Will let xbox 360 and next gen xbox players interact

There's another xbox 360 dashboard update on the boil, ifverge sources are worth their salt. Microsoft will release the new dash update into public beta during late june or early july, the site claims, in order to prepare the ground for the launch of the next generation xbox later in the year.

"We're told that the user interface will be refreshed alongside smaller live tiles, similar to what microsoft is preparing for windows 8.1. Microsoft is also said to be tweaking the look of the xbox dashboard, with the possibility of darker or lighter themes," it reads.

The thinking behind the update, apparently, is to help xbox 360 users transition to the new console by letting them interact with xbox 360 users, by way of messaging, xbox live beacons and achievements. The best way would be to make an it an accessory like the keypad where it slips in from the bottom. I use my keypad all the time and would be open to swapping it out with at touchscreen.

No, not really. The whole point of calling something "nothing" goes with the idea that it's filler-time, useless, etc.

I thought the PS4 unveil was great, but it can definitely have been a lot better, and it could easily be outdone.

I've the feeling they will show COD in the X360 and just a teaser of the next-gen version (or even just the X360 version).

Oh fuck no. I really, really don't want that to be the case. That seems to be like a GT 6 type of bonehead move. Don't kill the next console's hype, especially at the thing's conference.

I totally agree when it comes to viewing the conference, but I don't really think there can be different interpretations of "nothing." Eh, who cares though, it's kind of silly to argue about.

Ghosts is getting such a big push because COD is the biggest franchise in the world. Getting new Xbox and next gen Call of Duty associated together from the word go is common sense from Microsoft.

Yeah, that's not likely. Why would they show the inferior version? I would be shocked if they didn't show off the next-gen version heavily. After all, Activision wants their player base to move to next-gen badly as well, so they want to advertise it being the best version for them.

The reveal as a whole wasn't "nothing". But they did add a lot of fluff to fill out 2 hours.

They could have compressed it to 1 hour, and cut out a LOT of stuff that either wasn't ready, or just not worth showing.

yep this one hour will most likely be jammed pack to make an impact quickly and on the news... the details will be clarified in follow ups
 
Its still mindblowing how little information we have about the Durango. Amazing job of protection of their intellectual property really- how many other consumer electronic devices are able to accomplish this?

Absolutely. But at this point, with only 23 days to E3, that's a mostly null point. If Tuesday's reveal was the 21st of April, then that's a whole different ball park.

The wait for this reveal is horrible, the wait for E3 is going to be even worse :(

I really hope the next CoD has a new engine and that movement stuff. I know all of my friends are going to buy it, and get me to buy it as well, so I'd prefer it to be a fresher experience if possible than the past few installments.

60FPS or bust though. They're never going to give up that principle, nor should they.

I'm always down for new stuff. Would be another way to control the OS.

Two events in the Spring and/or Summer when the product is releasing in the Holiday is fine either way, as long as the quality and exposure is there.

The PlayStation Meeting could be extremely trimmed down. 60 minutes is only too short if you have a habit of saying "uh" and "um" a lot.

Stumbled upon that video again on an old 360 demo disc...was a blast from the past. In fact the whole disc was like a time capsule to 2005 era MS. Even loaded up the old blades guide (which didn't fully work due to no online connection capable on that setup anymore).

Hope MS puts out more discs like that for the next Xbox so I can relive that experience in 6-7 years.

I agree.

The problem Sony had by showing early was that they didn't have a whole lot of running software. They showed screenshots of the OS, but I don't recall them ever walking through it. They showed off Killzone being played and Watch Dogs, and they had a whole bunch of trailers and tech demos. The advantage that MS now has that they are announcing 3 months later is that they can probably show much more code actually running. The OS, more games, etc. Neither is objectively the better approach though, just different.

To me, nothing really matters until we can pre-order these consoles, and that will be after E3. Until then, it's all talk since there are tons of bombs that will drop at E3 from all sides that will sway peoples dollars one way or the other (or even to both!).
