RETRO STUDIOS: Will we finally see their mystery WiiU title at this year's E3?

I feel those in the biggest lose-lose scenario in this situation are EatChildren and Nirolak. If Mario Kart isn't announced as a Retro Studios project, their claims of Mario Kart will be hailed as the worst predictions in entertainment history. If Mario Kart is the Retro Studios project, they will recieve fierce backlash for not giving enough warning to what is the biggest entertainment disaster of the 21st century.

Why again Dread btw? Why that name?

The name appeared on official nintendo lists for upcoming releases or e3 coverage or something, then it disappeared with no official comments. People assume (orlike to dream) it got trapped in development hell and we will eventually see some interpretation of it.

Is anyone else worried about Gamepad uses in Prime 4? I fear scanning will be the new waggle. Hated scanning in lego city, its a hassle and not fun at all :/

"Metriod Dread" was also in Metriod Prime 3 when it said "Metriod project "Dread" is nearing the final stages of completion"

Something I was thinking.

It can't be a new Prime game.

Retro has stated that Prime was meant to be a trilogy focusing on Phazon and it's corruption now that
the entire phazon planet was destroyed along with Metroid Prime
they really can't make another Prime game

It could be a Metroid but it won't be titled Prime 4.

Sylux game? Sylux game.

Thanks alot, completely missed that.

Lol at that dsmedia URL for the pic.

So maybe "Metroid project Dread" was Other M ?

I don't know about that, Metriod Prime 3 released in August of 2007 and probably finished a few months before release, this would mean they were making 2 mainline Metriod games for the Wii at the same time, and even that doesn't make sense because of it was nearing "completion" it wouldn't of took 3 more years to release.

It better be. I'm not even going to humor the possibility of Retro working on Mario Kart, but man the meltdowns would be so fucking delicious. . . but yeah I'm hoping it's a new IP. I wouldn't mind Metroid at all, but honestly Nintendo needs a new IP to appeal to Western audiences.

So, we wondered, could the long-incubating Metroid: Other M, which we learned was conceived in 2006, be the Dread project?

"He's very familiar with that [game,]" Sakamoto's translator said after posing our question to him. "No, this is different."

We pressed for details on what Dread is. Sakamoto's response: "The day may come when Dread hits the stores, but this one is something that's completely different. This is other M."

Nearing final stages. And that can mean a long time of dev time.

Just like "nearing expectations".

There is nothing surprising about Retro working on MK, but it can't be their main game. I refuse to believe it.

Some wiki quotes to add to the thread:
In April 2008, Retro saw the departure of three key developers, designer Mark Pacini, art director Todd Keller, and principal technology engineer Jack Mathews, who went on to form their own company, Armature Studio.
Retro accepted the task, and thus started development of Donkey Kong Country Returns. Similar to New Super Mario Bros., the game was developed with the intention to invoke nostalgic feelings in the player with its art style and sound, while trying to provide them with new gameplay experiences. Returns employs fully polygonal 3D graphics with three times the amount of textures and polygons that Corruption offered, and over the course of six months, two thirds of the game's tools and engine had to be rewritten by the programmers.
After the development of DK Returns was completed, two more key departures happened at Retro with senior designers Kynan Pearson and Mike Wikan moving on to 343 Industries and id Software, respectively.
Miyamoto has said he would like to work with Retro in a Legend of Zelda game, however he says that the current game Retro is working on is not Zelda.
It is known that Retro has hired staff members from Naughty Dog — well known for creating the Uncharted series, id Software and Vigil Games, known for creating the Darksiders series.
At E3 2012, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Amie told IGN in an interview that Retro is currently "hard at work" on an untitled project for the Wii U.
It's been confirmed on Retro's Facebook page that the studio had moved from their original location to a new location still in Austin, Texas.
Now for something random

Samus Polycount
Prime: 9,800 GC
Prime 2: 9,800 GC
Other M: 15,280 Wii
Prime 3: 18,962 Wii

Plish be exhaaated.....

Haha, yeah Retro did work on Mario Kart 7 I believe right? But yeah I'm talking about Mario Kart U being "the" game in question Retro will reveal. It's truly the worst case scenario. lol

Why do people still believe that Retro is working on Mario Kart 8 and nothing else...maybe they do the Metroid course in MK 8 but nothing more.
I guess they'll show us the new Matrix x Metroid game at E3.

I'm not sure what the focus of lol Retro doing Mario Kart is all about.

They announced Mario Kart and still have Retro's game as a mystery block to be determined.

Mario Kart is developed by Konno´s team. Please stop that nonsense with MK.

Blame EatChildren for putting the idea in my head. Until I see Retro's game for myself, I'm not ruling out the possibility, because it would simply be a hilarious waste of talent.

Why would they hire former Bioware, Vigil and Junction Point concept artists and animators to work on Mario Kart? lol

Let's all just hope Sumo Digital is working on Mario Kart. There is more evidence they're working on MK than Retro.

They assisted with MK7.

Doesn't really mean anything though, Monolith assisted with Skyward Sword yet I don't think anyone expects a Takahashi Zelda anytime soon.

If Nintendo had to go into panic mode just to finish MK7 for holiday 2010, then yeah there's a good chance Retro's gonna be pulled in to help out again. And if not them then someone else. And at this point I'm honestly not expecting Retro's game to be released this year regardless of if they're being distracted with something else (please prove me wrong Retro), so realistically it won't affect me too much. But yeah, I'm still banking on us getting an announcement this year

Yes, and will be amazing, and Reggie will say that all the demos from the show floor will be avaiable on eshop. And everyone will be able to have their own E3 IN CASA. And Banjo will be back... banjo Katooie 3D for 3DS and banjo threeie for Wii U and Banjo on Smash Bros... And Mario Kart...

then I wake up... Retro's game will be there though...
