Wii U Satisfaction Thread

I created a thread about Wii and 50+ Wii games worth buying, and so I did a Wii U pic as well while I was at it.

It was a lot quicker, obviously

I figured it would be convenient when someone pops up and ask what games are worth buying. We always re-write the same list anyway.
I should do a Vita version tomorrow

I didn't include CoD and Darksiders, figured anyone interested in those already have them, but maybe I should add them back.

Alright so I got a Wii U against my better judgement. I want to be there when this train wreck happens. Picked up NSMB and Lego City.

First impressions

1. It wouldn't connect to my wifi (Airport Extreme) and I had to google a solution which involved manually entering my ip and DNS. Huge mistake nintendo, this router isn't exactly uncommon.

2. An hour and a half to patch it and create an account, didn't to play any games the first night.

3. NSMB U looks fantastic in the levels. Absolutely fantastic.

4. NSMB U looks terrible on the world map. No AA at all, what is going on here. Two different engines?

5. I made the mistake of playing SMW before NSMB U. NSMBU may be pretty put it plays so much worse. New Mario feels like a tank.

6. These load times are improved? I can't imagine them before... Lego City especially.

This shit is seriously rough around the edges even after the 3.0 patch. On to lego city!

Edit: OH GOD seriously what is with these Lego City load times.

The update fixes the speed of going back to the OS menu after quitting games and it helps some in starting up the games but once you get to the games themselves, it does not or I don't think has any bearing on the loading times then.

I have an Airport Express and didn't have any problems connecting. Strange the Extreme does.

Lego City load times weren't improved with the OS update.

Really? Going back to the OS still takes a really long time.

Just picked up a Wii U...

I love it!

I am an infrequent poster on Neogaf, but based on what I had read, I expected graphics like PS2 and a dial-up online experience.

I played Black OPS 2 and thought the experience was better than 360 or PS3 (I own both). The second screen is incredible, and displays the potential power of the system. I think it is very innovative overall, and I am very pleased with my purchase.

Can't wait to get started with Mario and Nintendoland!

you weren't joking, 27 posts over 8 years!

Anyways, you should really look forward to multiplayer in nintendo land. It's brilliant! It's good in single player as well, but in multiplayer it truly shines

I really enjoy using my Wii U, but I'm not sold at all with Nintendoland. Enjoyable, yes, but I don't think it shines so much, the multiplayers games are not much better than some of the best Mario Party minigames or similar games (I prefer Pac Man vs than Ghost Chase in Nintendoland, for example), and with the limited selection of games, I think it's getting old pretty quickly.

PS3 is old and shitty, we should expect WiiU to be much faster and smoother. (Yeah, I know, more memory sometimes means longer loading times).

Well, I agree on the first part (bought one, give away, bought a second, is collecting dust), the second, well, software doesn't work like that. Better hardware doesn't make up for badly written and unoptimized code. Heck, even on a machine that blows any of the newer consoles, a bad piece code can make it go slow, crash, or just take so long the hardware is obsolete when it finishes.

And looking at the amount of fixes and corners "ironed", the firmware was not even ready for alpha when they released it. I not so confident about the summer update.

Congrats, enjoy it. :)

Don't forget to download Super Metroid! And you should post more; we're (mostly) nice, really!

Just picked up my WiiU! This console is really slick. Can't wait to try out AC3 and Batman! Going to pick up Injustice when im done with those!

Whaaaaaaat. NSMBU doesn't support the classic controller pro?

Hopefully they patch it in, it makes no sense

Been mentioned a million times, but NSMBU has levels which use tilt. The Pro and Classic Controllers have no tilt functionality.

And before you say they could just use a button, well, they can't since tilt is an analog input whereas a button press is digital. It wouldn't work anywhere near as well.

Right analog stick?

Right analog stick?

Heh the last person I had this convo with said the same thing, but no that won't work either.

How would you run, throw fireballs, jump, etc. on a platform that you're moving with the right stick at the same time? You thumb can't be in two places at once.

Memory has been playing tricks on me lately, but I'm confident saying there was only a single level in the entire game (near the end) with obstacles that required tilt. Ridiculous, really.

I'm thinking three. I know there's at least 2. I suppose your point remains.

I've been an owner since launch and the console gets a lot of play time. However, I've realized that its role inside my house is simple: family games.

I got Ninja Gaiden 3 at launch since it was exclusive. However, I lost my interest when the PS360 versions were announced. That game plays ultra bad with the gamepad and I don't want to spend 50$ for a controller that I don't really need (yet).

I got ZombiU on Christmas and I played it twice at best. I did love the game but this time, I had better games waiting on my other consoles/pc so it took dust.

Today, I did trade these two for Lego Batman 2. I can't wait to play this game.

It's a family console for me. I play Mario/Rayman/NintendoLand/Skylanders Giants with my wife and son. I play some Lego UnderCover and Super Metroid with my son and it's sad that they're single player only so we take turns but when I learned that Lego Batman 2 had good coop, I jumped on it.

Hopefully my son will like it because right now, his favorite game is... Tank Tank Tank, hehe.

Analog hasn't been around forever, and many games that get ported to PC and allow keyboard and mouse controls manage to work just fine. I.E. on a game pad, the left analog stick moved the character at variable speeds while WASD are digital inputs. Everything still works just fine. You either have a modifier button for speed or the user taps at different speeds to emulate analog precision.

This isn't a difficult problem to solve.

I want to start building my library and just bought mass effect 3 off of eBay. I haven't played it anywhere else so I'm going into this one blind. Aside from not being able to really shape the storyline since the first two games aren't on the system, how does this one compare to the other consoles?

Been mulling over transferring my Wii data to Wii U. If I copy my Brawl save onto a separate SD card, do the transfer, then put he SD card back in my Wii, will I still be able to use my old brawl save?

Use Homebrew to back up the NAND memory to an SD card, do the transfer, and then restore the NAND. Works like a charm.

EDIT: I'll clarify that this will allow you to COPY your Wii data to your Wii U rather than transfer it. I did this in case I ever wanted to play MK Wii or Brawl with a GCN controller. I don't know the answer to your original question.

Brawl's data can't be transferred/copied afaik
But theorically, yes you should be able to use it

Edit: or do what Pineconn said.

Well I wish they'd spent the 30 cents or whatever and put the accelerometer in the pro controller then

My console is about 30 feet from my bed, yet i have trouble using gamepad mode for NSMB U. If i leave the door open it works at the foot of my bed. If not, doesn't work. I don't want to leave the door open, suggestions? Shoud I move my Wii U to the top of me entertainment center?

Maybe, depends on what's on the way of the signal. If there's something like a sofa and some low shelves in the direct line of sight then moving it to the top will most likely help.

So I think I found somthing that needs to be looked into. Most of my Wii U games have small pieces of the cover art on the disc peeled off. I wonder if it has to do with the game always spinning in the console. Im at work so I cant take pics but my tekken, call of duty, and I think my mario games all have them.

There is one room. so a total of 3 walls. I live in a condo, pretty sure these aren't lead lined walls. In the room between my bedroom and the living room is my wifi router. What frequency band does the Wii U operate on. I'm assuming UHF? If so, I broadcast on .11b/g. How exactly does Wii U stream games to the pad?

Ok, I think it uses same frequency bands as 11b, so maybe switching the channels your Wlan uses might help, also moving the devices so, that they aren't directly in each others line if sight. 3 walls shouldn't be too much for the system, as I can play upstairs with the signal passing a wall, a wardrobe a floor and a bed..

I enjoy the system for what it is, and I'm looking forward to several strong releases over its life time. Nintendo systems have been, for the last 2 generations, my secondary gaming platform so I don't have a high expectation of game output. When do manage to arrive, I just work then into my PS/Xbox/PC rotation.

You guys know what is so awesome about this system?

A few weeks ago, while it was finally sunny outside and you could go out without freezing to death, I picked up my Wii U, put it on the dining table in the living room and planted myself firmly in a chair outside, playing Super Mario World on the GamePad and checking Miiverse in-between. Not having to rely on the TV is incredible!

I'm worse: I haven't turned mine on this Year!

Blame yourself, you're missing out on a lot of cool stuff.

Does the Wii U's Netflix... now auto play episodes in a series?

(I didn't know where else to ask, and not worth starting a thread for)
