I plan on doing a diet that simply involves not eating.

Before I start, yes it's a bad idea. I get that.

I currently weigh 220lbs. The easiest and best way for my to lose this weight would be simply to diet and exercise. I'm not doing that. I'm going to simply stop eating.

Most days I will not eat but in order to stay alive, some food needs to be consumed. These will be limited to items such as sandwiches or cereal and only once a day at maximum. Liquids and any drinks have no effect on this test. I will still drink tea and will still occasionally buy a can of Coke or similar.

Other notes:

  • I do smoke
  • I do work full time
  • I can't cook but do eat a worrying amount of take-away.

I also started a blog, just to get my progress down on paper. I also honestly believe no one will care but it's more fun with people pretending they're interested. :)

You're going to be tired, miserable, irritable and prone to sickness.

Good luck!

It didn't work for me, although I didn't do it voluntarily, I did it because I was poor.

I think at some point your body just starts retaining EVERYTHING, including fat, because it sees you are starving and doesn't want you to die. I'm not a scientist but I certainly didn't lose weight on only one (crappy, insufficient) meal a day.

You sound like you might be ignorant to dieting.

Not a fan of Atkins, but if your only concerned about losing weight really fast it's a pretty decent way of doing it.

It'll work, but it's not really healthy. And what will you do when you reach your ideal weight? Start your old eating habits again? What's the point? Go for a diet that you can keep up.

Is this an experiment or are you just trying to lose weight?

It'd be a cool experiment if you're willing to risk your health. If it's the latter, please just go low carb like 90% of people.

Sounds pretty nebulous. Why not just reduce your caloric intake and eat healthy. Exercise is really important regardless of your weight.

Don't do it, man. Reconsider your methods, and check out the fitness thread in GAF.

Brilliant. I want this photoshopped onto a tombstone. What a dumb idea OP, the human body doesn't work like that.

Edit: Fitness GAF could confirm the legitimacy of this but I'm pretty sure it would be faster to lose weight by reducing intake and exercise. I'm not sure the rate you passively burn through fat stores from a huge reduction in eating but it doesn't seem like it would be noticeable for a very long time.

the funny part is that you're going to throw coca-cola into that ''diet''

also if you don't eat anything your muscles will most likely melt first, enjoy being a blob of fat

So you're basically doing intermittent fasting...

Consider eating less rather than nothing

Instead:
- Eat steamed vegetables a whole bunch
- Eat fresh fruit a whole bunch
- Don't eat sandwiches or cereal
- Limit your starches but when you do have em, make em fun and not over the top
- Don't feel pressure to learn how to cook - but steam stuff and cut stuff more
- That can of Coke wants you to die

I used to weigh 290 pounds and now I weight 210. I still eat lots of stuff I like, I'm just tactical about it.

It will work, but what you will do is damage your ability to lose weight by more sensible means in the future. When you start a starvation type diet, your body starts to guard itself against the sudden interruption of nutrition, so your metabolism begins slowing down, in an attempt to conserve any caloric intake for the future...

Your body can only get something like 40% of it's energy from fat reserves, you still need sufficient food to survive or your body just won't work right (Constant tiredness, clouded thoughts, zero energy).

*facepalm

You'll gain it back when you start eating normally and it looks like what you're planning to do is gonna be leave you nutritionally deficient. But it's your life.

Weight loss is about changing your habits, not quick fixes that involve yo yo dieting.

Jesus, just learn to cook healthy food(and to cook in general) and you'll be fine.

Stop smoking before you stop eating. And learn to cook. What you're planning on doing is not called a diet.

My mom is on some dumbshit fasting diet, too. We pretty much all mock her.

Fuck the haters. I'm looking forward to following your progress.

Also, can I have some of your things?

Your body's going to go into starvation mode and your weight loss will plateau fast. But probably not before you break down and eat three pizzas.

"and will still buy an occasional can of Coke or similar"

This plan sounds terrible. Not only are you limiting yourself to only a few food groups, but you're not exercising and you're still consuming bad things such as soda.
