Yeah... as if all the people who bought a Kinect are somehow excited for more of that bullshit. We saw how that strategy has been working out for Nintendo.

You aren't going to fool people twice with the same gimmick, no matter how much you claim it's been improved.
 
It's quite possible you're right, it could become the best selling console of this generation. In doing so it will likely kill the used game market and stifle independent game development, among other things. It will certainly do excellent in America. Japan is lost and Europe is yet to be determined, but I imagine given that none of the services emphasized at the XBO event applies to European consumers, its competitor will have the edge there (even with exclusive FIFA "content" for the XBO).

What I hope to see is a clear market leader, one way or the other, and a strong challenger with both consoles outperforming their seventh generation sales. I want to see both consoles succeed because that is the only way we will continue to have growth and innovation in the industry.
 
I'm a hardcore gamer with high standards.

I didn't need a 360, I won't need a Xbone.

I also don't think anyone outside of the USA will care, so it won't br number 1.
 
As bad as they start the war, at least for gamer's heart, it could still be a mainstream success sure. But that would mean the videogame market will expand i think.

Cause there is zero reason the PS4 doesn't do at least better than the PS3. It just has everything it had plus more and way less of its past problems. It's also best placed to be the gamer's choice this time.

So i would say if the actual worldwide non nintendo market is 50/50 for Microsoft and Sony, there is no reason Sony doesn't win 10-20% at least this time if they don't screw something.

But who knows this gen it was maybe 160 miilion, 80M each roughly. Next one Sony could take 100M of it, maybe more who knows, 120 ? Now, Microsoft could take the 40M left and win 40 more with the mainstream appeal. But who knows if that will work.

We really don't know much right now...
 
I think they will stay strong in USA but they will face more competition in USA from PS4 this time as well, I also think MS will lose badly outside USA
 
I think the x1 will get off to a great start due to massive marketing, but won't hold up well as the years go on and the novelty of the gimmicks wears off.

This is pretty hyperbolic. Why will Kinect 2 become the next Wiimote? Why would existing 360/Kinect owners upgrade to the Xbone?

Gears is basically dead sadly and it doesn't seem to have that appeal the others have.

Did you not see the shitstorm of bombs they dropped? Terrible PR all around. This would fall under marketing. The Xbone already has a negative view among informed core gamers, which are the ones who buy video game consoles at launch, not the casuals (the Wii is an exception).

I can't comment one exclusives since we don't know anything about them really. You can say they will exist, but that would just be grasping at straws.

Your innovation argument is purely wishful thinking and what seems to be like marketing.

And why do you ignore price completely?

Depends on where you're talking. In the US the 360 continues to sell the best. Microsoft is pretty good at marketing the 360 and it shows. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it does lead early on in the US which by the looks of things is what they're aiming to capture. Europe will be something they have to really pull some crazy shit to get any traction since a lot of the features don't tend to carry overseas but we'll see. Nailing a Fifa first year next gen exclusive would have done it, but there is no way EA would have ever agreed to that.

Also, I'm still holding out hope that either Sony or Microsoft will land GTA V for their respective system. I would much rather prefer to play the game on hardware that could really show off the game.

Most "Dudebro's" buy their games used at Gamestop, which means one of the main features of the One--charging you for a used disc--is going to turn them off big-time.

Guess what Dudebro's played before Xbox game along? PlayStations.
 
Will be number one because of people who dont play any games on it (maybe cod and fifa), and that only in the US. Outside of U.S. and maybe U.K. i see absolute no chance for Xbox One to sale more than PS4.

The Software Sales is what will be interesting. How many actual gamers will be on each console?
 
I just dont understand the logic. PS3 has been outselling the 360 for a while now and MS has been going downhill ever since Kinect came out. What makes you think all of a sudden MS is going to SURGE like whoa out of nowhere especially after the way the Xbox One is shaping up? (DRM, Used games, etc). I do not think the XB1 will bomb, but I fail to see how its just going to come out of nowhere and make a spash.
 
During the PS2 gen, I played everything on it except for the Xbox exclusives, during this gen, I played nearly everything on the X360, because I preferred the controller, and exclusives on the PS3. At this point, I have no interest in an X1, because the ONLY exclusive that might make me buy one, Alan Wake 2, I've been told isn't coming...not now, certainly and, maybe, not ever. If that's the case, I can live without Halo, GoW, and exclusive FIFA content, a series of games from which I've never bought a single game. On the other hand, given the superiority of MLB: The Show, which is not only the best baseball game, but the best sports game, by a wide margin, I'll always have a Playstation system...

Precisely why the Xbone is a weird product.
The dudebros buy used games, they are afterall the principal costumer base of used-games retailers such as Gamestop. Once they hear that they can no longer buy used games, or have to pay fees, and find out that the PS4 doesn't have fees/allows for used games they will flock to the alternative console (especially as none of their 360 cheevos are moved over to Xbone).

Soccer moms will just go for whatever is popular, and Sony can spend just as much as MS on ads. Thing is, Sony will have a much easier battle whereas MS will have to do the whole "numbers don't matter"-game. Or the soccer moms will just go to the new 99 dollar Xbox 360.
 
The xbone looks very catered to the US so if the Kinect tv and sports interface is well implemented and popular , it could be number one in the US. however, the thread title doesn't specify region which implies worldwide , which is laughable.

Ding ding ding! MS has such a myopic world view it's unbelievable. They *might* lead in the US but it's a great big world out there that they don't seem to give a shit about.
 
I'm seriously wondering how One could have a price advantage over ps4, unless Microsoft decides to go crazy loss leader.

The 40nm processor and its associated costs (PSU, heatsink, fan, mobo size - look at the size of that console!) combined with the embedded ram and Kinect 2.0 probably add more to the cost of each One SKU than the ps4's better GPU and GDDR5.
 
I seriously doubt I'll buy one. It won't be the first system I skip, but it could certainly be the first I didn't want. As for if it'll win, I doubt it, but anything is possible.

I'm with you and also feel confident in saying I won't even when the price goes down and there's a revision. When I eventually make the jump to next gen it'll be with only one console (likely the PS4).

Also, the success will come down as always to marketing and word of mouth. Anecdotally, my sister, who knows very little about gaming besides playing the Sims on PC asked me if I knew about "the new Xbox that blocks used games". That word of mouth (in addition to still paying for Live if Sony keeps their free service and plus) could really hurt it in the long run.

I don't think it'll be a failure, but it won't be a "Wii like" seller either.
 
Unless the exclusives aren't as predictable as I'm anticipating, I can't see any reason to get one. PS4/Wii U/PC and the handhelds will be more than enough for me regardless.
 
I don't understand why criticisms of the One are being met with sales-potential for rebuttals. The fact I dislike a lot of things about the system and its direction won't change if it tops the charts.

First holiday sales in US might be big but the console will soon just fade away. They need to bring new consoles every year to keep the casuals in the upgrade loop like apple does.
 
Just like Windows 8 has flopped all around, and Office 365, this will be the same. The difference is that in this case MSFT doesn't have a monopoly and the competition will destroy the Xbox.

This WILL be a flop, Saturn 2 without the great games, you'll see third parties leaving the ship as soon as scalpers begin returning thousands of unsold boxes to stores.
 
I'd like to think I have some modicum of self-control and won't surrender to such anti-consumerist bullshit just because I need a fix of a gaming series.

Well, if this isn't a whole lot of empty marketing speak and supposition, with the implicit correlation of sales and merit as the proverbial cherry. "I am a gamer", but that does not mean I'm going to shell my money out for any given TV Box if there's enough rainbow woo vomit spun around it. Keep shilling for dem shillings.
