It looks so convincingly 2D in motion that I had to do a double take even after the first camera pan. They really nailed the shading and animation this time.

But why does Sol's shoulder look like he's put lotion on it before the fight?
Because he would get a sunburn in the wild west, if not?

Are you posting from some alternative universe? The animations are great and this is one of the best looking fighting games I've ever seen.

I never said it was a bad thing.

But compared to the smoothness of 3rd strike or KoF13, guilty gear pales to those when it comes to animation, seeing that it is replicating the signature low-frame animation of previous guilty gears.

"The incredible animation is why the Naruto games look great. This just looks as crappy as the previous GGX games in motion."

The Naruto games do look amazing, but they're also not trying to be a 2D fighting game.

SF4 is a 2D fighting game and its animation is fantastic.

Crashed after Arc Fes. Wakes up to GGXXX. It's finally happening!

Those new models look pretty good to me. Ky with a pony tail hnnng. That 6P impact!

Oh my god... OH MY GOD!!!
I wanna fall asleep again to wake up to these amazing news again. :'D

When I said trying to be a 2D fighting game, I meant actually trying to sell the illusion of using sprites. SF4 doesn't do that either. SF4 also does have a different feel in motion than sprite based fighting games. Not bad, just different.

I can't be the only one who notices that Sol's weapon now looks like an effin' lighter:

I'd call it bad, personally...

But it doesn't look like spritework, that's the point.

These character models don't even remotely look like spritework.

SF4 is also not even trying to pretend to look like 2D animation.

Huh? The animation in SF4 actually does have an exaggerated cartoon-like style to it. It animates nothing like Tekken or the VF games, for instance.

It's okay to like this decision, and it's also okay to admit it animates like butt. Just like the previous GGX games.

As smooth as SF4's animation is, it still feels too stiff and cardboard-boxy compared to Third Strike.
Part of it is due to the clothing I think. There is some bounce to it if you look at things like Ryu's gi, but Ibuki's pants actually had cloth fluidity in 3, while in 4 they look like they've been starched to complete stiffness.

I love how they're intentionally mimicking the 2D animation with 3D models. It's an interesting approach to keep both the aesthetic and the gameplay similar while benefiting from the use of 3D models. A lot of games that move from 2d to 3d, even if they retain 2d gameplay like SF4, have a different feel to them. I'm curious to see how well this succeeds at keeping that 2D feel. I'm still partial to the aesthetics of 2D art in games, but this appears to be the closest 3D has come to capturing it, as far as I know.

Ky's ponytail looks a little goofy but I'm a big Guilty Gear fan so I'm definitely looking forward to more GG.

SF4 does have exaggerated animation, but it is still not trying to look like it uses sprites. Toy Story has exaggerated animation.

I'm guessing this is their "next-gen" series.

Also expecting some gameplay changes that cause reactions similar to those SF2 fans had of 3rd Strike, and 3S fans had of SF4.

Yo this looks absolutely insane. Was the entire trailer 3D? Cause if so... hot damn.
Never got into GG that much but I always admired the spritework and music. This doesn't seem like it'll disappoint!

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees

Not a fan of the current look, but it's GG who cares. I'm hype

Why would they?

They're working from scratch, so some characters will have to be left out at the first edition. Still, I think May has a secure spot, after all she's one of the top 10.
Zappa is probably one of the characters that will be dropped, I don't think he's that popular and he doesn't play much of a role in the story.
