy it, period.
As a busy person i can't be bothered with silly cards and such.

This is going to be rolled out to all users at some point, you won't have choice.

And again, stuff like this shouldn't be forced upon users. I couldn't care less what lvl other people are. Also, how come i'm lvl 9 and there are users with less games or years using steam and they are lvl 12. Absolutely rubbish.

Instead of bringing broken features all the time, how about fixing the activity feed which is broken beyond relief and it constantly ''Time Warp'' or shows nothing at all.
Also, profile info is gone, unless you click in ''View More Info'', screenshots previews are gone, Games played during the last weeks are also gone. This is a mess.

Steam doing what PSN should have done with trophies and ranks.
Could you expand on this? I've barely used trophies. The new steam stuff is a good start. I'm hoping they can get their achievement system fixed so it isn't super easy to auto unlock achievements so they can be used as an alternate form of getting more cards for game badges.

While I'm not sure that it is "broken", it is in Betaand you most likely opted in. There's going to be some issues, they will get sorted out, no biggie. Hopefully they can rollback for you, it seems like going back and forth between Beta Features/Live Features would be something they have figured out, I wouldn't think it would be a problem.

I do agree that the new interface is pretty messy, I'm finding it more and more difficult to find what I am looking for while searching through my own profile, and others. Could just be something that takes some time getting accustomed to, or maybe they will smooth it all out through some updates. Nothing a little iteration can't fix.

Basically there was a ranking system where you fill up a bar, much like this level XP system on Steam. Each trophy you earn fills it up a certain amount, so it's effectively a measurement of how many trophies you have earned overall. The problem was that the bar slows to a crawl once you get above around rank 10, making you grind games for hours to get enough trophies to level up again. The other even bigger problem was that as far as I know, Sony barely did anything with these ranks. No trading cards, rewards, profile enhancements, coupons or anything cool. I believe there was maybe some sort of reward handed out to the top earners, and a couple of small email campaigns, but it was never explicitly said that the ranks actually meant anything other than e-peen bragging rights, and what they did do with them was pretty worthless anyway. This Steam system is much better - better explained and you actually know what you're working towards. It's more meaningful.

I dun goofed. My other account had Steam Guard turned off because I was tired of always typing in that code and now I have to wait 15 days before I can trade or use the Market.

Are people really taking issue with playing games and getting stuff that you can sell for real money? I mean, just play games as you normally would and then sell those things... you're essentially getting games for free...

Ah so it's the meaningless of the levels later on. Hopefully Steam/Valve keep working on this. I'm rather impressed with their ideas and can see this becoming a huge part of Steam if done right.

Also I really want some Witcher 2 cards/backgrounds now.

Ah, bit of a bummer. Still a fair bit to go. Annoying I'm 2 XP away from each subsequent level. So I'll have to complete two more sets. Oh well.

i don't have any game cards though...
I completed HL2.. but none of the progress was logged zzz

Prior stats don't matter as far as I can tell, just leave the game on idle for an hour or so and you'll get the four codes. Or play the game of course, I did that with Don't Stave because it's awesome.

You need to be level 10. Once you hit that you can insert a showcase into your profile which can be for acheivements workshop items, inventory items ect. You get an additional showcase every 10 levels.

Here's the Alyx/Gordon background.

Woah, that achievement showcase is cool. How do you set that up?
What he said, but it's bugged-- achievement showcase doesn't show up as an option for everybody, something Valve is aware of but not sure how they're going to fix.

It has nothing to do with your progress currently. All you have to do for now is launch the game and let it run for x amount of time, until you've received 4 cards.
