Wow. No one is a abandoning the message. No one is advocating dropping the hashtags. If anything, it's expanding the conversation to everyone in the industry who has a say in policy, not just those who implement it. Keep the message focused, positive, and clear. Again, it's more divisive and 'diluting' to keep arguing the point than to encourage and embrace the idea.
I wasn't arguing against that, I was talking about

We should be focusing on MS much more than Sony, but alas...console/brand allegiance BS seems to be getting in the way.
This guy.

It's insane NBC picked up on this, begs the question whether any similar outlets will also.

Oh and that kotaku article was very good, props to Schreier there. Glad it's being supported so well.

I still can't quite comprehend how big this has got, it boggles my mind that we've gotten reasonably successful (Sony heard us, that's a success in my eyes).

Great. Hope it stays steady.

We got NBC. Well done guys. I think we're almost there, another big outlet like the BBC or Guardian and we can take the campaign to the next level. The reach has increased today and that is very impressive.

The more mainstream sites we can get involved the more pressure there will be on Sony to do the right thing.

This guy.

In direct reference to MS being the only ones to have actually announced their plans. You usually fight back against the ones who have actually announced something rather than those who haven't. Please don't attempt to take my post out of context to make your point. It's juvenile.

For what it's worth, I've tweeted both and will continue to do so.

Now I'm torn. On one side we want as much support and involvement from people as possible. On the other side this was mainly targeted at Sony, because they're on the leveler now. The whole move is now centered at Sony and the whole media coverage is about Sony. MS' position was more or less clear on this stuff.

For maximum effectiveness the effort must continue to be directed to and focused on Sony.
1) This issue provides a palatable and intellectual competitive distinction that Sony has never had the benefit to nurture.

2) The social re-verb has crossed multiple sectors outside of gaming and Sony is now presented with an opportunity to be a beacon
Of consumer activism (..for the people, persuaded by the people) : even if PS3 level DRM remains. Its a win for the brand. Sony knows this (my highly intelligent assessment)

3) MS will be forced to follow suit on used game management outside of one to one mandatory console installs (while I don't like it, MS has no other choice if they maintain their game install option).

In short, You will not scratch the surface of a mountain with a dull pen... let's be a righteous laser.

We may not move the mountain, but we will leave a mark.

Please forgive the typos, I sent this from my phone in the car.

Okay. That guy. He will tweet about Microsoft only and everyone else will tweet about Sony or Sony+Microsoft. Doesn't change a thing.
The problem is that we had him going for MS-centric, some others going for Sony-only, and then others yet advocating Sony-centric or Sony-MS equal. That's a whole lotta confusion, and all over a thread title change. As I said before, I'm fine with the title change, we just can't let up on pressuring Sony. I'm all for MS.

EDIT:

I quoted your entire post and the conversation hasn't really changed direction, so it was perfectly in context. I'm not calling you out as a bad guy though, just there's a lot of confusion going about now. Didn't mean to come off as aggressive.

This kind of stuff is awesome and one of the reasons I wanted to join NeoGAF. I think it's great to fight for what is important to you, even if other people think it's silly.

I saw the NBC report on Twitter. Well done!

There's something to be said about being proactive and pre-emptive. Oftentimes, if you wait for an announcement, it's too late. Both deserve to get tweeted.

Dear PlayStation,
c.c. Electronic Arts, Activision, Ubisoft, Capcom et al.

You might be wondering what the above hashtags really mean.

Simply put, they are requesting you to keep things on PS4 as they are on PS3, when it comes to physical disc rights and second hand discs.

Microsoft has ignited a firestorm in announcing a strategy for Xbox One that would see consumers unable to lend a disc to friends, unable to privately sell or swap a disc, and only able to trade discs at pre-approved retail.

We believe this is a big mistake, and we’d like you not to share in it.

This is our Message - and we shouldn't temper with it because it was this message we got the attention of the media with.

Miles, you haven't got the context of the campaign. It is in response to Sony supposedly reconsidering their position and being in listening mode. It is also about getting answers from them because so far it has all been too vague.

We have the answers from MS, we don't like them. However, there is no information that they are looking to change direction from what has been announced, hence no campaign. The thread on the subject just disappeared because there seems to be little appetite in changing their minds when they seem so set on that direction. If one of our MS related insiders came to this thread and posted that MS are looking at reconsidering their position because of the backlash after their reveal and repeated fumbles then I'm sure there would be a thread just as active as this one. There hasn't though. No info, nothing on MS reconsidering. So a lot of people just figure, what's the point. At least with Sony we have some knowledge that they are thinking twice and yesterday we got a lot of tacit approval from SCE employees and bigwigs like Shahid are egging us on.

So that's why we're aimed at Sony. It's nothing to do with console wars so get that shit out of this thread and get off your high horse.

Talking to one of the CNN tech guys on Twitter about this. He said:

"well said, sir. talking over options with editors right now. stay tuned."

Does anyone here actually think people would boycott publishers though? How large of an effect would that have? As an example, I think COD will sell a ton of copies even if Activision sent pieces of horse shit out inside everycase.

My concerns are that the average gaming consumer isn't as knowledgeable as we few on GAF.

The really casual consumers probably won't care much about any DRM being in place. They'll continue to play Madden, FIFA and CoD and be happy. But that's not who Sony said that they're targeting initially with the PS4. They said quite specifically that they're targeting the core gamer. As Tretton said, that type of gamer that "eats, sleeps and drinks" gaming. If that's the case, then there is a real chance that the core gamer can hold out or simply go somewhere else.

Easy enough.

Yeah I saw this on Reddit too, it's still missing the point here. Like m0dus said - waiting until the console comes out and then not buying it isn't enough. The decisions don't seem to be fully made yet, especially on Sony's end, so the gaming community voicing a strong, unified opinion on the matter does nothing but good. This picture's basically saying "bend over and take it."

Awesome, nice job. Hope something comes of it.

If it gets onto CNN then it's all set for an explosion into mainstream media. :D

I think it needs to be noted how respectful, in general, this campaign has been.

Indeed, it has been a positive campaign from the start. I think it's down to the OP who said don't level threats at them, just inform them about not wanting DRM politely. It really helped.

That said if all else fails people should really consider avoiding buying such anti-consumerist products.

It's sad that NBC have picked this up, but IGN hasn't.

It goes to show that IGN are deeply in bed with publishers IMO.

It's not at all surprising if you've listened to Podcast Beyond. In their last podcast they defended the DRM. Colin has done it on several occasions and has even tried to support his stance by bringing up some guy on twitter that only buys used games.

Again, as has been said earlier: "voting with your wallet" is reactive not proactive. If you want to affect policy, it's best to do so before it is fully implemented. Remember, as was said before, a lot of these decisions are not made in a vacuum. A lot of them are based upon the influence of publishers and other manufacturers alike. If you let your voice be heard before the business model is put into play and has gone past the point of no return, you stand a greater chance of effecting long-lasting change.
Truth.

Once the plans are in motion it becomes harder and harder to make changes. Once revenue sharing plans are signed for retailers there is no turning back.

Gamers are stakeholders too. It's time to let our voices be heard. This is the time to let these companies know what is important to us.

I've been really busy all today, just home from work. Can someone recap the last 40 pages lol?

All I know now is a tumblr and ps4nodrm website was started. How has twitter been going?
