The conference was completely what I expected, and for that It was pretty good. We all know that they held back games until E3; so we should all be waiting until E3 before passing final judgement on any of the systems

Because instead of talking about the hardware ran full steam into "Hey, we invented the PVR!" and then continued into "Here's all this shit that you already do on every device that you own with a browser except we're going to stick it behind a pay wall and restrict it to the USA as well."

I think people who are talking about being 'misled' are... weird. But people who talk about being disappointed with the conference? Absolutely legitimate when you see what was shown, as well as what it is being compared against (Ps4 reveal).
If it's job is to get people excited, it did poorly with me, and probably others like me.

I'd say MS have a lot more to prove than Sony, going into E3.
Nintendo is in a pretty comfortable place for its hardcore demographic (who know they'll be getting Smash bros and Mario etc) and if the rumours are anything to go by then Sony will have a big show.
Fingers crossed Microsofts 15 games or whatever prove to be interesting, like that Rare game looks.

That is not my issue with their conference. It is all the negative stuff they included regarding gaming. Offline game fees for used games, requiring a online connection to authorize all installs of games, pushing for online requirements for all games to increase "resources". First party will be always online. There is no way Microsoft is paying for 300,000 servers that they don't plan to utilize.

Again core philosophies, if they're debuting the system without any form of focus of games it bodes poorly for the long term. Gamers have no reason to trust Microsoft will deliver, this was their first chance and they didn't even bother.

I didn't even watch the conference but I already know you'll be eating crow during E3. I don't know what you people expected. It's really hilarious how many of you thought they were going to talk about games when they said themself, they are not talking about games.
Personally, I had no interest in the blind hype of people that'd already made their minds up. Now we know what we're dealing with, I have an opinion.
Then don't bother revealing a games console.
When you have a product that exists only because of games, and you ignore games when making its presence known for the first time....weird.

Well, I agree people shouldn't be surprised or saying they were misled because of the pre-announcement. I think it's still safe to make your buying decisions based on the conference though for a couple reasons.
1) It's clear what MS's vision for the system and Kinect is.
2) They had to have a whole conference just for the non-gaming stuff. I mean, think about that.
It's not hard to see their focus, they have been heading that way for a whole generation and it's obvious the console was designed to be the de facto living room box. That doesn't speak to how successful they will be with it, there certainly has been a market for it and I personally know several current Xbox owners who love this direction. Let's not stick our heads in the sand and pretend we don't know what MS's intentions and design for this is though. The Xbox brand has always been a Trojan Horse, MS has made no intent to hide that.

This will fall on deaf ears loads of gamers saying fuck Xbox etc now will be OMG day one if MS delivers the games at E3.
Like I said in that other thread E3 will be when Sony and MS will have to bring everything they've got to convince me they deserve my money this year.
I won't be making a purchasing decision until then, as nothing Sony has shown yet has 100% convinced me either.
Because this time they have 8 exclusive kinect titles.
Because they already have 15 exclusive games planned for the first year of the thing. Not to mention they've said that the games were going to be at E3 multiple times.

Controlling the device with gestures and voice? Voice control is available in all sort of devices years ago, but who the hell uses that? In what way is controlling a device with gestures more practical then just using a controller? Useless feature.

If the games use the cloud to process (most/all first party games will) then you have to be online. The console itself has to be online to authenticate your disc when you install.
So it is not so "cut and dry" as you are making it.
My analysis:
1. The actual console itself looks... a little weird. A matte strip/gloss finish? Who designed this thing?
2. Approach is night and day from the next-gen PlayStation focus. Microsoft is going for the every-man who just wants to have an all-in-one experience, and not really care about games exclusively. Most of the program was spent talking about new cable integration, third-party television partnerships, and the seamless-ness of Kinect interactivity with the enhanced UI. IMO, the only cool thing out of all of that was Kinect. While not recommended for actual gaming, the fluidity and responsiveness of Kinect and the One (<---that was weird to say/type) was impressive. I can only hope that the PS4 UI is just as seamless. For the rest of it, I just don't care enough about cable to care for those feature sets. Most of that you can get for free on the Internet anyways, so what's the point if it's just gonna be hidden behind a paywall?
Only a few games were actually shown, and most of those were third-party multi-platformers with money-hatted timed exclusives.
3. The hardware might as well be a copypasta of the PlayStation event slides. Literally, the only thing different about the One is the implied assessment of the lack of GDDR5 RAM. They even went with the whole "developers will have full access" shtick. The controller looks like it took a few cues from the Dreamcast of all things, but the overall look is the same.
This tells me the only measurement of success, for both consoles, is going to be games, and whether or not casuals buy into the all-in-one Windows 8 network.
4. They alluded to their first-party partnerships and new IPs for next-gen, but they only showed off one new IP, called Quantum Break, and a next-gen Forza. We'll see at E3 if they'll have the other 13 exclusives they promised ready for play/display, but PS4 has the upper hand here. Sony showed off 2 new IPs (Knack & Driveclub), 2 continuations (Killzone: Shadow Fall & inFAMOUS: Second Son), one new indie game (The Witness), 4 tech demos (Quantic Dream, Capcom, Media Molecule & Square Enix), 2 next-gen ports (Watch_Dogs & Diablo III), and a money-hatted exclusive (Destiny). That's 12 showcases regarding actual software development, with 8 of them being actual games.
Microsoft showed off one new IP (Quantic Break), one continuation (Forza 5), two tech demos alluding to future next-gen titles (EA Sports [Madden, FIFA, UFC & NBA Live] & Infinity Ward [COD: Ghosts]), and one actual gameplay reel (Ghosts).
