Forza Motorsport 5 announced

What a horrible way to start a new page. What is wrong with you guys?

I think the question is whats wrong with those cars :P

Seriously, theres some australian cars that looks nice but thouse...ugg looks like the took the second generation cobra mustang and make it worse.

They really need to adress this wheel situation by E3. I held off buying the latest Fanatec wheel because I knew a situation like this could come up. Money isn't an issue for me but I can't see myself playing Forza 5 without a wheel. And I don't think the wheel user market is big enough for MS to put out their own. I really hope someone at turn10 spoke up at some point to at least allow us usb support.

Haha, I was just about to ask if there has been any word on an Xbox One wheel.

I can't go back to playing Forza with a normal controller; definitely agree with what you said.

i for one love the australian muscle cars. i would buy downloadable title that was nothing but bathurst and australian rides. and i'm in the us. must be the influence of the road warrior/mad max 2 on my life. one of my favorite movies as a kid. i would love to see the interceptor in a game. i know the model it is based off of is in forza but i'm talking full on mad max interceptor.

I dont see how they can show Forza without that huge wheel setup they had for the last 3 games.

Forza 3 was shown off on a D-Box setup iirc and that was never supported, wouldn't be surprised to see a Fanatec there even if they can't be used at launch.

I'm not an Xbox fan. At all. But this franchise is the best racing franchise out there. So good. I once considered getting a 360 just for the forza games.

It doesn't need a steering wheel. Didn't you see the trailer? Forza 5 is all arcadey now, like Split/Second meets Ridge Racer. It'll play awesomely with a gamepad in chase cam. Anyway, you need the bumper buttons for turbo and selecting power-ups.

I'd love it if the First-Party solution for steering wheels for Xbox One was just a USB adapter so that any USB-based wheel could function with it. I'm not holding my breath :/

I'm not letting you get me down any further than I already am. I'm riding this moment the best I can. I'm hanging onto faith and hope.
If you aren't prepared to do this for yourself, then at least do it for the children. Wont somebody please think of the children!

So, this isn't Forza but shit fuck, does this sound orgasmic or what!?

...and it's still a WIP..

I'd prefer THIS kind of sound TBH..... And THIS omg The sound it makes when it downshifts, my god!

Of all the PR bullshit we've been hearing for the last week the whole "Infinite power of the cloud" shit is THE WORST....ughhhhh

Cause I'm a smart individual and it pisses me off when somebody assume that I'm a fucking dumbass who will believe everything they say.
Don't take it so... personal? I would really not get mad at buzzwords. I'm like "This is some bullshit you just put up there. Good luck with whatever that is".

Cloud computing can help gaming, but I don't know how it'd help here in Forza 5. I see cloud computing being a factor in large online games with hundreds of players or more - more with processing AI and helping game servers handle more and bigger things - not with small things that only one person will experience like a rendered background or physics. Plus, cloud computing would have to be able to deliver this graphical data over a standard broadband connection at whatever frame rate the game's running at.

I just don't see how cloud computing helps either offline or online track-based races in Forza at all. I'd love to be wrong, but for now, I think Microsoft is lumping a lot of its silly buzz-word Xbox One features into every "Product Description" they can, whether the thing in particular really uses it or not.

I thought you were going to compare with another Zonda from another game.

Anyway, yes, I've commented on the new iracing sounds before and I really, really like them. They sound amazing really.
Much more going on in the sound effects department. They sound much more 'racier' with plenty of distortion, pops and crackles especially on the overrun. The shifting also sound great much more in line with reality than a lot of other games out there. Lots of oscillation going on.
The V8 Supercar in particular sounds awesome, pretty much spot on. It's much better than FM4's offering.
The only problem with iracing imo, is that doppler and reverb is quite off.

Now, anytime you bastards want to say anything bad about Aussie cars, i'm going to post pictures so you can suffer.

I've got plenty of more where that came from, so keep up the Aussie bashing if you want to see them. I dare you.

I knew a bloke who had one of those. Actually, he had a FAKE one of those, it wasn't even a real one! He was the laughing stock of the neighbourhood because everyone knew it was fake. It had a one litre Fiesta engine in it with a fake-ass exhaust. Dude used to drive around Sydney in it in a cap-sleeve teeshirt like Chachi out of Happy Days, wearing gold visor Oakleys and with his elbow hanging out of the window like some uber-dude, blasting out Billy Ray Cyrus albums from his tape deck. Children used to run away screaming about the 'fake car dude', and women used to laugh at him when he tried to pick them up in it. Funny thing was, if a girl ever talked to him he used to pee his pants, start hyperventilating and then faint. Then shit his pants while unconscious.

This only works if my cloud-like memory is correct and Saladine used to own one of these

Microsoft employs some of the best network engineers in the world to figure out how to make these things work. I know how gaffers like to armchair everything, but really, this stuff goes way over yours and everyone else's heads here. If they say they can do it, then you should absolutely expect they can.

Correction, shit my pants after I regained consciousness.......

Ha ha..!
Sorry dude, couldn't resist. I love you really.

Was I right - you did have one of those?

Yep, still do actually.
You know me, you and Dan will always be tight.

I have a proposition for you mate. How about we stay positive about Forza, The Cloud, the Fanatec issue and everything else that's bugging you, until all is clarified. When we are satisfied that clarification on all issues has been made, and that the answers equal bad news, you can start back up with all the negativity you want. Heck, i'll even join in with you.
What say you?

Yeah, no problem. I'm only messing about. I have faith in Dan, and faith in Thomas. I'm sure E3 will bring the answers we want.

sorry, this is all I saw in there...

*drools*

Because people believe the bullshit. It works, and that in itself makes me mad.

let's talk after Greenwalt reveals FM5 at E3 and explains what advantages his team has found from the cloud computing (which he has already said they are dong) and THEN make our assumptions on if it works

After watching the iracing V8 Supercar sound video again http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnraPw219S0, I've realized that the transmission/engine oscillation or flex, is actually tied in with the physics and not just a sound effect. It actually makes for a more dynamic sounding car.
I have to say, probably the best rendition of a V8 Supercar I've ever heard!

As far as I can tell, there are only a handful of cars in FM4 that feature this.

Edit: Actually, found this at iRacing

Flexible Drivetrains

- All cars now have flex modeled in their drivetrain math, instead of being perfectly rigid. This gives all kinds of subtle and interesting audible and physical engine rpm wobble effects. Note: our model of the detroit locker differential that many of the oval cars use can cause some pretty rough sounding off throttle rpm bouncing as the locker and drivetrain get into a oscillation as the locker clatters between driving the left or right wheels. We're looking into that.

Bloody awesome!!

yeah, infinite power of the cloud my ass!!
that's some very poor damage control there, and its a petty that it found its way on the cover of the best racing game.

graphics are the slowest updated thing in forza, at 60hz. calculations run multiple times that.
so wtf cloud computing is this? and "infinite"? what is it possible to offload for calculation at these rates? let alone for "infinite" improvement...

I can even bet that it wont even use the microsoft servers to have this time PROPER and analytical Leaderboards.
Leaderboards like per car/per class/per track, let alone what amar said for pro leaderboards earlier.
so infinite cloud computing power my ass!! just microsoft falling to new lows imo.
And after forza, the next 20-30 games on xbox that wont hit 60hz, will the cloud be less of an infinite boost for those? We will hear much bull from microsoft, you can bet on that.

and notoriousKTR, forza is one of those games that without the online part, leaderboards, challenges, auction houses, tuning marketplace, liveries shops etc, its really a very small percent of the <<experience>>. let alone multiplayer racing :)

I find it amusing that people just assume that this is some half ass measure that PR came up with to combat a lower spec'd GPU rather, this has been in the plans for a few YEARS. :lol

here is an example of their level of investment in this technology and how they are accomplishing the infrastructure and in time we should see actual results from the games themselves. If not, THEN I will be right there with you to jump up and down about it being bullshit

And NO it will not magically make the GPU better, it will offer better and bigger experiences and who knows what else until some clever people have a chance to play with it

A Microsoft Azure database can have a maximum size of 150 GB (that's why my company uses the Amazon cloud databases). That's by far not enough to store all leaderboards for 5 million users.

If it effected games in any significant way then surely the console would need to be 'always online' and we already know that you don't have to be connected to play Xbox one games.

Imo it will add little extras you can access if you're online or something, i can't see it really effecting graphics or anything or you would surely need to be online to play.
