Did the rounds on twitter again.

Yoshida (@yosp) should be waking up pretty soon if he is in Japan currently. He's going to look at his phone and be like "these freaking guys are still at it!?!?"

Day two, yoshi!!!

I think he was awake at its height too, I doubt we'll hear anything from him. I'm hoping for some form of acknowledgement though.

If I buy a game and pay fcking € 60,00 for it then its mine possession. I decide what to do with MINE game.
Whats next, car dealers asking a fee if you buy a used car or it wont start.

Its my fcking game and I decide what happens.

I'll say this.

In all honesty, this whole situation doesn't effect me as much. I don't buy used,. I don't lend out many games nor do I borrow them. I rent a lot but honestly most games I rent aren't great and thus that's why I rented them...but even with all of that. Having options is always better than not.

i get that potentially used games, lending and all that jazz causes dudes to lose money..That sucks but this system only serves to fuck people over more. So I don;t buy tons of used games but what about the kids who loves games but aren't wealthy. People often point to gamespots rip off 55 dollar used games but fuck those...what about the games that are out of print but there used for 20 bucks. I knew a bunch of kids who couldn't afford the new Madden so they bough the two years old versions. They would be fucked over with this system. What about the friends who borrow games? I just didn't try out many games. i stayed in my comfort zone but my brother let me borrow NBA Live whatever. It literally got me into sports, without that I wouldn't be able to discover new stuff. Demos often suck so renting or borrowing is often the best way to get new experiences.

Regardless, like I said, fi they go with this...it wouldn't hurt me. But it would negatively effect a lot of others. In fact the used games part doesn't really bother as much as the always online and the difficulty of lending. The proposed system just cuts down the userbases. Niche games will falter because people cant take a chance on them. and in order to make up for that companies will only make even safer games. More shooters and racers because they sell.

I get that there is a problem. But I just think this method isn't too strong or misguided if that;s what they are truly targeting here.

I don't mind it either but what happens when all the support for that game is gone no severs to tell it its ok to play you officially have a coaster with some nice art work. I STILL play every console I have ever owned not all the time but I get my itch for something and have to play it. I like going back and playing old games so basically all this DRM crap is just making me have to mod a console and games when its no longer supported. It does affect you not right now but in the long run and I also support the gamers that can't go out and blow money on any game they want I would much rather have the pay for online if you bought the game used than DRM.

Modern Warfare and MW2 sold millions of copies and the devs wanted more money that they had a contract to get.... guess what? Activision THE PUBLISHER didni't follow through and the guys left. The problem isn't the devs or 2nd hand markets. It's the publishers spending too much money in needless marketing and other things and then not sharing the profits with developers.

I don't know how often this happens, but look at ensemble studios. All of their games sold millions (AoE series and Halo Wars) yet MS dismantled them.

Do devs even necessarily get a percentage of game sales or just the studio heads or what?

I'm directly blaming you for car activation fees.

Did my (small) part. I really hope Sony will somehow listen, they did a lot of things right since the PS4 announcement, now they have to go for one of the most important.

Someone explain to me why a publisher deserves any cut of a sale of my physical property?

No other existing market behaves that way. If I sell my car tomorrow VW doesn't deserve squat.

It must be intentional misdirection that these industry insiders keep responding as if we are talking about digital sales. This is about physical media. Full. Stop.

Pretty cool, we could do the same with your car, your keyz EVERYTHING mouhahahah... ! :D

Canada-GAF here, I sent a shoutout to everyone on my facebook to encourage the move via twitter.

I'll create my own Twitter account later tonight when I'll be back from work to add some support.

Do we know if this is picking up steam in Japan? I feel like a lot of outcry from Sony's home turf would help out, especially given how lively the used market is over there.

The argument of Cliffyb is so weak and idiotic.
Developers deserve more money, so in order to get them, instead of making a creative, attractive program they have to take it from something that they put zero effort in, by stripping the consumer off the right of sharing its game with whoever he wants, and taking my revenue from a used sale (which most of the times goes to finance a new game purchase). And then, we are the self entitled bastards?

This is shit. I share books with friends all the time, as well as movies, comics, or whatever else.

This, also, will make the market penetration in Latin America even slower. When a game costs 120 Dollars, and your internet is shit, you don't want this DRM bullshit in your console.
Piracy is wrong, but if publishers don't give a shit about people in Latin America, why would they?

I thought this dude was here for the gamers.....but he is here to make a "stand" Cant blame him, he is rich but want to be even richer

That and ummm.. How many games did he make for playstation 3 again?

I wanna hear what David jaffe has to say about this DRM.

According to most EULA's, you don't own the software and you merely have the permission to use it under certain restrictions that are specified in the EULA which you have to agree with before using the product.

Also, physical media on the PC has been employing similar tactics against used games. The market of used games on the PC practically does not exist today due to these business strategies even though retail PC games are still being sold.

I am not agreeing or disagreeing here. I am just stating the law as I know it in the US.

You hit the nail on the head. They don't deserve anything from a used-game sale.

Just got back from Wembley stadium and done my bit again, will do it again tomorrow.

Also tweeted GoFreaks letter to Playstation and the pubs.

USA GAF, a beachhead has been established, hold your ground until reinforcements can arrive. ETA, 10 hours.

I've noticed a lot of gamers doing the same thing. It's absurd.

If all this DRM shit goes down as it's looking to at the moment, they will never see a single cent from me again. The only way they'll see me playing their games is when their consoles get the hell hacked out of them, and I will go full pirate on their asses. I won't be buying the consoles in its first year or when they're at their highest price (when the companies make their better returns), I will wait until it's half the introduction price and again, until it's a pirate's paradise.

Quoting for posterity. You're scum.

Are you SURE that's a good thing to admit publicly? :p

Customers have only themselves to blame if they support shit like this. I hope all the people worried about platform owners blocking used games and extensive DRM usage bought a Wii U!

I didn't, and I don't plan to. The WiiU has nothing of interest to me and it won't be able to run the next gen PS4/XBone games that I want.

Sourcel

"Used games only account for $1.59 billion in revenue, which means that a year's-worth of the used game market barely makes up for a fraction of what Activision or Electronic Arts make in a single quarter. The used game market has also dropped by 17.1% in 2012 compared to what it was in 2011. Despite publishers complaining about used games cannibalizing new game sales, the used game market is actually shrinking. "

"DLC accounted for $2.22 billion in 2012, up 33.9% over the previous year. Subscriptions stayed steady at $1.05 billion, up 12.9%"

Now wouldn't it be better to stop fighting a ghost in used games and focus on digital content? You cut used games and I promise you they lose DLC sales.

Honestly, I am very very glad that we're only 2 weeks away from E3 instead of 2+ months. This way, we'll find out quickly enough exactly what will happen with this.

Yosp hasn't commented on it at all, I wonder what he thinks about all this hmm..
