UK Xbox One pre-orders ahead of PS4, although PS4 enjoys post Xbox spike

MCV has received word from retail sources that pre-orders for the Xbox One are tracking ahead of PS4 in many UK stores.

In fact, one told us that in the 24 hours after Xbox One’s reveal last week the total number of pre-orders it received for Microsoft’s machine outstripped the total number of PS4 pre-orders it had accrued since Sony’s reveal in February.

There is some good news for Sony – the same sources revealed a significant increase in PS4 pre-orders in the day following the Xbox One reveal.

The consensus is that many gamers were waiting until they’d had a look at both machines before making their buying decision.

The numbers may well some surprise some online onlookers who have seemed to delight in revelling in the PR mess Microsoft has created itself since last week’s reveal.

But they should also serve as a reminder that the angry internet masses are often not representative of the wider buying public.

More specifically, "the angry internet masses" may not be representative of the wider UK buying public.

Personally, I could totally see XB1 taking the US and UK and PS4 everywhere else.
 
Those UKers are going to be pissed once they find out MS didn't make the box for them.

I wonder how many people will be disappointed when they buy it and find out a lot of features are US only or "US first, coming to UK/rest of the world later" (like the TV stuff)
 
This doesn't surprise me, the 360 caught on a lot more here than it did in the rest of Europe, and most people don't know half of what we know.

MCV of course being the trustworthy news source that reported the WiiU was "sold out at retail" from their obviously trustworthy sources.

Parfitt's spin on "angry internet mobs" is of course at this point more legendary than any other game jurnalist.

Well the UK is looking like a very weak market for games right now so maybe Sony is better off.
 
Among the core, I can't see XB1 winning anywhere.


Tho, I think price + release date are the biggest deciding points as starters.
 
Yeah, let's wait for more info and pricing. This is probably based on a bit of survey data from a 20-30 retail locations btw. There is no single pre-order tracking system in this country that companies can subscribe to.
 
I sort of get it. PS4 announcement was around the PS4 whereas the Xbone conference was like, "Here it is, now some Games/TV/Dog/NFL."

PS4 conference as enchanting as it was to gaming fans said fuck all to people who weren't watching the conference live.
 
I don't think any of the internet outrage over XBOXOne's DRM or privacy concerns has penetrated anywhere other than enthusiasts sites.

E3 will be the event that will determine how well these consoles will be received whenever they launch. If MS has a great E3 gaming lineup (both with number of games and quality of games), gamers will flock. Regardless of how much enthusiast sites shriek. Same with Sony.

Many enthusiasts have already chosen sides. Most people haven't. The mainstream will go to the console that seems to have the most features + fun games at a good price.

E3 will reveal.

That's assuming they are preordering because they want those features, rather than they just want the next Xbox.

I have £600 set aside for a next gen console.

I'll be preordeing A PS4 or Xbox One after Sony's show on Tuesday and we begin to see the various packages that shops and websites will be putting together for these consoles.

I hope there both bringing dat A game to E3.

Why? Whats not in it for us in the UK? they led with Fifa, which is massive, if they integrate the TV with Sky sports or through Virgins cable box that will be very useful also. Nothing in the reveal seemed bad for UK gamers besides the DRM issues, which Sony sooner or later need to own up to also.
 
Regardless of this article, given the sometimes confusing messages we've had so far on DRM/always on and so on, I hope buyers are aware how things will affect them before buying.

And that's in respect to both the XB1 and PS4 (although I'm hoping the former eases off and the latter matches the PS3's MO).
 
Does not shock me. People are gonna want this thing. It just seems so high tech and the TV stuff is compelling.

People dont realize the TV stuff+Kinect might well be worth like, 50% more buyers over a just games only console.

I think it also helps a LOT they actually have a picture of the case to put on websites and the like. Makes it so much more tangible. PS4 will get that boost soon obviously, but as of now it feels like a real thing vs a concept.
 
The Xbox One got a 5 star/5 star 'review' last weekend in the Mail on Sunday supplement in the UK. I don't buy that paper, but a lot of other people do. Joe Public has been swayed.
 
Not that this isn't plausible, but didn't MCVUK spread the news that wiiu was sold out everywhere, when you could just walk in and find it in lots of places? I remember gaffers reporting from all over, but I being in London saw the same thing occurring in the number of stores I saw.

I suppose their retail sources leave a lot to be desired.

This is pointless really until after E3, although I wouldn't be surprised if we see a similar situation where Xbox wins in the US and the UK, PS4 pretty much everywhere else.

MS have to announce their policies at some point, who knows whether that will have an effect on preorders.

I would also imagine that CoD Ghosts advert that was doing the rounds have pushed a lot of people towards pre ordering seeing as it gives the impression that the next gen version is only coming to Xbox One.

So true. And I think thats the case in North America as well. Everyone, who aren't the types to roam forums like GAF or reddit, seems to be relatively excited about the Xbox One. When they are asked about the lack of games-- they'll either say its a commodity (most games are on both) or say they know the good games will come.

And I'm sure there's a level of people who are even further removed from the announcement who don't really know much about the Xbox One or PS4 other than the fact that they'll have to buy one of them for their kids this Christmas.

Reality and living in this country and seeing them still on store shelves and available on Amazon and other sites proved that t wasn't the case.

It was bizarre misreporting.
 
What does it really mean though ?

I have both systems pre ordered , I pre ordered them the day after they were announced to secure a place on the list....post E3 (and pricing etc whenever it comes) I will likely drop one.
 
Some reason people want to see the box before pre-ordering plus you can order a PS4 no idea you could

that being said do most of mainstream public know about the DRM and online mess, most people I know who watched the conference had no idea about the interviews after revealing all the details.

A Lot of those people who pre-ordered it have NOT seen the stream nor do they know the used games thing, they are probably the fifa buying chavs of the uk LOL

P.s im not saying if you buy fifa your a chav, im talking aout the mass public who have no clue about games who just buy fifa every year like drones and whatever else is popular and have no clue about the rest of the market

They likely only buy

Fifa EVERY year without fail
Same for Call of duty without fail
Other variations of fifa cos its cool innit? World cup, street, road to euro etc
And whatevers number one in tescos on a given week
