Forza Motorsport 5 announced

Someone post pics of FM2, so we can see what we started with last gen and compare it to what we are starting with this gen.

Gotta love Forza fans

Forza 4: They need to add some race day atmosphere, its to sterile.

Forza 5: WTF is going on with all this atmosphere, that's not my Forza

Lighting still faked too....

Starting with the April 1st leak, and heading into E3, the buildup to FM4 was, for me, one of the best ever. I remember trawling the interwebs daily, desperate for even the slightest tidbit. The fact that we'll be doing it all over again in a matter of weeks, and for a game launching on new hardware, no less, makes me slightly giddy.

Good time ahead, fellas.

Me too. It was an absolute obsession.

That April leak dropping out of nowhere was probably the most exciting videogame-related thing I've ever experienced. It just totally blew me away. Such a massive leap over FM3.

The FM logo looks amazing, i love the change and i think they finally have something very classy. The "Forza Motorsport 5" logo instead looks quite meh.

Forza was the one thing that made me happy. I just wish they had a full on live demo.

Seemed like a big missed opportunity.

come on guys, this is better than pgr.
well, as long as there is more than one city :) for those of you who cant stand race tracks.

after watching a few more times I am calling BS on the video. My love of McLaren blinded me from using critical thinking.

The game won't look like that under gameplay conditions.

It was an ugly trailer. Perhaps an in-engine render, but didn't look to be using in-game physics or anything. Gave the whole video a goofy, pre-baked CG look. Unnatural.

Watch it again.

You will find a lot of imperfections (like any other game) if you look hard enough.

BIG pics incoming sorry...

Holy fuck, they've modelled the HID light scattering through fine stone chips and/or dust on the headlight lens cover. Looks just like the Xenons on my own car (due to stone chip texture on the perspex). Amazing detail.

II think it's fair to say that different people have different opinions on what constitutes atmosphere....

btw kudos to t10 for the first glimpse of nextgen gfx

I find the coating a very nice "nextgen touch", and i think its nice that its there to show day1

hopefully "xbox one" will have some juice for you to do stuff, because Dan, I heard you on that panel talking about "cloud computing" earlier and you got me worried my friend, I tell you that.

Very underwhelmed. Good effort, but Driveclub visually looked miles ahead of this. This was the best thing they showed and it does not really look next gen. It's an improvement, but nowhere near a generational jump.

fer reels

Although FM4 took some tiny steps in the right direction, up until now, the series has had all the personality of a worn-out paper bag. The atmosphere trackside, or in the paddock, is difficult to describe, (and even harder to recreate virtually I'm sure), but there's something electric in the air when racecars are blasting past in anger.

I'm not in favor of Forza going all NFS: Shift, which sometimes took things too far in the other direction, (Willow Springs is supposed to look like a dustbowl, not a fucking circus), but borrowing a few pages from SMS's playbook couldn't hurt.

Looks great to me. :)

bueno, downloading it to my tv right now B)

You GOT to be kidding me, the game in those screens looks freaking gorgeous, do you guys need to nitpick everything?

Yes. It's a last gen issue on a next gen console.

It's weird because it has self shadowing, but the tracks shadows are 100% prebaked.

Its a racing sim. we need gameplay footage.

Sure but read what im saying, the game in those screens looks amazing, whatever is gameplay/realtime or not and this guy is already nitpicking those screens. To me those screens looks soo good yet he is looking for any minor detail to find a flaw.

Like I said above, there's clearly no physics or anything else at work here. It's a pre-baked video (that may or may not be actively rendered in-engine) so it's not being taxed in any way. Nothing (physics, effects, motion, AI, etc) is being actively rendered alongside it. It may as well be CG.

Anyhow, I don't buy it. Not because it looked too good, but because it looked too goofy and wonky. Motion was totally unnatural (because it was pre-baked).

I think it's fair to say "in-game" refers to visuals being dynamically produced in real-time by the system. We've been informed that the visuals for the trailers fit this criteria.

These FM5 shots look more feasible when looking at the high res images (minus the IQ), but please keep in mind the sort of things they originally showed for past games

These were showing off autovista mode, but real autovista mode didn't look as good (I wasn't able to find the real-time version showing inferior ground texture).

Reminded me of Grid, seems Turn 10 has given up on trying to look as realistic as possible. Strange trailer, to feature only two cars. Looks good, though.

It looks great. But here is one thing.

If that lighting is prebaked, you know what that means?

There is no day night cycle, and "night races" (if they are confirmed) are preset.

How did it work in Forza Horizon? Didn't that have a day night cycle?
