Forza Motorsport 5 announced

How did it work in Forza Horizon? Didn't that have a day night cycle?

Yes, and they did it perfectly in that game. I don't know why they are going back to their Forza 3 methods of lighting.

EDIT: Looking at it again, the environment didn't really cast many shadows, and when they did, they were very limited.

It looks great. But here is one thing.

If that lighting is prebaked, you know what that means?

There is no day night cycle, and "night races" (if they are confirmed) are preset.

They didnt seem to have any problem with Forza Horizon........ Why dont we wait until E3, im sure the game is going to have night races, presets or not.

Only interesting thing for the One I've seen so far. And we already knew it was coming..

What worries me is that most of the XB1's TV, web and Kinect features mentioned today are either pointless or useless in my game room with the console strapped to my racing rig. Right now, if I'm honest, PS4 appeals to me more than XB1 does, which means I might not buy an XB1, which in turn means I might never own FM5. This thought saddens me.

Considering it's already in place in Horizon, you appear to be making a lot of nonsensical assumptions to try to give yourself a bad impression of the game. You're criticizing the execution of features which haven't been announced.

Its a racing sim. we need gameplay footage.

Agree 100%. We need direct feed gameplay or some direct feed screen captures of gameplay with the hud and all to really judge this thing. The video looked good and I know someone is saying it is not CG, but video's don't mean shit to me unless it contains some footage of actual in-game gameplay.

For a reveal and them not to show ANY in-game footage is a big no no. At least Sony showed some actual gameplay and MS had 3 months to get their shit together and they kind dropped the ball a bit. I still think overall it was a good show, but I think they should of had a longer show, have Dan come out after that video and do a quick lap around that track so we could of seen real gameplay.

Exactly. All the hair-splitting over CG vs. in-game/in-engine is pointless. It's all about actual gameplay. Without that, it's all just smoke and mirrors.

Looking at Forza Horizon AGAIN, I was wrong.

They use the same shadowing method in the other Forzas. Ie. that "Top down" shadow mapping.

They got day night to work that way, so it can work on this one too.

Video presentation looked great as expected; will wait for actual game details before getting hyped.

The cars are amazing and the settings (building) are quite good. The only problem is the lighting which confers a "plastic look".
But all in all, an impressive first entry.

IQ looks too clean for that to be running on a 1.23TFLOPS console, these are clearly bullshots.

Edit: Lightning still doesn't look very natural.

Wait for E3 man. They had like 3 minutes of time devoted to Forza 5 in the presentation.

So, will it have Porsches in-game, or will it be like Forza 4, with RUF in-game and Porsche extra?

I just want to take the 918 Spyder for a spin...

btw kudos to t10 for the first glimpse of nextgen gfx

I find the coating a very nice "nextgen touch", and i think its nice that its there to show day1

hopefully "xbox one" will have some juice for you to do stuff, because Dan, I heard you on that panel talking about "cloud computing" earlier and you got me worried my friend, I tell you that.

Pretty sure GT3 on the PS2 has this.

Finally saw it. First thoughts:

Looks amazing, if it's indeed real-time in-game.

Turn10 can't cut a classy trailer to save their lives.

The driver helmet still looks absolutely retarded.

Edit - Link to a 1080p version?

The trailer didn't click for me. I will (hopefully) still buy the shit out of it depending on the rest of the Xbox One "features" ... but I want to see in-game more than anything.

I'm just hoping they made the career mode more exciting. It's amazing that neither of the sim-esque racers can really nail down a great career mode. GT is archaic and Forza is almost too X, X, X, X, race, repeat.

I'm really hoping (outside of visuals) that Forza steps up the features outside of social and online shit.

I presume XID will remain compatible, X360 has been using Xinput 1.2 (don't quote me on this), while all new devices are suing Xinput 1.4. But common logic says it just have to be supported. If not, many many people would be pissed. But I am almost certain it will.

Also, what happened, why did you sold the wheel? I need you mate, we have a damn fight to fight, you were my only true comrade in the Linearity Wars™... I am doomed now, don't do this :/

Kept the clubsport wheel, didn't have a use for the PWTS anymore and made a reasonable bet that it wouldn't be compatible with the next xbox without some sort of mod or new electronics.

All I'll need to do is pick up whatever wheel is the next 900 degree cross platform wheel.

I prefer GT's career mode, although it has been the exact same thing for the past decade. Two reasons:
- Forces you to drive different cars for different events
- Clear sense of progression

But really, how 'exciting' can they really make a career mode? It's just a case of entering a race, coming 1st, getting prize money, winning a car, rinse, and repeat.

How does Forza's career mode not encourage you to drive different cars to different events?

That was the big change from FM2 > FM3, and refined in FM4. It was one of the main goals and IMO they did well with it with the game dynamically changing the events offered, and including one in the choices that always had to do with a car you haven't driven yet.

I agree with the idea of progression though. I think Forza has a pretty good sense of progression, it's just sorta redundant and boring.

Doesn't it automatically choose events for you based on your car? Or it gives you a choice out of 2/3? My memory is sketchy but FM3 is the game where I seriously invested my time.

2/3 were for the car your currently in, the last one was for another car in your garage that qualifies, and if permitting, one you haven't driven yet.

looking at the trailer i can see some jaggies in the shadows so it maybe ingame, phil spencer said it was running on X1 dev kits

if it is in game footage it certainly looks better then drive club.

Just as I remember. It's the same for FM4. There is no sense of progress in FM's 'career' mode. It feels like endless races on the same tracks over and over again.

I am calling this BS video (much like PD do with their cinematic trailer). I'm more interested in seeing an actual in-engine replay (because gameplay may feature even lower fidelity models which won't matter because at that point people are racing and not being passive watchers).

Looks good. Didn't one of the "insiders" say the Xbox games shown now would get a visual downgrade at release though?

If it has Horizon's daytime/night time feature that'd be incredible.

The game looks amazing so far. Love it. So glad it's a launch title, it'll probably end up being one of my most played games for the Xbox One.

Good graphics. But it looks like they are fully going for the arcade game visual style.

The lighting almost looks like Outrun Online.

It's shame because I wanted to be wowed.

Ok now this look incredible and the first time I've been impressed by next gen's graphics, wow best looking racer, nay game ever.

I will wait until I see offscreen footage since Turn 10 has been known to claim real time and then bullshit their way out upon release looking nothing like these promo trailers.

What I've learned today.

You can't make anyone happy.

I was all smiles watching this, I dunno what's wrong with everyone.
