Well, as a guy who owned all 3 systems last gen but likes Xbox exclusives the least, I enjoyed the presentation and gimmicks. The new Kinect is great. But I don't see myself buying an Xbox One for all those features when all I want is games. Games that will also be on PS4 or PC. At least Microsoft showed the console itself first. Unlike Nintendo and Sony.

MS in full blown cablebox mode. We already knew that gamers were not their main focus any longer, but this just proved it. Such a boring conference.

Sony's conference was by the books predictable and they didn't show the console, but it still blew MS out of the water...why? Because they showed actual games!

Go figure, games being shown at a GAME console reveal. Yeesh...

Wow, a startlingly bad conference, yesterdays concerns were completely justified. The defenders have been silenced as incompetent Microsoft strike again. Packed full of features nobody wants (No back compat, Kinect, blocked used games), features nobody cares about and features the vast majority of the world can't even use! To top It off they continue to further butcher the only two active IP they have.

You people do realize that E3 is really close right? You people also realize that the differences between consoles will likely be the same as the differences between the 360 and PS3 right?

By the looks of it both consoles are catering to the markets that they have already created and I doubt either of them will see significant increases in market share. These consoles look like status quo.

A couple people on Twitter seemed excited for the Xbox One. These are people who only play games like Call of Duty, FIFA, Madden, etc.

As for myself, nothing today shown interests me, but that could change at E3.

As someone who rarely uses his consoles anymore i'm really tempted to buy this. All it's functions really are impressive and i know there will be games. Lol @ gamers, they're so cute when they are mad

I'm really curious about the ventilation system of this console. It's been a plague this last generation and I'm afraid it may rear its ugly head once again, especially with this "boxy" design.

They literally said that this reveal was going to be about hardware, and a couple games, and that e3 is about the games. Not sure why everyone expected them to blow their game load now, especially after them telling us this.

Something tells me both Sony (PS4) and Microsoft (Xbox One) are announcing their consoles WAY out ahead of them having even pre-Beta level games ready. Seems to me that in both console announcements, everything shown is pretty much pre-rendered, scripted bull-shots.

This does not bode well for the readiness of games on either system, come this Fall/Holiday season.

I know E3 is around the corner, and I expected them to talk a lot about the services and the OS, but I at least wanted to see a couple gameplay reels. Sony at least showed us what KillZone looks like when you're actually playing it.

Anyway, app multitasking still looks cool. It's a useful and unique feature that tablets and smart TVs can't boast yet.

If the games are coming out this year, they are at least in some alpha state, evidenced by things like Battlefield 4, KillZone, and Watch_Dogs.

Just got in from work -Is there a replay available

I dont think much of the black rectangular shiny BOX in the picture

Buying Sony stock before the conference began turned out to be a great decision by me. :-) Unfortunately it was just a small position, but still. 8%! Not so sure if this lasts, though.

From what I read the Xbox was exactly what I suspected and even more focused on the typical MS strategy as expected. But it looks better than the atrociously ugly 360.

The guy from Call of Duty did have a nice shirt though.

I must say I'm not very impressed. The television features did not really pertain to me and as I'm in Europe I'm not even sure how many of them will be compatible/relevant. Similarly I'm extremely wary of the voice recognition that was heavily shown as I've never found any voice recognition programs, that I've used, particularly accurate and as I've a speech impediment I doubt I'm going to get much use. Kinect being pushed so heavily (the large focus on it is mirrored in the word ordering in which "Kinect" was placed before "Controller" throughout) is a worrying sign for me (somebody with little interest in it) and the hardware specifications were kind of brushed over. As far as the actual games shown, that's where I was most disappointed. Yes, with E3 so close it makes sense that a lot of footage would be held for that but I didn't expect for games/game footage/new game announcements to be almost devoid from the show (relative to everything else).

I had thought one of the biggest announcemens was the Fifa Ultimate Team news (the Call of Duty timed exclusive [I assume?] map packs was moderately large too but the Fifa one was more surprising) but it turns out it isn't as phrased ("#FUT14 will be coming to both the PS4 and #XboxOne. Exclusive content for #XboxOne. #FIFA14"). Microsoft confirming 'pre-owned fee' for Xbox One has also significantly detracted from my interest in the console when combined with this show. I do not think it was terrible, but I cannot help but find it very uninteresting. Out of the two pre-E3 conferences, Sony's one has inspired me with much more confidence/excitement than this one has as it managed to provide me with a lot more information (that I felt was relative to me) than the Xbox one has. Also I must admit I'm not really a fan of the name but I do like the box and redesigned controller (even though it's not a very large redesign).

I'm looking certainly forward to seeing what they have planned for E3 however.

The XBONE controller looked like an improvement at least. Can't say I'm hyped for the game "demos" that were shown.

The philosophy of today's conference is very telling of the systems future, if E3 conference doesn't pull some shit out of the bag then Microsoft are going to get smashed.

Well, you sure showed the box Microsoft, but in all other regards the PS4 reveal was way better and more exciting. Even when I think away the game reveals at both conferences (because Microsoft is obviously saving those for E3) the way Sony presented the PS4 was far more in-depth and interesting.

And is it just me, or does Call of Duty: Ghosts (other than the IQ) look worse than Battlefield 3 on current-gen consoles? So much money and all they can produce is dogs with high-res textures?

Wow, the impotent fanboy rage is pretty strong with this one :)

To people decrying its looks: im curious. its a smooth black box, what did you expect, exactly? Rims? Honestly, how is it radically different from the 360 slim, PS2, or the like? Need more big chrome buttons?

They spent way too long on the non gaming features. But, to their credit, they stated outright that they were saving the big reveals and such for E3 (and they damn well need to be, because i promise you Sony has an avalanche planned).

The sad truth is, leading up to EVERY one of these reveals, people work themselves into a fervor expecting they are going to see some manner of earth shattering exclusive announcement. To date, I argue that as far as actual games go, I have yet to see anything of the sort (be it wiiu, ps4, and now xbox1). It seems fated that people invariably create some of the most unbelievable expectations for themselves.

In short, I'd save my curb kicking and magazine-rack-overturning for E3.
ha Exactly, They told us this is a two-part story and this reveal was about hardware and OS, and e3 is about the games. If e3 skimps on the games, then I can see a reason to get angry, but not now.

Agreed. The controller looked nice. The TV integration is really nice for the market that they're going after. The Madden kids (teens and young adult males) are really going to love the fantasy football integration.

This was a shitty reveal just as every console reveal in the history of console reveals has been shitty. I don't think I've ever seen one where the post-conference buzz has been positive.

E3 is right around the corner and that's obviously where they're planning to debut games.

A month from now literally nobody will remember this conference and I think that is kinda the point. They introduced the brand to the market. Let the brand float for a couple weeks and then show some games. People will forget about it again for a while until fall and then during Christmas people will get all excited about buying new things again assuming the economy doesn't take a nose dive.

This is post is very good, gives me warm feelings.

So when consumers go into the shop this Christmas they see an Xbox 360 for $200 and an Xbox One for $300. Hm, 3 > 1 and $200 < $300, guess, I take the 360. (Or perhaps the PS4, since 4>3?).

Don't think this is a good name. Wii U should have been a lesson.

PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4 is simple and easy to understand for the customer.

I am surprised that Microsoft went with the offline pass. I wonder whether Sony will use this now as well, though I believe that they will make it optional for publishers and I am sure EA will use it as well in that case.

Of course Microsoft went with their entertainment focus. I am not sure whether that will play out. People will use their phone or table to control their home environment and not a gaming console.

And it looks like the One is almost nearer to the Wii U than the PS4 in specs. But that will not help Nintendo much, 3rd party games will come out on One/PS4 and shovelware will come out on PS3/Wii U and perhaps 360 if Microsoft does not kill it off like it did with the original Xbox.

E3 is still likely going to be the deciding factor for me on which console I get this holiday.

We're going to see the exclusive games on the One, we're going to see some more PS4 exclusive games; we'll get a picture of what Sony is doing compared to Microsoft in terms of used games and online subs., and we'll get to see Sony's OS for the PS4 as well.

This E3 is going to be one of the biggest of all time. It's make or break it time. I really love everything I've seen about the OS and features of the One, but I still need to see as much of the full picture of I can at E3.

What are the specs like compared to the PS4? (Please don't editorialize.) Can someone explain it to a layman?
