Your Realistic Expectations for Final Fantasy Versus XIII (FFXV) E3 Showing

What I believe that we can realistically expect:
- The game will be renamed to Final Fantasy XV
- It will be a cross-gen game for the PS3 and PS4 (hopefully its next-gen..)
- The trailer shown will be similar to the 2011 trailer, we'll get a CG portion, story and gameplay (hopefully the gameplay that they show highlights exploration)
- The game will have a general 2014 launch window
I'm hoping that its next-gen only, but I'm having my doubts about that.

Should be Cross-Gen, at least. The advantage that PS4 should offer is 1080/60p but graphics should be mostly same around the board.
So we will have a cross-gen title on PS3/PS4
PS3 = 720/30p
PS4 = 1080/60p
That's all i need. But i wouldn't mind it being on PS4 only although i don't think graphics will be praised on PS4 unless they magically started using Agni's Philosphy.

- Expectation: Rebranded as FFXV, a slightly more substantial yet still annoyingly ambiguous trailer.
- Hope: Rebranded as Final Fantasy Versus, a meaty and satisfying trailer showcasing both story, gameplay and background info, release date, crossplatform for PS3/PS4.

I think the definite is = Versus is now FF15 and it's PS4 exclusive. MAYBE PS3 as well.

I'm guessing it will be cross gen (I'd be the first FF to be cross gen right?), it won't be called XIII-Versus anymore, but I'm not sure I'd bet on it being XV either. Battle system will be touted greatly, as will character models. We won't learn anymore than we know about the story, but they will promise that it's good. Please be excited. It makes no sense for them not to just tell us about this game already. It has been too long. If they want to trot it out again, they better have something good. Other wise, just throw a keyblade up on the screen and let the 7 year wait for that game begin.

Honestly, I just want this to be FF Versus and come out ASAP so we can get something completely new for XV that we haven't seen a trailer years ago for.When was the last time we had a completely new world/cast of characters in the FF franchise? 2009?
Let me pose you this question, you seem to have the idea that if Versus is renamed to XV then this other imaginary XV won't be made. That's not how game development works. Do you think this XV game will just disappear if Versus is renamed to FFXV? Of course not.
They'll just call the game XVI. Is it really that foreign of an idea.
Versus will be a new Final Fantasy. We haven't played these characters, story or in this world before. It's still new. Nothing has changed.
So I don't get this idea that if Versus is made that XV magically disappears an vice versa.
I'm torn.

I personally don't think it's going to be there. I think once again E3 will pass without little more than "please wait a little while longer" and people will get pissed

Realistic: It will be final Fantasy XV. Come out next year. It will average a 40 on metacritc. Diehard fans will blame reviewers. The rest of us will realize it had a development hell.

Sorry, but I have no expectations, realistic or unrealistic, and this is coming from a longtime fan who played his first Final Fantasy on a Famicom in Japanese without understanding a word (and loved it).

Well.. that's not really what I was saying.
I just don't want to have "Final Fantasy XV" be something that was previously revealed in what, 2006? It just feels weird to have the last generation go by and we've only really had one new mainline FF title and some formerly related ones with Agito XIII/Type-0 and Versus XIII/"XV" if that makes sense. I'm not saying some other "XV" game won't get made, but I would rather they NOT announce Versus rebranded as XV so that whatever the next main-numbered game does end up being, it's not something 'old' in the sense that it's been shown to us before under another name. I get that we haven't played Versus yet or really know all that much about the characters, but that surprise of a completely new world just wouldn't be there IMO if this ended up happening.

I get what your saying but I disagree with that idea. It seems like a trivial thing that fans will look back and say, "did it really matter?"
The benefits of renaming it Final Fantasy XV greatly outweigh the cons that could be brought forth against it. I agree that we all want something new but Versus is still a new thing.
Versus needs rebranding more than people realize. We know its being rebranded and the evidence is piling up in rebranding it as XV.
I am not saying your wrong but it will be trivial after its rebranded and after it releases. The number helps the game with sales. In return, we get a cool game that a lot of fans will clamor to and what I dub the "casual" FF fanbase. They know that a new number means a new world/characters/plot but don't keep up with the news enough to know the many differences between XIII, Agito XIII and Versus XIII.
There are people in this forum who believe that XIII and Versus XIII are in the same setting and have characters that cross over. This is why the game needs to be called XV. So there is no question about the differences between Versus and XIII. That being they have literally nothing in common.

I don't agree in the slightest and neither do the sales numbers.
Casual fans tend to buy main entries and not the "spin-off's" (even though Versus was not supposed to be considered a spin-off). As much as Versus has been talked about over the years the game being named XV would sell significantly more then anything else they could think of.

I don't really see why they'd need to strip the FNC stuff out of the game if they rebranded the game lie some of you are saying. FF Type-0 managed to keep it and use it in a different and good way.
Sure the L'Cie/Fal'Cie stuff will be a little weird, but eh.
Anyway, I'm totally expecting the game to show up in some form at E3. Or rather I'm hoping it does, but I'm more confident this time than during the last years. Especially since they haven't yet said outright it won't be there, like they sometime do beforehand.

huge numbers next to names are overrated anyways. they would be wasting a huge amount of name recognition if they didn't use the Versus tagline after they've spent 6 years building it up. Final Fantasy Versus would be the name to maximize sales, remove the XIII. calling it Final Fantasy XV is just a fulfilling name for us fanboys.

Personally I hope it isn't FFXV because that would mean that there would pretty much have to be another mainline Final Fantasy being developed at SE--there would have to be a FFXV in the company somewhere, basically--they wouldn't start a console generation without one.
I fear if Versus becomes FFXV that means they may not have another new mainline FF in development at the time and XVersus is being used to bridge that gap (and... oh god... give Toriyama the time he needs to make FFXVI).
Maybe I'm being too paranoid, but I don't know about you; I'd take two new FFs over one.
I also have personally no love for Kingdom Hearts's gameplay, but I realize most fans don't seem to share this opinion.

It's always been an action RPG dude. It's being made by the KH team. And SE doesn't make big FF titles (traditional) turn based anymore.

It was Nomura plan all along. He is probably the one that incited Wada and Kitase to let Toriyama direct XIII, so that would happen. And, as a plot twist, Nomura is actually Xehanort and that was also part of his plan to get the X-Blade.
Kingdom Hearts III final boss is Lightning confirmed.
That makes me sad, I hated FF12 for this reason
