Forza Motorsport 5 announced

You should have never been "In"!

Seriously I told you guys a long time ago NOT to support this console(360) and to get your get racing game fix on the PC. Now you're going to get burned with these Fanatec wheels not being useable on the X1.

The PC has and will always be the no.1 system to play racing games/sims. With pCars, Asetto Corsa, rFactor 2, F1 2013, GRID 2, iRacing, and a *shitload* of arcade racing games via emulation at your disposal, there is NO reason to get an Xbox One! None!

Come on over where the grass is greener guys. I promise you won't regret it.

Devil's advocate:

The grass might be green, but you have to plant the seeds yourself. Also, to play with others on the grass you have to make sure the other players have planted exactly the same seeds as you have.

Seriously, I used to play a lot of PC racing sims, but they all have something missing. From your list above F1 2013 and Shift is utter trash. Grid is hardly a sim. pCars and iRacing are certainly really good sims, but iracing's subscription and IAP puts me off. iRacing is tempting, but I am afraid I don't have the time to play as much to justify the monthly fee.

pCars is the PC racing sim I'm currently most interested in and have the highest hopes for.

IF Fanatec or MS shows a solution for using 360 wheels on the One Forza 5 will bring more enjoyment to more people than any PC racing sim ever can.

Welp, time to save up for another fanatech wheel I guess.

Why must you always get my hopes up? Man, those cars, on that track... Add dynamic weather so its dry down the bottom and raining/hailing up the top of the mountain.... UGH RACER OF FOREVER.

I hear you mate, I hear you.

It seems shaneus has pulled a Matt Southern on us..

He's gone "Borderline Insane" with PGR.

Surely you're just trolling me at this point.

I've posted dozens of times in that thread. I was one of the first ones that posted in that thread and even encouraged McClaren777 to start it.

Fuck, you even quoted me in there. Um... whoops? ;)

Gone? I've been there for a while. Ever since I was called out by Lucid on their FB page, I just figured that it couldn't get any worse and decided to make the most of it.

Isamu, my problem is that there is no "complete pack" right now like forza is on pc.

yes, iracing is a good sim, but its just not fun enough for me, and the majority there has mixed computer racing with real life. so not an equal package for my tastes. just doesnt work as my goto game.

pcars, I missed the funding thing and have no way to get my hands on a beta.
I can see it looks good,
but the developers previous games where shift, shift2 and ferrari legends. right?

hardly forza caliber on gameplay imo. I will have to test before I'm in a hurry to dismiss forza.

gt6 wont cut it against forza5, and gt7, if we are lucky we'll get in a couple of years.

of course you are right about xbox, and paying for expensive proprietary steering wheels is only a small part of my problem. my main problem is I dont like at all where xbox is heading.
but still, not easy to dismiss forza, at least not yet...

When you see the games that are being made for XBO at E3, you'll be happy. We're doing amazing things with Forza 5.

We shall see..

It'll be interesting to see in what way,if any, Turn 10 will utilize the new Kinect. Seeing how the device comes with the Xbox, i'm pretty sure people would at least be curious to see how it would work.

Man, I'm exactly the same... I want something that's a self-contained experience on PC, even if it is dumbed down a little (compared to the "hard" sims) to the level of Forza or GT, but it seems it's too much either one way or the other with no decent middle ground.

pCARS *is* shaping up to be the answer to all that, with discussions about career modes that will progress through karting and base-tier tourers and single-make championships (a la the Renault thing in rFactor 2) and more. I'm sure there's more solid info than that, but it's been a while since I caught up on all the progress.

If it eases your mind at all, they have Nic Hamilton (Lewis' brother) and Ben Collins on board, doing testing at various times and offering a decent amount of feedback (Nic's is particularly in-depth and interesting to read). They certainly don't seem to be doing this by halves, so I think you can rest easy for now.

PS. What's that from, sal?

its not like I'm loosing any sleep over it :)
but for me, its more important who's doing the coding, not who's playtesting.
I guess that the bunch of you guys I know from here, those of you that jumped in the funding thing, are imo able to provide all the feedback needed for a successful game. but can the coder code it?
forza I like so much, not because niky lauda playtested it, or because the flashy gfx, but because the fucker that writes the code, writes some good fuckin' code. 8)

Is that in the current build or just mock-ups?

BTW That's *exactly* what I want from a driving game. Clear layout with no needless info, no awkward human 3D models... spot on. Might not fly with the console/more casual crowd though, so I guess those screens will more likely be interspersed with more casual-friendly front-endedness.

Perfect Dark Zero was equally appalling.

Perfect Dark Zero had parallax mapping, your argument is invalid.
Perfect Dark Zero had some wonky art sometimes and ugly character models, but the lightning and texture work was quite nice.
Temple. Snow level.

Forza 2 was just ugly everywhere (even the intro with the camera glued to the GTR R34's textured head light) and was delayed a lot and released eventually in 2007. I remember in this game play video being stunned by the huge polygon edges. I wasn't used to seeing polygon edges like this in a 360 game and that was the view I prefered in racing games without a cockpit view.

Yep.

Still waiting for Ian to say hello.
Ian, you can jump in anytime you like mate. We wont bight, I promise.

Hey Sal,

I've been keeping an eye on this thread noting all your feedback and I know you all have questions about Forza Motosport 5, but as of right now I don't really have anything additional to add to what we've already released. However we'll of course be revealing further details about the game in due course.

Before I disappear Homer-style into my bush (great gif btw!), Major Nelson has recently released the audio from the Xbox One Architecture Panel, featuring our very own Dan Greenawalt. Some of you might find it interesting?

http://majornelson.com/cast/2013/05/22/xbox-one-architecture-panel/

I just now noticed that they slightly changed Forza logo. I like it, is not anymore "m" like "III" and looks more dynamic. Great touch.

Hey there Helios !
your avatar is the old Forza Motorsport logo :P

Not to pressure you guys, but you're the only ones who could sell me a Xone !

Not current. Took it like 2 or 3 weeks ago.

None of it worked, but it shows what direction they're going.

Hey there Helios - please reassure us that FM5 hasn't gone all 'casual/brodude/festival' on us.

Surely that's not under NDA?

PS easy on the Kinect features. The whole planet hates them already.

Thanks!

Good to finally hear from you!

I'm not even going to bother asking anything but I do want to say, please don't leave us hanging for too long. The anticipation of what's to come is killing me.

Hey guys,

I don't want to cherry pick answering certain questions as I don't want to give the impression that a non-answer to anything means something bad.

As Phil Spencer said during the announce more is coming at E3, and I think it might be best for us to show you what we have in store for you with Forza Motorsport 5 there, rather than for me try at best to give out some vague answers here which might be open to misinterpretation.

As for me pulling Dan's beard that might be a bit tricky, what with me being UK based lol :D

What about....

If we loved Forza 4, will we love Forza 5? ;]

Fair enough though, understand your position and look forward to seeing new stuff.

This is nothing against you Helios, I've been following you since F1 2010 on the CM forums and you always been a stand up guy...

That being said, I'm so fucking tired of hearing PR talk left and right. I know it's part of the "game" but still, it pisses me off. This week has been terrible for that.

The biggest issue that needs to be confirmed is the wheels.. why that is a PR answer to be determined later is kinda weird, but whatever.. this whole week of Microsoft feels like its been dropped and completely caught them with their pants down.

Agreed, but it's the same for all consoles and games. If Helious should talk about features he might inadvertently mislead us. Not from being untruthful, it's just simply that features might be added and/or scrapped from now to release. Remember che? He's gone from Turn10 for a reason...

Who's Ian? From SMS?

PS. That video, holy crap that is amazing. I wish there was some repository where they just had videos like that which I could watch. I think that might escape the work filters ;)

Top comment is the best:
"My girlfriend asked why is it on a treadmill? FOR FUCK SAKE WOMAN, ARE YOU STUPID?"

BRB, watching again. I will make it my life's goal to create something like animated GIFs, but for sounds. Then I can post a clip of that everywhere.

Edit: Holy crap, Dan looks like Eagleheart!

I just hope you (T10) will simply resolve all questions.

Right now wheel situation is for me and many gamers out there buy/no buy question.

Are people really expecting Turn 10 to answer anything at the moment?
Not going to happen.
Yes, the wheel problem is something I would like clarified as well, but I don't expect that answer on a forum. It most certainly would come from an official channel somewhere.

Ian=Helios.

Yeah, that comment was hilarious.
Seriously, I could watch cars on the rolling road all fucking day. It's a fetish..
Hopefully, TURN 10 has a working dyno in the game so we could do just that.
Oh, how I am dying for a dyno.

We need a dyno sim. Could you imagine that? F2P, comes with one or two real cars as a token thing, maybe charge five bucks a car, but offer complete control over the acceleration and gear changes, with options to have the engine cover on or off. But simulated perfectly.

As if everyone in this thread wouldn't buy the shit out of it.

I hear you mate, I hear you.

It seems shaneus has pulled a Matt Southern on us..

He's gone "Borderline Insane" with PGR.

I wonder how cheap the licensing for ford Australia vehicles is now that ford is pulling out of local manufacturing and they need cash bad.

This will pretty much dictate whether I get an Xbox one or not.

make that 3 of us. I love Forza 4 and can only wonder what'd it feel like with my wheel (G25,GT3RS). I'm not playing Forza 5 with a pad and i'm not putting out 500$ for a Fanatec that supports everything.

You should have never been "In"!

Come on over where the grass is greener guys. I promise you won't regret it.

While the wheel thing is shitty for all the people who bought a Fanatec and Forza (I went the exact opposite direction and got a G27 and GT5), PC sims never had and will never have the car selection of a Forza or Gran Turismo. For me, that's pretty much the appeal of those games. I don't want to drive exclusively supercars or GT-class cars in my sims. I think a modded NFS: Shift with "fixed" physics and stock liveries was the closest thing on PC.

Thanks, it works !
Would have hoped it would install codecs to allow me to open the video in premiere and do a frame by frame analysis, but it still won't work with other players.

Anyway, If that's the kind of IQ we can expect from FM5 in 1080p (and it does look entirely real time) then holy shit. 1.2TF or not, the leap with the X360 is huge already.
And those shaders and textures. Damn.

This is the mistake everyone makes with new console specs, they think something like 1.2TF is not amazing because PC's have cards better than that now but the problem with that is that PC games today are still limited by current gen consoles as the vast majority of PC games are console ports and that puts into peoples minds that next gen consoles will only produce graphics as good or even worse than current PC games and thats completely wrong.
Current PC games are held back by 8yo consoles and next gen games will blow everything currently on PC away big style even though the specs are not amazing compared to some top PC's today.
PC's (good pc's) will be able to run most next gen games as well of course but you can't really look at the Xbox One with its 1.2TF gpu and think that we are not going to get anything better than we currently see on PC because we will and a lot more than that.
Its the reason why new gen console games always look amazing for the first year or so compared to PC games even though there are many PC's out there more powerful technicaly.

guys :)
situation xbox is already fucked up beyond repair
last thing we need to do, is raise expectations to unrealistic levels for forza.

I am betting that T10 again is running on a tight clock (proven already, since f5=day1),
so you know that at one point they are gonna tell them "start compiling you bitches with what you've got ready" or something in those lines.

so lets not set ourselves for disappointment here. there's no way in hell that all tracks are redone from scratch. also there's no way that all the racetracks we wanted will be in, too
.

one "citiy" most probably takes a lot more time and effort to make than one racetrack.
since they showed one city already, I guess there will be more than one. right?

microsoft apparently runs this franchise as the 'jack of all trades' car game. hopefully they dont fuck it up beyond repair, too. (helios take notes!)

I think I completely hate this piece of shit new xbox, and that's definitely a first for a game console to make me think like that,
but dat 1080p forza day 1 ..... 8)

Possibly but they will of been working on this since before even Forza 4 came out so they have had plenty of time, arguably more time than they had between Forza 3 and 4, don't foget that Horizon was developed by another team.

While I love the variety of cars.. I also don't need 1000 cars that take away from adding other things that may be better for the game, I guess is a balancing act.

The people who model the cars are not the ones who code, add or remove features or other engine and tech related things and I don't think the car team at T10 is that big and got a similar budget, considering they outsource a lot of it.

I was just thinking about the possibilities of the new kinect.
Now, i've never used a Kinect before, but if what i'm hearing about the new one is correct, it basically trounces the old one.
Now, I don't really care for it during a race. Traditional wheel and controller is just fine.
But what about in the upgrades/customization/tuning department?

A sort of interactive garage of sorts?

What if we can use kinect to actually paint our cars?
Kind of like a virtual spray booth using motion to simulate a spray gun.

How about using kinect to choose and apply decals and vinyls?
Grab a decal from the option list, then proceed to move around the car and applying it at any place you like.

Same thing with wheels. Navigate through the option list. Pick the set of wheels you want, move up to the car and install wheels.
The same can also be done to body kits.

Using kinect for upgrading performance parts?
The ability to open hoods and apply engine mods?
Grab the part you want, lets say an intake, and proceed to install on engine.

After all this, proceed to the dyno. Again, using Kinect, test and tune your car.

If there's anything that would get me excited for Kinect it would be this.

Obviously, the traditional controller input would still be available for those who don't care for the interactivity.

lol after a while, the fumes and the noise would get the best of your head.
virtual dyno is better for "all day" i think :)
or something like this

p.s. dont daydream, kinect is shit! :)

Come on, dude - you know better than that. Every game has a finite budget. Anything spent on cars isn't being spent elsewhere. You have to rob Peter to pay Paul.

Pit stops.

"Mum! Dad! Little Sis! Get in here quickly! I need to change my tyres!"

I like those ideas for Kinect. After watching the demo of it on Wired, I wish they could implement a 'painting' option. Maybe hold a real brush and you could decorate your car.

I also hope headtracking is more reliable. It was terrible in F4 and I had a huge living room with a chair right in front of it. Would be really cool for wheel users if the hands were tracked on the wheel, but that's probably asking a lot.

Speaking of wheels and asking. Can we use Fanatec on XB1? (had to be done - would probably be my forum signature if we had them)

all signs point to "no". its a microsoft thing, not t10 fault, but I cant help but remember how kaz of polyphony complained to sony about the lack of rumble in the first version of ps3...
maybe Dan should at least do that, or even more, since everybody who bought them fanatec wheels bought them exclusively for forza..

That is the only thing we need to know. Features and other things can wait for E3 or other shows before release.
If Fanatec CSR Elite on X1 will work than i'll get X1, otherwise :-(

Helios, you need to yank Dan's beard and kick him in the balls every single day until he sorts this shit out. Do you understand the incredulity and backlash that will happen if FM5 launches without FFB wheel support? Turn 10 would be a laughing stock. Do you know that I (and thousands of other Fanatec owners) won't even consider buying an XBone, let alone FM5, if our expensive racing rigs aren't supported?

(Disclaimer: I know Dan isn't in charge of these decisions but he must carry some weight with the MS suits, especially now that he looks like an Eastern European gangster).
