Cersei and Stannis should marry. I would love that sitcom.
She also lost her husband, put up with a lot of shit from her brother, lost a lot of people in quarth, was almost assassinated, etc.
I'm perplexed about Barristan Selmy (Danny's 2nd counselor):

Wasn't he supposed to be a feared Knight / sword fighter? In that picture, he looks more like a Wizard!
Yes, both bad things and good things just happen TO her, that's kind of the problem. She isn't actually all that active in her own storyline, things just happen around her. And the only decisions she makes are "i have dragons so I can do what I want". She's like Kim jong un if he actually had nukes

The central characteristic of her character arc is that she's now the one making the calls. The whole Unsullied thing in Astapor was her doing and hers alone. So's Yunkai so far. I don't see the point you're making.

These are based on the book, not the show. In the books Theon is a traditionally handsome "lady-killer" and Jorah is gruff, hairy, and unassuming as depictedI actually followed the suggestion from Dave Inc. and was creating a comparison list for this thread sake. Thank god there was one already created.
Overall, I think the current cast represents better the personality of the characters, than most of the fan art.
For example, Theon looks way too "handsome" there.
Jorah way too old+fat+bold, and unassuming
They've really been hyping Bariston's abilities since the show began, but has the guy ever done anything other than stand there, and look all dignified? If he ever gets to kill anything, anything short of slicing his way through a battalion of men would be unimpressive.
My point is the only call she makes is "dragons, go", and the dragons that she was handed for free go get her more free shit. She didn't need to do anything other than simply have dragons to get the unsullied. I'm not saying she's a terrible human being, just that her storyline is simply "easy" for lack of a better word.
Oh, and when she finally has some opposition, their heads get cut off in the span of one episode because a guy has a crush on her and gives her even more free shit
Tywin's only call is "money, go." Tyrells' only call is "money, go." Littlefinger's only call is "backstabbing, go." Everyone uses what they have. Should she go "fuck my dragons I'm only gonna use jujitsu?"

The dialog was horribly written, just intended to shock you (i.e. "show me your cunt!"). It seemed like they thought: 'hmm, how can we convey that these sellswords are misogynists', there was no tact to the dialog. The entire scene felt amateurish (e.g. sniffing Missandei, slapping her behind).
I don't mean this in the sense of 'ooh I'm so offended by the use of the word 'cunt'', it's just this type of character keeps getting introduced: a tactless male who's a dick to Dany - they either get roasted by her dragons or killed by someone else - whilst she sits there smug and calm. I feel like the same stuff keeps getting recycled with her, it's starting to become redundant. I've enjoyed these scenes in the past (e.g. Kraznys in Astapor), but something was really 'off' about the whole scene. Perhaps it's the actor (he didn't seem intimidating in the slightest), perhaps its the dialogue. What ever it is, it sucks.
I'll admit I felt better about the scene after we found out that Daario (sp?) had killed them. At least they can't stain a scene like that again.
Damn that slave girl in episode 8 can have my legacy, where do they find these actresses...

Well, while Tywin was always rich, he had to work for the respect he commands. LF worked for pretty much everything he has since he started as an extremely minor lord. Dany was handed her dragons on a silver platter (or satin filled chest). She has had it a bit easy.
By easy you mean being practically sold as a sex slave by her brother. And then after adapting and overcoming, trusting the wrong person which led to the deaths of her unborn son and husband. Which led to her being abandoned in the desert with a handful of people at her side. And getting backstabbed in Qarth and losing even more people including the person closest to her. And having the warlocks after her head. While being at the opposite side of the world as the one she wants to be. By comparison everyone else, Ned and Jamie excluded, is merely on extended hiking vacations.
I exaggerate for effect, I must confess, but "had it easy?"
Oh she had a hard life, sure. But all she did to gain the dragons - and therefore her power - was walk into the fire pyre and since then she's been rolling on from that event.

Remember when she had to lead her people through a vast desert wasteland, possibly to their deaths? Or when she had to walk into a tower with potentially dangerous warlocks? She's so confident precisely because she has overcome so many challenges. I don't think I even need to mention the fact that (before she obtained her dragons) she was repeatedly raped by Khal Drogo and had to adapt to living in an entirely new culture.
I never believed, but when you see the truth, when it's right there in front of you as real as those iron bars, how can you deny her God is real?
Apologies if this has already been covered, but why is there a break next week?

Dany freeing the slaves in Astapor was definitely more strategic than "Dragons, go". Setting up the deal and then double crossing the guy IS one of the older tricks in the book, but still, it was a pretty smart move. I mean, dragons or not, I don't think Hodor would've pulled it off. Or Joffrey or Viserys.

Loved this quote.

Holy shit, Tywin was raging.
Makes me think . . . Melissandra was irritated with Thoros because his "mission" was to convert King Robert to the Lord of Light. She has converted Stannis, obviously.
I'm wondering - is the Lord of Light another player in the Game of Thrones? What if he's just some powerful wizard, making a play for the iron throne?
remember Vary's story about the demon voice from the fire?
Aye, but the only reason she was able to even entertain the idea of getting their entire stock of Unsullied was because they wanted a dragon. No dragons and she'd be stuck or dead at the first slaver city.
But I think I'm done playing a devil's advocate for this position. I don't mind Danys story so far at all.
Recap time!
