EA Sports Engineer: Wii U is crap, < powerful than 360. No $ 3party. [Tweets Deleted]

Why is it insane? Please share to us why a developer speaking his mind is insane?
He's either scared of sharing his thoughts, or he isn't.
There's no mental health issues related.

Don't be dense.

The insanity comment is directed toward the notion that Nintendo is tyrannical, further coupled with the fact that it's in defense of an employee of EA - one of the shadiest, most anti-consumer publishers out there - apparently speaking "truth" to power.

This whole ordeal makes the industry look bad in every way. Developers act like children on twitter, journalists run with the stories and sensationalize them, and everyone in general just acts like a bunch of babies.

that bit is certainly in no way unique to gaming industry.

I don't really think I need to quote sources for information that's available to see even on Wikipedia. I'd be wasting too much time otherwise in every technical discussion.
One look at the specs section for all three consoles and you can check if I was right or not regarding bandwidth and CPU speed.

Ps4 and x720 have lower clocked CPUs than ps360, are they crap too?

I'm gonna be a Yoshi Hunter!

You and your party enter a forum. Acrid clouds of postsmoke drift through the dim. The scent of trollene is present, but the Ultramods haven't enforced law in Sektor-02 in years.

You see a half-fanboy whispering in hushed tones to a vid-bard. He seems quite paranoid. Dost thou listen in?

Wii U is guaranteed success in Japan.

And the way Nintendo works as business, even if Wii U is third place in the west, it will still be profitable for them. Gamecube was profitable for Nintendo - even though people were telling them to quit the console business because they were losing.

I know. I would disagree that the Wii U is a guaranteed success is Japan however, but then again it is too early to judge given that they clearly have devoted a fair bit of their resources to propping up their core business(3DS) which certainly is a guaranteed success in Japan.

Did he deleted the tyranny tweets i'm not interested in reading all the 30+ previous pages.

How long can EA keep churning out COD and FIFA and relying on huge success with the casuals?

Is their business model sustainable?

I suspect that Call of Duty Ghosts and FIFA 15 may sell less than their predecessors. Perhaps a downward spiral from here on out for EA.

Ok. Now I'm confused!

I.... think you might need to read up a little bit more on Call of Duty.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the "Gen4" thing.

Is he really implying that games before the PS1 didn't count?

Do we know how old this guy is?

Meh, his point stands. Replace CoD with Battlefield or Madden or whatever.

I've been hearing that for years. "COD won't sell as much in the next installment". COD(or Battlefield) might die, but dosn't mean they can't create another successful IP based in the same concepts.

Is like saying that action movies will stop making money at some time in the future...

That's GFX programmer talk.
They usually start counting from the first generation with polygons (3D)

YO GFX programmers! 2D Sprites >>>> Polygawns! Cry moar with your AA techniques!

Watching something die I don't care about is a pretty relaxed experience, calling for a nice glass of wine. What's not to get? Not to mention I'm not in Nintendo's shoes to begin with...
It wouldn't be expensive if you didn't care.

Also, to put things in perspective, Vita is profitable to Sony.

People pleading for price drops on those systems have no idea how to run a business. Market share shouldn't be a goal in itself.

If Nintendo had quit the hw business after the Gamecube, as suggested by dozens of people, they wouldn't have struck gold with the Wii. They lose nothing on a dud and win big on a hit.

It's not unique but it's not a positive thing. And TMZ/Perez Hilton are popular because they stalk celebrities and spread rumors about people who choose to place themselves in the public eye. This guy made some dumb comments on twitter and gaming journalism may cost him his job. He's just a regular dude.

I dunno, it feels different to me.

Obviously it is. Nintendo went from making inventive games to casual crap dedicated to soccer moms and children. By contrast EA has been a long supporter of adult hardcore audience of true gamers. Just look at Dead Space 3 and Crysis 3, Nintendo wishes Wii U had games as creative as those two.

Speaking freely doesn't mean unfiltered.

EA has a right to fire him, but the people who think he SHOULD be fired over this are real jerks.

Good for you. That doesn't mean you can be an unprofessional arse about it though.

A small detail some people are missing. Take note of this tweet:

He isn't just shouting off his own opinions here, but he is actually representing EA.

Thats for EA to deal with.

I hope you are not an entrepreneur.

If i was, I would be able to say whatever I wanted.

That is actually EA's official stance towards the upcoming gen.

But by just picking Battlefield or CoD, you're missing the point of his post. Simply put, he is calling the EA business model unsustainable, which it is.

I guess it'd blow his mind if he ever found out there were polygonic games on the snes and megadrive

I know exactly what tyranny means. Nintendo has a long history of bullying third parties by implying that game design is more important than graphics. And the way they present themselves to their audience doesn't help the industry. Instead of growing some balls, trying to man up and speak the truth like the EA employee they resort to constant apologies and polite answers that somehow are considered to be "professional". What are they, a bunch of babies? Judging by their recent gaming output, seems so.

Are you sure about that because if Sony expects to sell 5 million next year I'm pretty sure that profitability will take a large hit. unless they're planning on ceasing production on the vita

You can make money on Nintendo platforms... Making dumb decisions on the Wii U like launching Mass Effect 3 on the platform and then announcing the entire trilogy everywhere else isn't going to help you make money.

It must be a bitch to think you're part of the gang at EA and allowed to speak your mind and have the rug pulled out from under you so publicly. It had to hurt bending knee and deleting those tweets.

I don't know who I should be identifying as the victims here. Do I have even an inkling of compassion for the delirious Nintendo fans who give Nintendo hobbyists such as myself a bad name, or the unprofessional man children given license through social media to express their unbridled hatred and animosity towards an inanimate corporate entity? No. If anyone deserves an apology, it's the level-headed gamer who, by no fault of his own, finds himself caught in the cross-hairs of warring factions impelled by sheer ignorance and inanity. Why can't I simply enjoy video games as a mode of entertainment without becoming entangled in the politics of the industry or the errant fanaticism that pervades the internet?

Maybe the notion of several competing consoles has overstayed its welcome. For some, the box sitting under the entertainment center has become more than a mechanical assemblage of transistors, shiny plastics, and silicon - it has become emblematic of a profound personal and emotional commitment. In the case of most self-professed hardcore gamers, it is quite literally an extension of the self. Making a derogatory comment about one's console of choice is now tantamount to throwing a punch, or insulting one's kin. I realize this console ingroup vs outgroup mentality has been raging for quite some time now. Many of us fondly recall the tame-by-comparison console wars of the early and mid 90's. With the advent of social media and the growing popularity of forums, however, fanboyism has reached its critical mass.

Not to vindicate the EA senior software engineer, but I have to wonder why the implications behind his words hurt people with presumably NO affiliation whatsoever to Nintendo co Ltd. Part of me sees these individuals as hopelessly ensnared in a social experiment gone horribly wrong, and in dire need of clinical intervention.

Dude, there's a lot of overreactions on both "sides" of this thing.

Case in point:

I know exactly what tyranny means. Nintendo has a long history of bullying third parties by implying that game design is more important than graphics. And the way they present themselves to their audience doesn't help the industry. Instead of growing some balls, trying to man up and speak the truth like the EA employee they resort to constant apologies and polite answers that somehow are considered to be "professional". What are they, a bunch of babies? Judging by their recent gaming output, seems so.

How does anything in this post even work

You know, instead of calling for this guy to be fired, we should all take pity on this EA Software Engineer.

Think about it.

Imagine spending 12 years of your life working on something that, within just a couple of years, will get tossed into the discount bargain bin of obsolescence.

When game collectors rifle through old bins full of cartridges or dvd cases, they're always frustrated to find dozens of copies of old sports titles. Nobody gives a shit about old sports titles.

They're looking for the games that have stood the test of time. EA games don't do that - their success is almost entirely predicated on a monopoly of sports licenses and annual releases with the latest rosters and MVP on the cover.

Imagine spending a significant fraction of your life making small incremental changes to what is, essentially, the same game you made last year. And the year before. And the years before that. It's only natural after a few years you start to feel the whole exercise is pointless. You may become so jaded, your soul so damaged, that you take to public forums like Twitter to air your grievances.

Of course he's resentful of Nintendo. With the Wii, and now the Wii U, Nintendo has essentially given the middle finger to the entire game industry. An industry which lives or dies on graphical performance. Would Madden and the other sports games still be popular if it wasn't for the steady climb in graphic realism? What if, like Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft had released Wii-level consoles this past generation. Would people still care to run out and buy the latest edition of Madden knowing it would look pretty much identical to the last 8 versions?

On the other hand, maybe firing him at this point would be a boon to him. He might go to work for a different company, one that makes games people genuinely love and care about? Maybe he'll finally get to make a game that, even in two years, will still be worth playing?

Finally, someone with the authority to define what a real gamer is for the rest of us. Would you like to define who real people are next?

Um, nobody has to listen to them. In fact, most don't. That's not tyranny.

That's not tyranny, that's a different view point.

Do you actually know what tyranny means, because it's about forcing people to do what they don't want to do for your own ends

That's hate and nothing else.

And even a "relaxed experience" is bad enough and it says alot about you. EA is not destroying the world or something, so having a relaxed experience if hundreds of people lose their job is pretty low.
EA is no charity, and neither am I. Why should I care? If EA's analysts were right, they'll thrive - and if they were wrong, they'll burn. It's that simple. Either way, people will lose their jobs. Do you consider Nintendo employees losing their jobs less bad?

A major breakup had to happen between these two companies. It's the only explanation for this. Crazy to see a company flat out drop support like this.

I er....actually think you don't.
