Microsoft's E3 presser should be fine so long as the third-party titles they show look graphically impressive (even if they're running off PCs coded to PS4-spec and not X1 spec - as disingenuous as that might be) and the first-party titles highlight gameplay application of the X1's advantages - i.e. cloud-based updates, Kinect 2.0 - in meaningful ways that can't be dismissed as a mere gimmick.
A non-CGI in-engine teaser trailer for the next Gears/Halo title couldn't hurt, either.
They won't be able to beat Sony in a graphic fidelity war as that's evidently a losing battle for them... but they can at least throw up enough smoke & mirrors to convince most of the ignorant gamers tuning in that they're technically equivalent.
That being said, I would pay anything to see Sony go balls-to-the-wall 1990s era "Sega attack ads against Nintendo" aggressive with their marketing this fall.
