What if Sony chooses to go DRM after all of this? Will they get even greater backlash than Microsoft did?

They shouldn't. If it was indeed Publishers pressure that forced/convinced/persuaded Microsoft into implementing the online checks, then it will be wise to listen to the corporations publishing your games instead of the thousands of fans complaning. Sony is not Nintendo, their ip's aren't strong enough to save them.

BBC personalities/shows? Watchdog? Click? Technology News? The BBC is public funded and as such cannot be moneyhatted by any companies. They have to be impartial, and the used game situation will be HUGE news in the UK once the general public find out the implications.
