One thing I'm interested to see would be a Dreamhack-esque thing for fighting games in North America, or really games that rely on offline multiplayer in general. Just a big 4-5 day gaming festival and BYOCs all around (basically move all the salty suites into one room), and have a big tournament there but allocate like 3~hours of the day to that instead of have stuff running non-stop. Wouldn't be particularly interesting for stream viewers but I think it might help the community in ways that Evo can't.

Chris G giving Sanford false hope. Picks E.Ryu for the first 4 games and then switches to Sakura and steam rolls Sanford.
Why the fuck is Sanford getting steam rolled in his one and only game?

Dude went on a tirade about how the East Coast is lazy in letting one guy body them free and take their rent money. Now he's getting bodied by ChrisG in AE with Chris placing higher than him in majors yet we haven't heard a peep from Sanford.

Just watched Live On Three segment.

- Agree with Chris G about the metagame
- BS on Chris G not wanting to go to EVO. Fork over your sponsorship homie, or else your going to EVO.
- You hate one man so bad that you suddenly don't like "where EVO is going?" C'mon son. Sounds like money is an issue while being sponsored by AGE.
- EVO not doing anything to help the community or get paid? You mean those payouts, those sponsoring of events across the world, those INCREASING PAYOUTS, acclimating sponsors to the FGC? none of that shit matters?
- Chris G with a whole lot of problems and a whole lot of non-answers, also doesn't understand how business works "SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE" "SOMEONE HAS TO STEP UP" etc.
- Chris G worried that Marvel will die if he wins EVO. Saying people stop coming to tournies because he will be there and win. That is really sad. Chris G about to kill Marvel like he killed Marvel? I'm not even sure if this is a legitimate concern that is exaggerated or not. I wonder the magnitude of a negative impact it will have if he does have EVO, or at all. I really can't call it.
- "Damn this community in it's complainers" - Chris G after complaining for half an hour and not really suggesting anything constructive
- Your closing remarks are "I think this interview was horrible?' GTFO. You talk of making a scene better and all you do is be a dipshit when someone gives you a platform to speak your concerns?
- FChamp handles himself very well.
- Kinda appreciate the outsider looking in perspective they give, where they probe and go "uhh is there any substance to this nonsense going on?"

Chris G should try to kill Marvel. The greatest accomplishment any FG player can achieve is killing a game. Not even Justin could do that in Marvel 2 era.

It was interesting and kind of goes back to the discussion of many days past. From what they are saying, the money in esports is drying up too, or at least they are reaching the limits of what the hardware manufacturers can provide.

Besides more people, what they really have that is different is the support of the publishers themselves this is because their games continue to make them money after release.

Started really putting time into GG and I'm feeling it so much.

Combos are actually hype in this game.
You feel it immediately when you can pull off a nice 10 hit combo that knocks off 45% of your opponent's health bar. Bonus points if it has great screen carry and the links aren't shitting up the game constantly.

BB would be so much better if the damage were upped some and combos were just a bit shorter.
DJ Huoshen dropping truth bombs:
I wonder if games can count as content...

Keits and Iron Galaxy are doing their thing with Divekick and SG would have had a MUCH smoother year had mistakes from the past not gotten Autumn games all tangled up. Maybe that'd be a nice start?

Yeah, I kinda hate how he talks but the guy is cool.

eSports has not reached a sustainable state yet. Still bleeding money unless the publishers get involved. And if the publishers move on to something new or their game begins declining (inevitably), what then? You need those outside sponsors to buy in. FGC needs that, and eSports needs that for foreseeable sustainability. FGC has had slow growth but it's been constant growth and it's been this way for decades.

Just started hanging around for the SweetJohnnyCage segment and he totally gets it. There's some perspective from someone with knowledge. He makes a lot a good points about sponsorships.

I also liked how FChamp came on and said hey "winning EVO changed my life" because it really did. Dude got a boost in his salary and has made his own life sustainable by doing so, and just exposed Chris G some more as having money issues that FChamp doesn't have. The ball is in AGE's court now. How will they respond?

It was quite noticeable how much more knowledge he had...and also quite reassuring.

Yup. Felt a bit better when FChamp denounced Chris G as being a voice of the community, and even better when SweetJohnnyCage came on acting like an adult should because it was almost looking like the perception of the FGC being relayed was juvenile there.

The look on Slasher and DJ Wheat's fact after Chris G got off of Skype pretty much sums it up. What the fuck did I just endure?

At least I got 3-4 Classic Battle Mode runs done in Injustice in that time.

I should have known.

I watched this too.

I'm a huge fan of ChrisG but damn... I don't think he even understands what he's upset about. He certainly can't vocalize it. He was going in circles and making no sense. They he was super rude to those guys. I have to give them kudos for being so cool and professional.

I also thought that ECTs sweet johnny cage was spot on about PC game tournaments have more options for sponsors because there is simply more to sell. Never thought of that and it was a great point that explains a lot imo about why the prizes aren't as big.

edit: the whole not going to EVO and his entire tirade on the subject was pretty embarrassing too. Bullshit that he doesn't care and Bullshit that it doesn't mean anything.

The inability of the FGC to monetize itself is indeed the biggest problem it has with expansion.

M:TG now has multiple tournament series run by both the game's producer AND by independent stores and websites, and that's due to the game's ability to monetize in lots of ways- from card sales, to selling content, to accessories, etc.

Next gen fightsticks:
Tournament Edition X Skylanders.
Buy a figurine, put it in your arcade stick, and it uses NFC to change the artwork and color of the LED lights built into each button. Also possibly sound effects haha.

This is why MadCatz and MarkMan are so very, very important to the FGC's future- they can actively monetize the game once people have already bought the games.

What is selling content?

The problem also lies in Fighting game developers not actively getting money from the game outside of game sales. IF SFIV had something like Dota 2's compendium for Evo, you better believe money would be rolling in. However, there is no real infrastructure in place for money to be made. Whoever strikes gold first next gen will be the ones paving the way.

Hell, maybe no one even tries. That would be a grim future for Fighting games.

What is selling content?

Starcity Games Premium Content in the form of Strategy Articles, Videos, Fiance (how to buy/sell Magic cards), etc. all from Pros. Also, big TOs like Channel Fireball and Starcity Games actually get to sell Magic cards (and related accessories) themselves so they get a cut. If fighting game TOs could actually sell fighting games themselves, I'm sure the the extra money they earned to be put towards prize pools, production, etc.

Oh, video content. Content is such an ambiguous term, I thought you meant some part of the game.
Oh, no, should have clarified, given the differing mediums. They have paywall'd videos and articles. The problem in the FGC is "who's the market for buying paywall'd content?"

The problem also lies in Fighting game developers not actively getting money from the game outside of game sales.
Correct. They need more ways to generate post-release revenue. (I think that customization DLC and regularly scheduled SC2-style expansions are the way to go with this.)

I think a 3D fighter could strike gold with a DOTA-type customization model, provided gameplay remained "pure and honest".

VF is probably in the best position to do this of all the fighters.

It's important to figure out what kind of customization FG players actually want, however. People love the customization provided by MvC3's toolbox options re: assists and team composition. However, no one wants to deal with minute statistical stat-monstering, a la SFxT 2012's Gem system.
