To be fair it's not like they actually had games to show off in the past. They have 4 console titles to show off at e3 without any unanounced stuff from Japan and another 2 more from the west. They actually have lots of games for the first time in a while.

Ah I see, my first thought was that you were suggesting that Versus will never come out when you said the ship has sailed.
Well it's possible it will say Final Fantasy XV on the list, but we might not know if it's Versus or not until the reveal.

I'm glad that they changed battle system dramatically... Turn based is not cool anymore.
They've moved the primary branding to Lightning, not XIII. LR is also probably massively cheaper than Versus, so the stakes are lower.

I don't think they feel nearly as strong as Gaf but I'm sure it's a factor why they decided not to go with XIII-3.

Doesn't matter. LR should be cheaper than Versus but I doubt SE considers the FF XIII series as filthy as you guys.
I think the most accurate term for what they've done is called rinsing the fans. That's pretty much the whole mindset behind it.

The only 'stigma' on 13 is from vocal members on this board, 13 sold a ton and received generally positive reviews. 13-2 received generally positive reviews as well. We have already been down this road though. Not to mention SE's CORE audience in Japan seem to love Lightning just fine. We know you didn't like it Kagari but you surely understand that with the sales of the first game and the profitability from the sequel and DLC, it makes complete business sense for a third chapter. Even SE knows this will be the last as they have said REPEATEDLY that the 13 saga ends with LR. Why are people thinking more will come??? The only way we will see another FFXIII game is if LR is a mega hit and that seems very unlikely.
Maybe if Versus comes out and 14 gets the success it deserves, SE can afford to branch out once again. I keep seeing people harping for new games in so many classic series but the bottom line is that those games just did not sell well enough to warrant a chance in this very difficult time.

They had the resources to do this for cheap and the previous game was a worldwide hit. SE is a business, people, and they need profit.... This white knight crap is getting so out of hand.
Plus FFXIII-2 was not a bad game at all. Toriyama is just a mediocre director.

I'm amongst the minority that actually doesn't hate XIII or Lightning. They were decent to good JRPGs, but just not outstanding Final Fantasys. I'm just burnt out on the characters and story because its all SE has given us this generation. I'm ready for something new, preferably Versus.

Besides one of my problems with the characters is generally...
You'd think denizens of Cocoon and the actual planet Gran Pulse would know about it since Cocoon is data integrated and certain characters are employed into certain occupations but lolnope just a bunch of dumbass kids in adult bodies save for Sazh.
In fact was it so hard to have an in depth character?
Is it too difficult to try and have an intelligent individual instead of a cliche dummy?
One that can make decisions based on their knowledge and position. Basically society in a certain fantasy setting has rules/laws and the character knows about these and has to abide by them through their own moral standing alongside what is expected out of them in legal terms.
Let's give our bozo ***** Lightning a dignified example.
If you are Guardian Corp it should be natural you know the layout of the city you work in, therefore if a riot occurs you know the proper procedures to take with quelling said riot and if you need to evacuate civilians. Stuff like that.
Most of the time I see people being thrust into situations where you kill this, kill that. Go here. Go there.
Rather mindless incoherent tasks where you are seemingly guided along a preset path.
What I want is someone who knows the world they live in, and can explore it on a whim and create diverse story paths that create a large branching narrative that can change dramatically based on protag decision making. Not this over the shoulder bs you are subjected to.
It's complicated but if pulled off well can make it be so much more dynamic as opposed to bland.
But that's not FF. XIII rode on the concept of Fate. The concept that you ultimately did not have a choice in anything you did. And boy does it show.
Just check metacritic. That's what I based my statement on.
I agree it is time to move on. I want LR to be the end of the 13 saga. I just hope LR has a satisfying ending.
I didn't say XIII was 'filthy'. They already dropped XIII from Agito, and they will for Versus. LR is a XIII game, Versus never was.
In metacritic I trust.

Going from 90+ MC for VII-X to 83 for XIII is quite the drop.
The game's metascore is 83, which they define as 'Generally favorable reviews' based on 83 Critics. That is quite a good pool to wade through for information. This is not like 5 'OMG It is the GREATEST' game reviews you see often on Gamefaqs.
Such is the way of AAA gaming.

And I'm kind of lost as to the point you're trying to make about her character here. The beginning of the game is basically exactly what you asked for.
As a member of the Guardian Corps, she knows where the Ark is being taken in quarantine that has crystallized Serah in it. She knows about the purge, and knows where they are rounding up civilians. She uses this knowledge to blend in with the civilians and infiltrate the train so she can get to the Ark.
Then basically the rest of the game is her leading Hope to outlying areas where they won't run into as much police presence, like the Gapra Whitewood and the Vile Peaks. When they change their plan and decide to go right at the Sanctum and attack head on, she tells them to go to Palumporum and Eden.
In contrast, Vanille, Fang, Sazh and Snow don't really know where to go and all get captured and confronted by various Sanctum/Psicom/Guardian Corps forces before Lightning saves them and they meet up again.

I hope that if XV is not Versus and is its own thing, then it's a FFV-style parody of the series. They should probably step away from the navel gazing in their plots for now since it's becoming a bit too standard

Point is, FFXIII interrupted a streak of highly critically acclaimed main entries and while metascore is in no way a metric for quality, it's one of the few indicators for media and fan reception. And in that regard, FF XIII is a bit of an anomaly. I don't know how that's even arguable.

XIII has it's fans, and that's ok, but by and large there is very little hype for Lightning Returns. Now, this'll probably change slightly when it's shown at E3, but anticipation for this new installment seems to be even less than XIII-2, and that just dropped off the radar after it launched.
I wasn't talking about you when saying that. Just in general to the people who think XIII is complete garbage and Versus needs to get away from that, etc.
If they drop the name I doubt it's going to be to get away from how bad FF XIII is or whatever. Just that they're acknowledging that it's different enough to be its own thing, just like Type-0.
