Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | May 2013 | Lovecraftian Wasteland

Man, I just cannot finish a game of Rymdkapsel. It starts off so nice and relaxing, but the latter waves just get too much. I was down to one minion and already had the next wave warning beep at me before that minion had even moved to a different room. D:

It is still great, though. Late game is just balls hard.

Yes and no. It's a historical demon hunting game, i.e. it'll feature classical Japanese art, weapons, armor, demons, etc. The main thing that this game has going for it is that it's easily a showpiece for the Vita's graphical prowess. It looks awesome IMO.

Also, my fellow Vita-gaffers this is a long post so I'm sorry. I'm looking at getting Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed, Dynasty Warriors Next and Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus physically - soon.

Which one should I get first, Sonic, Senran Kagura or Dynasty Warriors? I'm a pretty big fan of Sonic and DW, but I'm mostly wanting Senran Kagura for it being boobs+musou. I really love Sonic though - lifelong fan. The main thing is I want to get these before the big releases come later this year.

Also I'm going to try getting online more often to slug through Ragnarok because I want to platinum that before Ace hits this fall, so if anyone is looking for a partner, PM me. I also need to pick up the pace and blast through Persona 4.

The Vita's summer/fall/holiday lineup is starting to look overwhelming though, I'll be getting: Muramasa Rebirth, Ys Celceta, KZ: Mercenary, Tearaway, Dragon's Crown, Rayman Legends, Valhalla Knights 3, Jak & Daxter Collection, Batman: Arkham Origins and Toukiden. I might end up nixing the last three, but the ones before that are must-haves IMO.
 
^ Good, I'm open to it if reviews mention this version sorted out the biggest problems people complained of.

@Schobeleth, Sonic Racing is packed with content. Really cool designs. Framerate is mostly very good and you will get used to it/accept the slight dips when you realise it's not perfect on most other platforms either.

Visuals look decent. It's not crazily impressive but some levels can look stunning due to the colours they use and some decent shaders/interesting designs. Most of the framerate dipping is when there is water about. Otherwise there are a couple levels with troubled sections for a second or two.

I was really looking forward to it and I was more whiney than others when it first came out as I was hoping for a perfect port with rock steady visuals and mindblowing graphics. I got it at release. I play it a lot even now and I'm always having a good time with it.

I can't always find people to play with but usually I do.

I can't tell you what game to get first but I have no problem recommending Sonic Racing to non-fans let alone people interested in it. It's a very good effort and you rarely get as much content and replay value from karting games these days.

Go for it :)

I don't know about the others, but dinasty warriors next story mode alone is almost 30 hours long, then there's the conquest mode that is really funny and very replayable thanks to unlockables.
Being the oldest one dwn should be the cheapest.

Thanks man, I played the demo and LOVED it. I really want to get it, especially considering I love racers and Sonic. I'm just so torn, I want the other two games as well, especially considering I don't have a musou type game on Vita yet. I think I'm probably going to splurge and get them all soon, but I'm probably going to get Sonic first.

Yeah I really want a musou game on Vita, I'm definitely going to get DW before Senran Kagura, mostly because of the import price.

Now I just need to chug through my backlog @_@ I really need to beat P4G and work towards the platinum for RO.
 
Dynasty Warriors Next is amazing. Even with some forced touch screen stuff and the mini games not being that fun, the core gameplay and the massive replayability means it's worth it. I think I paid like $20 for it used and it is fantastic.
 
I've took the plundge and bought Totori on the PSN. It's my first real Atelier game (the five minutes I spent with the GBC versions years ago doesn't count), game is awesome !

As much as I love SK, SV was pretty light on the musou-side : pretty straightforward levels, no side-quest/hidden goals to unlock, rarely more than 20+ characters on screen, and the mobs (or most of them anyway - those danm pandas) are damn easy in normal mode.

If you are looking for a purely Musou experience, you may end up disappointed.
SK is pretty much its own experience (fun brawler with boobs, a good plot and awesome characters).

No problem! Grab what you want the most now right, Sonic isn't going anywhere but don't forget to grab him eventually :) It's a good game to have digitally to fire up every now and then for some races.

Also I should mention:
the game's hard mode is hard and the very hard is very hard. I think there's another difficulty level as well. That helps with re-playability but can be frustrating.
Upgradable characters exist too (changing vehicle stats through leveling up and selecting the different unlockable configuration).
 
just popping in to recommend project diva f to Vita owners here. After squeezing as much life as I could out of DJMAX Technika Tune I was hungry for another rhythm game, and although it is quite different I have really been enjoying Diva f. The price to import was rather high, but it was worth it and the game is pretty language independent / import friendly.
 
I expected Rayman Legends to appear on the Vita, but I'll definitely be picking it up. I loved Origins, and played the hell out of it on the Vita. It looked amazing on that OLED, and no doubt this one will too.

Shame to hear that about the game. I figured it would probably not compare to DW Next, but I still want to get it because lets face it - I'm a huge fan of fanservice/boobs ;)

Yeah I think Sonic is my next most wanted game, glad to hear it has a challenging end game. I really want to get a few of these last *must-have* purchases on Vita before the avalanche comes later this year.
 
I sense almost a bit of a contradiction when it comes to the Vita price cut speculation in regards to E3.

From what we're hearing and expecting, it looks like E3 this year will have some really nice Vita software designed specifically to entice gamers to pick up the system, since the biggest complaint people have about the machine outside of overpriced memory cards, is software.

So, as a platform holder, if I'm about to announce a lot of top tier titles, why would I then drop the price of the console? If the software is as enticing at it is, I'd expect them to sell the system, even at its current price.

Personally, I'm not expecting a price cut announced at E3. I can see that being something announced for later in the year. Don't get me wrong, I think it does need a price cut, but I'm not so sure that Sony will announce it at E3. I think they're going to wait and see what the new game announcements will do for current Vita sales, then adjust accordingly.

I'm not ruling out a price cut by the end of this calendar year, however, just not at E3.

My bet is that they will maintain the price, then run some unofficial price cuts through the year so they seem like a better deal. Price cut will be here next year.
 
I saw that the first batch of DLC for Soul Sacrifice is supposed to be available today...

Any ETA on when that will be?

EDIT: Downloaded the update, but don't see anything in the Store as yet...

Adhoc is wifi isn't it as well? It's not super clear but it's still quite promising actually.

But why would it be limited to the country you're in... for the lag? Seems a bit too weird a limitation.

WiFi and Ad Hoc are two different technologies. Ad Hoc is a technology that requires no routers or internet connection. But you're right that it just seems odd how they're phrasing. They never said "online" which I wish they would have.

In the article it also says "Players can use two consoles in local multiplayer, and play all the levels in the game in co-op mode." Is that talking about traditional co-op, or they Murphy co-op they mentioned later in the article? Who knows. Seems there's a bit of confusion there.


Oh, also, Blazblue has been up for free on Plus (US) for awhile for anybody who didn't know. I'm kinda disappointed that I could not find 3.3GB of free space on any of my memory cards and couldn't make room, so I can't download it. :( Why did the file size have to be so huge?!

No, WiFi is a wireless networking standard. Ad Hoc is networking mode within that standard that enables your WiFi device to do peer to peer connections without a router. The regular mode is called Infrastructure, which you commonly see used in Japan to describe full online play on portables.

Definitely buying Atelier Meruru. I'm still not sure about Toukiden (didn't like the first demo much), but I'd rather buy that than Ragnarok Odyssey Ace. The more I think about it, the less I like RO. :/

Did u try the unpatch demo? There is a significant improvement for the patch demo, maybe you should give it a try? Or maybe wait for the 2nd demo which coming out next month. was I personally hooked to Toukiden, after I try the patch demo.
 
BlazBlue reminds me again why I never play fighting games, as I continue my streak of being unable to complete a fighting game tutorial. :x

Nope, I didn't play the patched demo. Hopefully the second demo will have online MP like the Soul Sacrifice demo did.
 
Anyone who does not have a Vita should seriously check Craigslist, you can find one there most of the time for as low as 160 with memory card and a few extras.
